Title: Shirts As Awards

spiderman - April 26, 2007 04:09 PM (GMT)
has any thought been given to giving nice dart shirts to league champions or to the tourney champions ( top darter, turkey shoot, etc.) that are run by the LEDA. not sure what it would cost but just a thought. I know they do it for some softball tourneys and leagues.

Dianna - April 26, 2007 04:26 PM (GMT)

We have thought about the shirts as awards, that is how the jackets came about for the Top Darter. We have kicked around alot of ideas for awards. It is amazing to me how many people do not want their plaques. So if you all have any other idea's of what you might want if you win your division, please let me know and I will take it to the Board.

Thanks,

What is your opinions on Second place plaques? We have had some people say that they do not want second place plaques, because that means they lost first place.
Thanks Again,

i think 1st and 2nd place plaques are fine. yea 2nd means your the first loser, but it still is an accomplishment. I saw the jacket for top darter, but that was only for the overall champ. i don't know for sure but i would imagine that the diamond players win the majority of the top dater tourneys, i've only been in the league a couple of years, but i haven't heard of a emerald or saphire winning(could be wrong). why doesn't the top darter for each division get a jacket or shirt and give the overall champ a plaque or champions shirt/jacket? These could be ordered at the end of the season and given out at the banquet. it would be nice to have a monogramed shirt to show off at league events. just a few thoughts from your friendly neighborhood spiderman

To be honest, Dianna, the plaques don't mean a lot to me, anyway. I remember the one year the team I was on received jackets, and that was cool, because at least I would wear the jacket. Plaques are nice if you're into dusting, but I'm not.

I'm not suggesting jackets as a reward, because I know how expensive they can get. I like the idea of T-shirts for the first place team, and a team plaque for the top 2 teams for the bar.

You have to remember that a lot of us over the years have accumulated a lot of plaques. I'm definitely in the lower echelon of these people, but I'm not hanging mine up any time soon. If anyone ever asks, I just point up at the team ones at Lino's that have my name on them. Then I point the 8,000+ of Lefty's, just to remind them that I'm not that good. ;)

I like getting plaques for first or second place as far as league is concerned. It reminds me of that team that I was on, and what I accomplished that year. I think the shirt (polo better than T) or jacket would be great for singles accomplishments such as top darter, all star teams, or tournament winners.

I'm not a plaque guy myself. I have only a couple that are still in the plastic they came in. I plan on playing for a long time and hopefully continue to get better. Having several plaques don't mean much. Do any of you still have all those trophies and plaques from playing sports when your were a kid? I got rid of mine when I moved away from home.

I think a shirt is cool. I'm not for polo though. Just not my style. More of t-shirt with cut off sleves. I'm sure this will get many ideas flowing. Good Post!

not all of us have the guns that you have to show off. I was thinking of a button down shirt like the ones they wear on T.V. See you Sat. Craig

Craig - April 26, 2007 06:35 PM (GMT)
I like those. That is what I have for my company shirts. I get the shirts from Automotive workwear online for $7 a pc. I have my buddy print them in Mentor.

I like plaques, not that I have a single one hanging on a wall in my house. I think maybe bar Plaques and shirts. Then again, I could also wear a different dart shirt every league night for an entire season at this point too, so maybe a voucher system which has been brought up in the past, where you could save up a couple seasons worth of awards and then "cash them in" for a jacket. this would save the League money because half the people would end up losing or forgetting about them and never cashing them in. Of course, now that I'm in Diamond 1 I have a lot of recruiting to do before I have to worry about any of this.

This subject has come up many times over the years. I know I speak for both Steve and I that we are tired of the plaques.

When we first started it was cool to get a plaque but as time goes on, you start to lose interest. Ours are in a box (still in the plastic too) in the garage. Maybe we could hang them in there...lol, that's a thought. I really don't feel the necessity to hang them up in the house. We have other areas of interest that are displayed in our home.

I liked seeing the faces of the first place team in Diamond getting the jackets instead of the plaque the one year it was done. I understand that it was costly the first time we did it due to setup costs for the embroidery but now I don't think it would cost much more than the plaques, of course I could be wrong and it wouldn't be the first time...LOL!

As for 2nd place plaques, well I think it's ok for the bar, but I personally wouldn't want one. Just my choice. I would rather see the cost of the plaques placed in our payout check. Or at least given the option of a plaque or $$. I think most would go for the additional $$ in the checks before they'd take a plaque (course, this would probably be in the upper divisions) taking into account lower divisions probably don't have many plaques.

