UPDATED
For the summer only we are going to do a race to ten, after playing a couple trial matches last night we decided the win by 2 is dead. Chris Baus and I played for 2 1/2 or 3 hours straight with maybe 2, 5 minute breaks and ended up at 9-9. A Straight race to 10 will be torture enough trust me. Records will be decided by won/loss records and the number of games won the season will be used as a tie breaker if needed in the end. Weekly standings will be posted here, at Lino's and eventually on Lino's website. Our start date is May 24. It will be a 14 week season and we'll play everyone twice. The official start time will be 7:30 but we encourage everyone to cmmunicate and set up individual start times for your weekly matches that will work best for you. If you can both get there at 6:30 why not start early. (I think beer's cheaper then)
These are the players we have for the summer season:
Danny Boyce
Mike Dobish
Tony Neal
Craig Day
Ian Miller
Chris Baus
Jason Nelson
Tom Samolis
There will be a $40 fee that will cover to whole season. Along with $3 per night that will go to the high out over 101. If nobody hits it rolls over to the next week. Call me at (440)342-2368 if you have any questions. Remember this is just a trial run to get the kinks out. We are here to have fun and if a problem arises we will work it out so it is fair as possible for everyone involved. No guarantees this is going to run perfectly smoothly guys. No complainers. Come to have fun! Danny, throw in anything I missed and correct anything I have wrong. Anyone that is going to be at the banquet tonight see me or Danny and we'll have a schedule and a sample nightly scoresheet.
PS. This is NOT an LEDA SANCTIONED EVENT the LEDA is letting us use this forum thread out of the goodness of their hearts and their wanting to promote the sport of darts. Players will not be turned away for gender or level of play, only for past behavior ( extreme ) or bad sportsmanship.
PS. The floor is still open to ideas and suggestions.
dboy131 - May 18, 2007 09:51 PM (GMT)
The only thing I can add is that you bull up only once, then alternate who throws first each leg. If it is tied 9-9, the you bull up to start the 19th leg. Outside of that, I can't think of much else. I'll have schedules with me.
dboy131 - May 22, 2007 06:45 PM (GMT)
To those playing on Thursday's Singles League:
When you show up each Thursday, the bartender will have scoresheets behind the bar. When you are playing please put down the result of each leg (W or L), how many darts each player shot, and how many points the loser of the leg had left. Also, count the number of 100+ scores you had as well as seperately noting anywhere on the sheet any out of 101 or higher. Good luck to all participants, may the best man win (except for maybe Tom - ha!), and enjoy the season.
Dboy
eastsidertony - May 23, 2007 04:47 PM (GMT)
Danny, you already excluded Tom by saying may the best MAN win.
Anyway, if everyone could possible try to show up around 7 so we can go over the scoresheet, exchange contact info, and briefly go over the rules that would be a big help. Other than that good luck everyone and HAVE FUN. See you all Thursday.
PS, this is a NO BITCHING ALLOWED league. if there's a problem, we'll talk about it and figure it out.
dboy131 - May 23, 2007 08:43 PM (GMT)
And please note that the suggestion box is located next to the ATM at Lino's.
:)
Craig - May 24, 2007 07:59 PM (GMT)
I'm already gonna start bitchin because I don't care for any of you and I will waste anyone in my way to the huge pot at the end. JK. I thought I would say something since Tony did. See ya all tonight.
Watch out for Tom. He's coming to get us.
MikeD - May 24, 2007 10:09 PM (GMT)
Don't make Tom mad. I have to play him the first week! :(
dboy131 - May 29, 2007 08:57 PM (GMT)
Some questions that I have answers for after 1 week:
1) No, the stats weren't too difficult to develop. They get done automatically.
2) No, I really don't have too much else to do with my time.
3) Yes, I have tried dating, this is more enjoyable to me.
4) Yes, it was an ugly 1st week.
5) Yes, it will improve.
6) The tie breakers are a combination of the American sports leagues (head-to-head) and the way the Europeans run their leagues (leg diff., legs won against throw). I figured it would provide a different twist. I really don't think any tie will go past the 2nd tie breaker, but I had to be prepared in case.
7) Once I have the spreadsheet at Lino's, the standings will be available on his website.
If there are any other questions, please let me know.

