Title: Spamalot

bennyboy - December 15, 2008 01:41 PM (GMT)
Went to see Spamalot at the 5.30pm performance last Friday, full cast performed.

Having heard a quite a few bad reviews about the show I went to see it only because it's about to close. I have seen The Holy Grail before and did enjoy it as well so I thought I might as well! :D

From the start my opinions changed, the posters outside the theatre now all display "THE END IS NI!" (Which if you've seen the film you'll understand! haha) My main criticism is that for the most part it is mainly just other people doing not quite as good impressions of The Pythons in the movie. A lot of the jokes are directly lifted from the movie which can get a little bit tired as you know exactly whats about to happen and when it does there may be a little chuckle but its not as funny as when you see the film for the first time.

Sanjeev Bhaskar was fantastic as King Arthur. His voice wasnt amazingly strong, but carried well enough. The cast on whole seemed as if they were having a great time and thsi carried into the audience. It was very, very funny. The Second Act was much funnier than The First I thought so if you feel a little negitive about the show after the first act, DONT leave! It gets better! And when they find The Grail...well...if you've seen it before you'll know where it is hidden, I dont want to spoil it but well done to the person involved. He got the biggest cheer of the night! haha

That said, it is hallarious. I had such a great time and it was soooooo good. I'd say you have to go before you it closes on Jan 2nd, even if you just get cheap tickets on the day or from the tkts booth, they'll be worth it.

And if it is comming near you while its on tour, you must go and see it. True its a bit tired. True the script is sometimes a bit of a copy from the film. But it is just such a good night out and if your a fan of the movie, you wont be let down.
