Title: Let The Debate Begin- Phil Or Karl

Well here's your chance to weigh in. Let the debate begin. Phil or Karl?

Personally I lean heavilly (how could someone my size lean lightly) toward Phil. I admit I don't know a lot about Karl. But I have been told by reliable sources that he tried while president the first time to move the league office. Now everyone is always complaining about fees. Right now we have no cost for keeping the office space or utilities. Who in their right mind would want to give up a great deal like that? It could not possible have been a deal that would have benefitted the league and it's members. If I'm wrong correct me please, but I truely can't see logic in a move like that.
I also do not support electing someone president that I believe would remove Dianna and put our beloved "for the league" in as the office manager. You've all heard those that remember weigh in on what it was like getting responses or getting things accomplished during that era. Personally I like the direction this league has been headed and think we can continue to improve greatly with Phil.

I like Karl. I think he is a great dart player and a good all-around person. As president of this club thou I think Phil would fill the position better. Just by the way the web site has been kept up shows the hard work Phil is willing to do. I would like to see both Karl and Phil get more active in this forum.

Thanks Tom

Phil ask me to post this:

First let me say that I do not feel that the LEDA Board members should post to this forum. This forum is not run by the B.O.D. I for one think it is best if the board members read the forum but do not get involved in any debates. I do read what you guy’s post and I think there have been a lot of good ideas thrown around. So, having said that I am asking Dianna to log in as I do not have an account on the forum and post this for me, this will be my only post.
Many of you have asked to hear from the candidates, so here’s my campaign pitch. VOTE FOR PHIL CALDERONE --- PRESIDENT LEDA

As demonstrated on the LEDA web page, and as your League Director and 1st Vice President for the past three years my dedication to the LEDA has been proven time and time again. I have helped out at many tournaments in the past 5 years. I am sure if you ask anyone on the current Board of Directors or anyone of the current committee members they would say I can be counted on if needed by the League and I will always be professional, honest and fair. I have been a member in good standing for over fourteen years and I know what it takes to run the LEDA. In my professional life I have been in a management role for over twenty years, I have been responsible for large and small organizations and am known for my integrity, honesty and ability to lead. I know what it takes to be successful and I will keep the LEDA going in the right direction. As The President of the LEDA you will find me to be an enthusiastic and disciplined team leader, committed to supporting your league in achieving it’s objectives through superior performance.
VOTE FOR PHIL CALDERONE --- PRESIDENT LEDA

Thank you,
I approve this message (LOL) :D
Phil Calderone

Alright here goes....

I've been around when both Phil & Karl have held offices on the Board and have served with both in this capacity. Here's my take on it....no that any of you care...lol.
I have nothing against either candidate. I like them both on a personal and professional level. The comments placed here are placed with the future of the club at stake.

Karl:
Yes, he did raise fees and yes he did want to move the office. Why, you ask? The raise in the cost of fees came because for years prior and including the years he was President, the Lake Erie Classic Dart Tournament ran over in expenses in the $1000's. That's right, thousands!!!! One year $16,000 was spent over and above all costs and fee money collected for individual event participants.
In answer to your question Tony, why would Karl want to move the office??? Well, because Mike Orav who owns the building at Vok's decided there would be NO SMOKING in the building anymore. Karl at the time smoked and probably still does...and he didn't like Mike's choice to eliminate smoking in his building. Plain and simple. As for if there is or was something going on between 'For the league' and Karl...I won't speculate. I know Karl has a lovely wife but his personal life shouldn't enter into this. I have heard it said that if re-elected, Karl wants to place her back into the office...I have never heard Karl state this and the bylaws protect Dianna and this club, should this event happen and Karl tries to effect a change.

Phil:
I am proud to say this man is my friend and I have seen firsthand what this man has done for this club. His tireless efforts to help control costs, make the office more efficient by adding new equipment at a huge discount he got for the club, running and assisting in tournaments, and his overall professionalism, dedication, trustworthiness, and loyality to this club goes fair beyond most members. He has accepted the responsibilities of updating the website, helping at tournaments, helping with Fall/Winter banquet and the summer picnic, and helping when no one else could, all the while performing his duties as 1st VP.

I will base my desision on frsthand knowledge...I have seen both these men in action for this club and in my honest opinion, Phil Calderone is the man I feel can best represent this club and move the club in a forward direction.

Sorry but I had to put in my $1 worth...and hopefully open the eyes of some who read this forum and are on the fence as to who to vote for or who Karl even is....

[SIZE=7]Please vote for Phil, he will do you and the LEDA proud!!!

Since there's a search for member's two cents, and I always seem to have a dime or fifty in me, here's my thought about a couple of things:

I have no problem with the BOD posting on this site. The site's for members, and the members of the BOD are members the LEDA. I respect the side you take, Phil, but I think that posting on the site will keep the BOD more in tune with what's on the members' minds. In the age of technology keeping us in touch even when we're hundreds of miles away, I would almost say it's almost a necessity to at least read this as a part of the Board.

I can honestly say that I would not be able to give a fair assessment here. I clearly know Phil much better than Karl, and the ones that I have spoken to about Karl, well, let's just say the commentary could be safely described as "negative." I will leave it at that, because I unfortunately do not know enough details about the past, and therefore am not in a position to discuss at greater length. That being said, I personally don't have anything against Karl. That is just the track record that I have been presented. This could be accurate, this could be vengeful people looking for that last dig (and we already see where that leads).

Do I feel that Phil can do a great job? Absolutely. He has shown the dedication, effort, intelligence, and concern that it takes to make a club function smoothly. Would it be easy for him? Absolutely not. Ask anyone who has ever held a director's position, let alone a position on the board, you will never make everyone happy, and you will always have detractors. The most important thing is to remember ultimately what is best for the club, now and 5-10-20 years from now. They will have to be able to work with the entire board and the committee directors. They will have to be able to listen, but at the same time take control when necessary. They have to be able to take a stand, but not be too confrontational. They have to be able to dedicate a lot of time and effort, not just at league functions, but at practically any time.

This isn't a position for a politician, I can find any jackass to stand in front and smile and wave. A few years back, I felt Steve Kelsey was a good fit for the position. Unfortunately, Steve's time has been hampered (Damn jobs, the give you a paycheck and expect you to work for it. Don't get me started) and it has been difficult for him to put in the necessary time, as well as the time he would like to commit. Whoever wins has my support, as long as the goal remains to promote the game and the growth of the LEDA.

If I'm put on the spot, my vote is for Phil. Like I said, though, I'm biased.

I mentioned that I would like to see the board get more involved in this forum. Some feedback is better then none. Even if there is a special place that BOD can post (password protected of course). As Danny said "The site's for members, and the members of the BOD are members too".

Thanks Tom

I think it's important for 2 reasons. One, the board will know how the other members think. Two, the other members will know the board members' opinions on matters.
