Title: D2 - D4 Mentions
Description: changing the amounts

winniefussner - November 14, 2006 02:36 PM (GMT)
I know that it has been this way for years now, but how about changing the write-ups in D2 through D4 to a lower amount?

Have a top darter tourney for D2 through S6 and let the D1 players fight amoungst themselves for a plaque and see what happens...most of the D1 players will tell you that they don't want another plaque.

The D2 through D4 players are being held to a standard that most who just play for the enjoyment of the game or to see friends once a week, can't meet for an individual plaque.

What's your opinion? Just some thoughts to keep this thing running...

Not a bad idea, I will bring it up to the board and the League directors. I know that it will not be done in time for the Winter Season. But if they like the idea maybe next Fall.

I wish I had more mentions. I don't think lowering the standards is the answer thou. Even if some D2-D4 darters just show up to see friends and have a good time playing darts, they are still good enough to be in a diamond division. If they are getting more mentions, it makes the mention less special. Some darters take it too serious and they will only get more mentions. These are targets set to make us better darters. Lets keep striving for them.

Well I think Winnie and Tom both have good ideas. The point Winnie makes is valid.
Some of us like to go to darts and socialize. We also like to get mentions and are good enough to be in diamond as Tom said.

However, these mentions were put in place based on D1....to get an individual plaque, you have to have 10 a half because it's based on D1. Emerald division, if I'm not mistaken needs 6..maybe we split the difference and make it that you need 8 to get a plaque for individual mentions?

I agree with Tom. The solution is to throw better darts. If it's not important enough to you to practice, then it shouldn't matter to you if you get mention plaques or not. Tom and I are both Diamond One darters. If we lose or don't get mentions we strive to improve our games, not look for rule changes. As far as not wanting individual plaques in Diamond One, you're mistaken. I have found it much more difficult to get a plaque in Diamond One than in any other division and I appreciate it more if I am able to throw well enough to get one. We are throwing against the best darters in LEDA week in and week out.

I think that I misunderstood the original post, I was thinking that Winnie was talking about changing the number of darts for a mention. Not the number needed for plaques. The number of mentions for plaques is already lower for D2-D4, than it is for D1.
D1 -- Needs 10 mentions per season for a plaque
D2-D4 -- Needs 6 mentions per season for a plaque
Emerald is 3
Sapphire is 2

I agree with the D1 guys. Mentions are meant to be goals and really shouldn't be that easily attained. Please note that this may be the shortest comment I have ever made, spoken, typed, or otherwise.