Dan, I can't find the singles stats on Lino's Website. Help!
dboy131 - June 1, 2007 04:12 PM (GMT)
I haven't posted them yet.
MikeD - June 1, 2007 04:45 PM (GMT)
Dan, can you email us the weekly and combined stats once you have them entered?
dboy131 - June 4, 2007 10:03 PM (GMT)
So far I think the best way to describe the first couple of weeks would be intriguing. I think a couple of matches were closer than the final scores showed, and the scores should improve each week. Thoughts?
Craig - June 4, 2007 10:18 PM (GMT)
Thoughts? Yeah, I suck!
Having fun though. I look forward to the coming weeks. I think things could go either way. Right now Mike and Rockstar are looking pretty good. Looking forward to that matchup. I think the rest of us are trying to find our stroke. It would be nice to hear from the rest of the bunch to see how they feel about it.
MikeD - June 5, 2007 11:04 AM (GMT)
I'm surprised that no match has been closer than 10-3. That's shocking to me.
dboy131 - June 5, 2007 11:51 AM (GMT)
Yeah, but your's was 3-3, and mine was 6-3. Part of it's a mental thing, when you're down 3-4 games if someone gets hot. We'll have a few close ones before the season's over.
Craig - June 5, 2007 12:12 PM (GMT)
I'm with you on that Mike. I think they will with the matchups coming. Has anyone thought shooting all the games of 501 in a row is long? I haven't yet. I also haven't had any match be 9-9 either. I think 2-2 1/2 hours has been the norm so far. Any longer?
MikeD - June 5, 2007 01:38 PM (GMT)
I honestly have not paid attention to how long the matches have been. I was getting fatigued in the first week after the 6th or 7th game. I've never thrown that many games in a row before this. That week I threw some long games, though. The key is to keep the games short. The outs are the key for me.
dboy131 - June 5, 2007 05:04 PM (GMT)
I agree. The biggest problem every seems to have is the finishing. There should be some really good match ups coming in the next few weeks.
eastsidertony - June 6, 2007 04:30 PM (GMT)
I think Rockstar nailed it the first week. Even the matches that look good on paper may not necesarilly end up that way. You are going to end up with one guy that shows up not on his game(me last week), and it turns ugly. Mike and I came out 3-3 and I lost all feel for my darts... I lost 7 straight most by over 100 to 200 points. It got ugly quick.
dboy131 - June 6, 2007 05:10 PM (GMT)
I think it helps create a tougher mentality, like how to withstand a barrage when someone's read hot for 3-4 legs, How to fight back when you're a couple of legs down, etc.
eastsidertony - June 6, 2007 09:26 PM (GMT)
If you guys want a stamina builder, come out to the ADO Qualifier at Lino's on June 16th at noon. It will cost $10 and the one I played in last week I played 24 games of 501. It's a good time. good competition and well worth the $10.
dboy131 - June 7, 2007 09:23 PM (GMT)
That's something very important to note. Outside of solitary practice, playing better competition is the best way to improve your game.
MikeD - June 18, 2007 09:35 PM (GMT)
Check out this Website. It's got an interesting article on slumps. Pretty cool.
Dartbase.comClick on "First Slump"
Craig - June 18, 2007 10:19 PM (GMT)
Thanks Mike. I'm glad this helped me out of my slump before I play you Thursday. Just kidding. Article make sense though.
Thanks again for the link

I just saw the ad for the Dog Days tournament at Players Club. What's Calcutta? (Dan, I know it's a city in India!)
spiderman - July 11, 2007 07:24 PM (GMT)
Tony N will have to address this. I know it's something about bidding to pick the winners of the blind draw. I'm sure this cleared it up for you.
Craig - July 11, 2007 07:26 PM (GMT)
spiderman - July 11, 2007 07:28 PM (GMT)
Ok it cleared it for everyone but Craig, right?
MikeD - July 11, 2007 09:45 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the help Spidey!
Craig - July 11, 2007 09:50 PM (GMT)
spiderman - July 11, 2007 10:27 PM (GMT)
Here is what the flyer says " Calcutta is an auction of teams, teams are auctioned off, if the team that you bid on wins the tournament- you win 75% of the Calcutta pot. The person that bids on the second place team wins the remaining 25% of the pot." Tony Neal will be running this on Saturday. Thats the best I can do. Otay?
dboy131 - July 12, 2007 04:23 PM (GMT)
It literally works like an auction. They announce the first team, then take bids. Then the second team, then the third, and so on. The last time they held one, I won a couple hundred bucks. It's pretty cool, and gives you hope to win, even if you're knocked out.

Here is a link to Gary Mawson's simi finals in Vegas. I'm only posting it because it's the same format as ours and it list all the same numbers in our stat sheet. Except for 140+ and 180s and single dart ave.

Craig - July 16, 2007 09:25 PM (GMT)
Rockstar has them beat with tons. Its the 180's we aren't competing with. Mike and Rockstar have thrown some very good games. A couple 180's a night would sure help the averages. Maybe we need to practice more! Or maybe just go out when you have a chance!
See you guys Thursday
MikeD - July 16, 2007 10:26 PM (GMT)
Their 90 and 100 3-dart averages are crushing our little 55's or 60's. We do eat up our 3 dart averages a little by not being able to close. Their low throws are 85's and 81's, ours are 45's and 26's.
dboy131 - July 17, 2007 01:40 AM (GMT)
Good point, Mike. They're averaging 16-17 dart games consistently, where we get 1-2 of those per night.
MikeD - August 4, 2007 03:20 PM (GMT)
What should we do about the singles league in the fall? Depending on the interest, we should consider some kind of divisions or levels.
