Title: Wanted: Gaited gelding broke to ride and pull

littletwofeet - November 13, 2007 03:11 AM (GMT)
Hi Ya'll.
I posted this on the wanted section as well...but thought I'd post it here too.

My husband and I are looking for a gaited horse that is broke to pull a buggy as well as ride...preferably a Standardbred, but a TWH would be fine as well. We are really looking for the horse that most folks don't ever want to sell. My husband has a horrible work schedule that mostly consists of 7-12's...and I am a stay at home mother of a one year old little girl. Therefor, we need a horse that is able to sit in the field for a couple weeks in between rides..and be the same horse when we ride him. Oh...we prefer a gelding, and color does not matter. Needs to be experienced...so nothing too young...preferably at least seven years old. We would be mostly riding on the highway and blacktop/dirt community roads...so needs to be traffic safe.
Needs to be easy to handle on the ground, as most of the time I have a baby on my hip. ;) Registration is not required.
It would be nice if this horse was quiet enough to ride my little girl around on eventually...as all the horses we have at the moment are too goey for that.

We might possibly be interested in buying a "team"...but both would HAVE to be broke to ride, as well. Nothing green, either.

If anyone has a horse they think may be suitable, or knows of one...or possibly knows of a farm that may have what we're looking for..please email me at
jessicaandrickie @ tds. net (REMOVE SPACES)

Much appreciated!
Jessica

Welcome to the forum Jessica. I don't know of anyone with what you are looking for, but I wish you good luck in your search.

Welcome Jessica.
I noticed a TW in the Market Bulletin that could possibly fit the bill.
I don't remember if it said he drove or not.
20yo gelding. Free to good home. Calm, experienced, etc etc.
On the smaller side for a TW at 14.2, but sounded like a great horse.

If you don't get the Market Bulletin, it can be found online at:
http://www.mdac.state.ms.us/n_library/pub_...mmb_archive.asp
Just click on the latest date.
They generally post it online a week or two after it's been out in paper.
I just got one the other day, so it may not be on there yet.

Thanks for the heads-up on the walking horse in the Bulletin, Joey. We do get the M.B..and I did see that ad, unfortunately, it is not listed as being buggy-broke, though. Also, 20 years old really is a lot older than what we're wanting. We already have an "old man" (late teens/early twenties)...that's facing retirement. With our limited land, we really don't have room for two horses that are at "retirement age". Of course, I understand that no horse is immune to being retired, no matter the age....but, obviously the likelihood of that happening increases the older a horse is. If we're not careful...we'd have a horsey-retirement village...with no extra room for riding horses.LOL! We would like to find something between 7 and 12/13...maybe a year or so younger, but only if it had a lot of experience.

Thanks for the lead, though. :)

If anyone knows of any Standarbred farms in the State (or even over in Alabama)...I'd appreciate it. I know of some folks with Standardbreds...however, they don't really have what we're looking for.

Thanks ya'll.
Jess
