Nick sat down with Sanjeev Bhaskar who is playing King Arthur in London's Spamalot, and also joins Lisa and Thos for discussions on various TV shows that have done episodes where people suddenly burst into song. Under the MusicalTalk microscope are Scrubs, Britannia High, Family Guy, The Monkees, Fame and many more...
ok i loved 'the biz' like lisa. and i can still remember the theme tune and I randomly sing it round the house from time to time...
'we all it bad enough and there's nothing we wont do
you know the skys the limit, we know its tough
but it all depends on you
set your dreams, until the day you make it happen
dreams, cos you've got to get on with those dreams
cos you know that nothing else will dddoooooo
the biz'
:P
I am interested in knowing how popular ITV1's Brittania High is. As listeners will know, I rather like it - which surpised me; in no way can it be described as sophisticated drama but it is huge fun, and I am more partial to Gary Barlow's songs than I ever thought. The characters are all "stock" but do what they can with the material and have real brio. They are also very pleasing on the eye!
Charlie Brooker, usually a very erudite and sharp commentator, excoriated the programme recently on Screenwipe on BBC4, saying that it was just a rip-off of High School Musical, but I think he has missed the point - it is actually a complete steal (or "homage") to Fame , the TV series of the 1980s merely dressed up in the styles of High School Musical.
My fellow MusicalTalk presenters, on the whole, seem to dislike it intensely, but I watch it religiously and with pleasure. I leave my brain in another room as I do so, but I can't say I don't enjoy it.
What do other listeners think?
