I would like to find and buy an oval leather backed grooming brush. These were once very common, but all I can find now are the oval brushes with the heavy wood backs and leather strap. I would not mind buying a used one with a leather back in good condition.

I have a brush like you describe that I bought from a tack store in Memphis about 20 years ago.....paid $25 for it new...and it has always been my favorite brush The last time I saw one in a catalog a while back, the price for what looked like the same brand was around $70. I've looked in the Dover and Smart Pak catalogs but I don't see any there. You might check with Saddles N" Such in Germantown, Tn.
