Title: Horse Wanted: 16 hh or better, QH preferred
stacyeblack - August 17, 2006 02:24 AM (GMT)
Looking for a mount for myself...love the minis, but it's time for a big horse. I am excruciatingly picky. Sorry.
The horse I'm looking for is 16 hh or better with a nice stocky build, but not spindly legged muscle-bound halter material. I will be riding on the road some, far enough to get to somewhere to get off the road onto a backroad or trail. Pleasure riding. I will be trailriding some. I want a nice easy trot.
Age 4 to 15 years.
Must stand for the farrier, be good for the vet, bombproof but not a deadhead, trailer well, pasture with cows, not be afraid of or aggressive towards dogs or small children or minis, be good for bathing and general grooming, and do well under saddle. I'd like to be able to go to the pasture and whistle and have my horse come to me to be haltered. I don't want a horse that requires riding down to be calm.
Must be current on all shots, no major health concerns, and must have current neg. coggins.
Mare or gelding.
Perfect conformation is not important, but no major flaws. Not going to show, I want a horse strictly for pleasure riding and loving on. Small refined head and ears are a plus, though.
Here's the kicker. Funds are somewhat limited. I'm willing to get reasonable, but I am not wealthy.

You really are picky!! :) Like me :P

There are other considerations as well...but I thought I'd stop where I did. :)
I'm not in a hurry. I don't want to get a horse off the cuff then regret it later, and I don't want to "settle" for something less than I expect, or I won't be happy with it.

hm so, he should end up right at 16, probably.
Stace, I know where a goodlooking QH is :D
I'll sell him to you cheap ;)

I have a sneaking suspicion that you'd have a fight on your hands for that one, and Steph knows where I live... guess I'll pass
He IS a good looking horse, though, Steph. :)
Steph found Giz, I'll find mine. ;)
Truth be told I don't really even have a good place to PUT a big horse right now unless I found the "perfect" one and he/she had already been pastured with minis. That would be a crap shoot and I really don't like the idea of keeping big and small together, but lots of folks, including friends of mine, do so without any trouble.
IF the perfect one comes along and IF the price is within my means, then I'd juggle around and find space.
I enjoy looking and dreaming, and hoping that just around the next corner is the one I'm looking for. It will come. I have looked at some really nice horses.
I wish Joey's sister's Arabian was a tad taller...he's gorgeous.
What is that nursery rhyme? "If wishes were horses, beggars would ride..."

I met a really nice horse this evening.
A palomino QH gelding.

True :) And you know I looked for about seven months, at a lot of horses, driving a long ways and learning patience.

This is a great philosophy. The right one is out there and it may take awhile to find it, but when you do it will be sssoooo worth the wait.

I agree. And the height was the only stopper for me. He's really a nice horse.