Steve is on a bowling league (several) and each does it different. One pays cash for everything but 1st place, they get trophies and $$. Some just give out $$, those he likes better...LOL! Green backs are a good thing..lol.

You're not gonna please everyone no matter how hard you try, so given them the option to choose. Then they can't complain...JMHO.

Craig,

I actually do have them. When I moved, my mother made sure that they didn't stay in her house. They're still in a box in a closet. The only reason I know this is because I had to tear apart the house to find my diploma for work. Tells you what I really think of my accomplishments.

MikeD - May 2, 2007 09:51 PM (GMT)
I actually like the plaques. Although we stopped getting them now that we're in Diamond 1. A shirt, jacket or hat would be more useful. My suggestion for saving the league money is to stop giving money back to the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th place teams in the division. Many of the individual players aren't even aware that they get some money back anyway. ;)

eastsidertony - May 2, 2007 10:30 PM (GMT)
I have always agreed with that. Especially at least 7th and 8th places. What is the point of paying in all season long just to come in last place and get some of the money back. Never made sense to me. The only explanation I have ever gotten to that has been. "that's how it's always been done". I don't get it.

g-regular - May 3, 2007 01:20 PM (GMT)
I agree that other awards would be more useful, but i also like to see all the mentions earned during the season. I cant think of a cheap way to get those put on a shirt or hat. I would be lying tho if I said i've taken my couple plaques out of the plastic they came in.

Just my thoughts,
g

If a team takes 1st place i think they should get a jacket, tee shirt, polo shirt,a new set of voks darts,a plaque, dart board,a trip to bahamas,a life time supply of flights, free dart sharpening,a gift certificate to Dairy Queen,a limo to all darting events,an announcer for when you arrive and any live band of our choice for backgound music. Im not just saying this cuz we took 1st either!

tomphotographer - May 4, 2007 02:21 AM (GMT)
I knew I should of tried harder!!! <_<

Rockstar - May 5, 2007 05:08 PM (GMT)
I'm for a polo or button down.I'm with spiderman some of us aren't ripped enough to wear a cut off.I do like getting plaques. What if you let the 1st place team decide if they want shirts or plaques.Or if the team has team shirts paying for embroding(how ever you spell the damn word) on their team shirts.Something like " '07 division champs " on the sleve or were ever they want it put. :ph43r:

eastsidertony - May 7, 2007 01:47 PM (GMT)
Those Dart Hell Shirts would be getting pretty crowded with CDC Embroideries wouldn't they?

eastsidertony - May 11, 2007 07:12 PM (GMT)
What about giving captains the choice between plaques, jackets, shirts, or extra payouts? The jackets would of course be limited to one per player per 3 year period and they would then get an update embroidery added for each additional season they win after that within that period. this allows for teams with different preferences and might come the closest to making "everyone happy." the election form could be handed out in the captains folder at the beginning of the season and due by week 11 of so for any team that's "in the running" for first place.

I also think that payouts for 5th through 8th place should either be eliminated or seriosly cut back. What is the point of paying in every week just to come in at the bottom and get your money back. At the same time the first place teams don't even get enough back to pay their fees. I am saying this from the point of view of a team that will not at any time in the near future see a first or second place check. It is just common sense. I think we can greatly improve our payouts and prizes for the actual winning teams if we stop giving so much to the last couple places. Any comments?

spiderman - May 11, 2007 10:06 PM (GMT)
tony, what is the % that each teams recieves back per 8 team division, 1st thru 8th. I agree that the first place team should make at least the league fee back. I would agree to cutting back 5th thru 8th but not eliminating all. I also like the idea of picking your award.

VAunger - May 11, 2007 10:28 PM (GMT)
I think you should cut back but like it was stated don't eliminate. I think you would have the possibility of people not wanting to come back and play if you cut to much for the lower placed teams, (mind you I am usually on the lower end of the totem pole also.)
We tried cutting back the payout in my league and we lost quite a bit of teams because of it. So just my two sense.

eastsidertony - May 17, 2007 10:31 PM (GMT)
The though right now isn't to eliminate them just to cut back at the bottom to better reward the top. Again, I know I won't be reaping to rewards from these changes. In my opinion, what is more memorable, getting and extra $6 each in last place or jackets that season you actually pulled off a 1st place finish? My vote is for the Jackets, personally.
