Title: Goats

jennwarr84 - January 30, 2008 07:41 PM (GMT)
I need to rehome our 3 pygmies. Good homes only. They are not meat goats, they are pets. Anyone interested?

HHF - January 30, 2008 08:33 PM (GMT)
Are they nanny goats or billies? I have four Nubian goats (as pets) Are you selling them or just looking for a good home?

jennwarr84 - January 30, 2008 08:39 PM (GMT)
We are giving them away to a good home. We just don't have the time to devote to them anymore. Lady Goat is the mom. Boomer & Chloe are her babies. Boomer has been banded. They were born on July 31, 2007, so they aren't very little anymore. There are probably some old posts that has some photos of them. I will see if I can find them. I would love for them to go to another home with goats. I think they would really enjoy that, and they must all go together. I don't want them seperated.

Here are some photos

How big are they? When I got my billy goat the three nannies were pretty mean to him the first week. I want to make sure they are big enough to defend themselves. It might have been because he was an intact male, I don't know. They are very cute, do you have any recent pics? My are about 60 to 80 lbs. They are fat and I hope pregnat.

I am going to try and get some this afternoon, if the rain doesn't mess everything up. Lady Goat is probably coming up on 3 years old, and she weighs about 40 lbs. Stands maybe 24-30" tall. Boomer & Chloe probably weigh about 25-30lbs. They are quit plump. They are just now 6 months old, and probably stand about 12-20" tall. I will post the pics as soon as I can.

Jenn, they are adorable. That first pic is great, fantastic shot!!

HHF - February 3, 2008 01:54 PM (GMT)
They are very cute, do you think they would get along with my other goats? They are bigger than yours. Also where are you located?

jennwarr84 - February 3, 2008 02:25 PM (GMT)
I love that first pic also. It was so hard trying to get photos of them because they just wanted to follow me around. As far as getting along with other goats, I am not sure. Lady Goat was around many goats at he previous home. She was the one being picked on, so that's why we brought her home. Brutus (our buck) was pretty pushy with her as well. She sort of keeps her distance, but she has stood her ground a time or two. Boomer & Chloe have only been around Lady Goat. We seperated them immediately when she was going into labor. Boomer is quite spunky, I think he could stand his ground as well. Chloe is a little more meek, she's more like her mom. We are located in Pinola, MS. We are about 15-20 miles from Mendenhall and Magee. What kind of goats do you have?

Jenn

HHF - February 3, 2008 07:26 PM (GMT)
Really FAT Nubian goats, they may be pregnat too. 3 nannies and an intact billy. They are probably 60 lbs to 80 lbs and the oldest nanny goat may almost be 100 lbs. She is the fattest. Nothing at my place is under fed!

HHF - February 3, 2008 07:27 PM (GMT)
I would post pics of mine for you to see but I have forgotten how. :dunno

jennwarr84 - February 5, 2008 01:10 PM (GMT)
Wow, you have big goats. I've heard they are good natured though. Is that true?

HHF - February 5, 2008 04:57 PM (GMT)
Yeah they are like big dogs, they roam loose on the farm and I put them up at night. I teach lessons so they always have kids hanging on them, but they are really big and fat. The three nannies were pretty mean when I bought the billy home, they were head butting him for about an week or too pretty bad. That is why I was worried if I took yours, I don't know if they would be mean to them or not. I don't know if they were mean because he was a billy or what.

jennwarr84 - February 5, 2008 05:18 PM (GMT)
Do you still have the male?

HHF - February 5, 2008 08:12 PM (GMT)
yes

jennwarr84 - February 6, 2008 01:24 PM (GMT)
Do you keep him seperated or does he just run with the girls?

HHF - February 10, 2008 12:30 AM (GMT)
He is with the girls

Hi Jenn,

I don't remember where you are...south of here, right? I'm still thinking about goats and want to get some, but I'm afraid my fencing is not adequate. I have hogwire around three sides of one pasture and three strands of hot on the fourth. The other pasture is all two strand hot.

What do you think?

HHF - March 5, 2008 01:49 PM (GMT)
Stcaye,

I have four goats and they stay in a hogged wire fence at night and durning the day I let them roam in farm. The whole purpose of my goats was one I love them! and two....to help with weed control. So they have to be free to more around the farm and do their job and they have. We use to have alot of weed and cocka-burrs and know we don't have any. They have cleaned up the fence lines and everything. Anyway.....getting off subject. I think you fecning would be fine and once they know their territory and their safe zone they stay in it. If roaming free if mine get scared they run back to their pen.

Have you still not heard from Karen about the paint?

msequine - March 5, 2008 03:05 PM (GMT)
Hmmmm, you guys have my attention. How many goats per acre do you need to keep weeds at bay? What other kind of food do they require? Vaccinations?

jennwarr84 - March 5, 2008 04:02 PM (GMT)
Our goats do not pay any attention to electric fence. They go right through it. I think their coats are too thick to feel the shock. We keep them in the tiny square fence, because they are small. Before we had the babies, Brutus & Lady Goat would get out. They never left the property, but Lil Man and Cowgirl are not goat friendly. We had to fix the fence when the babies were born because we did not want them to get hurt. We even moved Brutus to a new home because we didn't need anymore suprise babies. Plus, Chloe is way to young to be around uncut males.

HHF - March 6, 2008 02:27 AM (GMT)
My roam around my farm and never leave the property. My male is also around my babies and he doesn't do anything to them, if they are to young to breed he doesn't care about them either way. They are wonderful weed control and will really clean up a property. I only feed mine a handful of horse grain to keep them coming back to their pen at night when I lock them up. I don't vacinate, but worming goats is very important. There is goat pellet wormer you put in their food every two weeks. Mine are healthy and happy. My are also due to have babies any day now. If you are really looking into getting goats for weeds, let me know. My goats are bigger than Jen's they are good bush goats and they can defend themselves against mean horses and dogs. My babies are well socialized too, they are like dogs!

jennwarr84 - March 6, 2008 01:11 PM (GMT)
My goats are really more like pets. They are small and can't really stand up for themselves. I think they are more for people that want the company of a small goat. Mine are picky eaters too. Brutus wouldn't even eat grass!!!

HHF - March 6, 2008 01:24 PM (GMT)
Hahah yeah I know, one of my boarder has a pygmy goat and it would not associate with my goats and it never went out of the barn to eat grass, it would eat my apper work on my desk, my leather tack, and jump on peoples cars! My goats are to big, fat, and lazy to jump on cars. And thank goodness they loves eating weeds. I will post pictures when they have the babies.

jennwarr84 - March 6, 2008 01:46 PM (GMT)
We actually got our goats to be companions to the horses, but in my research, I failed to realize that certain breeds were better than others!!! They don't even come to the horses knees!!! Then Lil Man & Cowgirl turned into goat chasers. The babies are precious though. I have considered getting a larger goat or 2 to run with them, maybe teach mine how to be goats!!!

Thanks for the info. I might be looking into this more closely...gotta convince DH first. ;)
Do you always have a few goats for sale? Will one be OK or do they need another goat for company?

MegansMenagerie - March 6, 2008 08:22 PM (GMT)

If any one is looking in the northern part of the state. I have several that I would like to sale...... They are big goats though. Boar/nubian cross. My last billy that I had with them weighed in at 250lbs. I have a wether now thats pushing that and he is trained to pull my cart....

I have a intact billy, who is black and white

I also have 2 or 3 nannies that I would like to move.

I am going to keep my big wether and he doesnt stink either. I would like to get some pygmies for my petting zoo.
