Title: Any Ideas??
eastsidertony - July 15, 2006 03:56 AM (GMT)
I know we all love the league, but anyone have any ideas that might improve the league?
How about Tournament participation? Any ideas how to improve this?

How about more singles tournaments?

There are some plans in the works for some singles tournaments, but generally we don't get very good turn outs for the smaller "league level" singles tournaments. It seems to be the same 10 or 15 people that show up for them, even if they are based on division.

How about having them when most people can show up instead of when its conveinient for the bar or when the person running wants to have it?

The problem that presents itself is that there are so few people that are willing to do the work involved in holding tournaments. If you are volunteering to hold tournaments at a different time and place than what's offered let us know and we'd be happy to look into it.
As far as when it's convenient for the bars, we only have a few that can handle a tournament. I assume you've been in Lino's on a Saturday night, where would we put darters, that there wouldn't be complaints about being run into or distracted by the crowd.
We only have tournaments when it's convenient for the bars and those running them because if we didn't have a place to have it, and someone to run it, how do you have a tournament?
The LEDA has introduced at least 7 tounaments in the last 3 years that either had never been held before or were restarted after several years off. That said, the league is always open to suggestions for other times and locations to hold a tournament.

I've heard the suggestion of having tournaments on Wednesday nights, since that's regular league night, but the problem presented there is how long blind draws go, and people don't want to be out until 1 in the morning (damn jobs!).
While several options can be explored, the biggest bit of promotion will honestly have to come not from the board, but from the players themselves. We have to be the ones pushing the newer players into coming out and seeing everything firsthand. That's how all of us got exposed to it. Now is a good time to be out pushing what we offer, with the additional TV coverage on ESPN and Fox. I know of several people that have made the comments about the pros on TV, so I know that people are watching. It's definitely something to build upon

Maybe if we could give a servey to all the captains and then we could get an idea from the members them selfs. They are the ones we need to show up. Lets ask what will make them come or why they won't come.

Nights like tonight are the opportunities we can take advantage of. If you are out and about, talk to a few of the other players that are out there, make it known who you are (kinda like how Dusty does it), let them know about trails, tournaments, the Challenge, Top Dawg, picking me up off the floor at 8:30 am, chasing down missing luggage carts, etc.
