Hello! I was signed up on the old forums, went away and they all changed! So I'm back, and listening properly this time (currently got ep 37 on!)
I'm Helen, I'm 27 and I'm mad about musicals (and hamsters, but I leave that for other forums... ) :D
Growing up an hour away from London with a father who organised group trips to the theatre I saw a lot of shows in my younger years, although that's dropped off quite a bit since moving this side of the border and having to pay for things myself (it's so much fun being a grown up responsible adult! )
I've been enjoying a resurgence of musical fascination over the last few years (it never really went away, but I got caught up with pop music for a few years, veered in folk and country, and found my way back to musicals slightly by accident) and I'm pretty sure it's not going anywhere!
I went to see Mary Poppins last Saturday (so listening to Martin Ball's first podcast right now is great, as he was my Mr Banks), I'm going to see Cabaret next week, and hopefully I'm going to Beauty and the Beast in June, which is more shows than I've been to in a while - before that, I saw Fiddler on the Roof at the Savoy a couple of years ago, so I've been deprived! Fortunately, my partner loves musicals as well, although we do have some differing tastes, but we agree on a lot of things!
Recordings-wise, my favourite composer is William Finn, and it was probably Falsettoland which sucked me back into musicals - I can't get enough of his stuff now, but have yet to meet anyone else who knows his stuff - I'm eagerly awaiting episode 71, but am not going to rush to it, as I like the continuity!
New shows to me personally have been Bad Girls (I loved the TV show, and really enjoyed the DVD of this) and Legally Blonde, which I really wanted to dislike, but ended up loving! Would like to see this when it opens in London - and possibly Sister Act too, though I'm a little wary of the changes they've made, so I'll wait for some reviews first.
As for performing - I wish! In my dreams maybe, but it'll never happen, I can (almost) accept that!
Oh whoops, I appear to have blathered! I'll shush now!
See you around! :P
