Title: Away Team Wednesday Night Payment.
Description: Having away team pay with check or m.o.
SpungeBob - December 15, 2007 04:08 AM (GMT)
I think that it would be a good idea that the each team should pay with a check or a money order each week that they are away. This would make things easyer on lots team captians and even the teams that have though's nights that the captain is not there or might be out of town and someone else has to fill in as captian for the week. It would even be easyer on all the teams in the League that are pre-paid for the half.
I run into that problem most nights my team is at home. My team captain seems to be out of town most weeks and i fill in as captian. Being that i don't have a checking acount i always have to relie on another team member to get me check on time or relie on them to get the scoresheet in on time.
So maybee you cant make a coment on this subject and tell the fine members of this forum, the members of the L.E.D.A. and your teamates and tell us all what you and your team think about this subject.

SpungeBob,
This topic has been a hot button for some people over the years, and I'm not exactly sure why. I personally agree with you, but several people have complained that if it's that simple, just pony up the check yourself.
Our solution has been to prepay for the whole season, then it's one less thing to worry about each week.

dboy131,
I agree with your comment about the pre-pay more than what i sugested. If every team were to pre-pay it would make things so much easyer for all the captains and dianna in the office. Every week she has to stamp tons of checks and go through all the checks\money orders to make sure everyone paid the correct amount.
This pre-pay idea is somthing that has come up plenty of times so i hear from plenty of people. If it was up to me i would have every team pre-pay, but some teams say they have trouble getting cash for the whole fall or winter half.
This is how it might brake down on average for a team to pre pay:
For all 14 weeks at $18.00 a week it adds up to $252.00, and the team roster fee is $15.00 for fall and winter.that adds up to $267.00 for the team each fall and winter. Giving if a team comes in fourth place they would recive $139.00 in winnings. That means the team would owe $128.00. The amount they would owe would vary depending on what place they came in, but if you figure that each team on average has five players each player would owe $25.60 for a fourth place finnish.
Now after i did the math and saw that it's not that much money to pre pay for the half i think that its stupid to have everyone pay each weeks. I think if you cant come up with 15-50 dollars to pay at the start of the half you must not have any money to your name.

While prepaying is a fine idea for some, please keep in mind that it doesn't work for everyone. Each team is responsible for 14 weeks at $18, plus a $15 roster fee. That adds up to $267 a season. If there are only 4 people on your team that makes each person responsible for paying $66.75 upfront. Some people just don't have it. If you're a team that decides to prepay and someone on your team doesn't have that amount upfront, that means the captain has to cover, and that's not always possible either. While I understand that there can be some inconvenience when teams that pay cash or check every week (every team in our division). I didn't find it that big of a deal to throw the checks in my wallet and include them in the envelope when I dropped off the scoresheet.

I don't mind the pay per week thing its just a pain to have the away team pay cash when my team pre-pays the season. I do understand that some people can't pay upfront for the season if it cost $66.75 but you have to figure that the team gets some cash as prize money. But if you pay every week it would make Sense if the away team payed with check or money order to make it easyer on the teams away ond home. just make a check out for $18.00 every week. The teams it makes it easyer on would bet the pre-pay teams but it can make it easyer on the teams that pay with a money order to. It's something to think about and maybe impliment in the near future.
Make things easyer for the captains.

I understand the difficulties. I used to carry my own check book on dart night, even though I wasn't the captain, just to make it easier.
I remember we had a post in here a couple of years ago with the same concern, and it was met with some strong backlash. We used to take our payout from the previous half and put that towards the fees for the year. I also played at a bar where the owner played and had several other teams, so he would mail in all of the scoresheets and write one check for all of the teams, and we would leave him the cash. There are several work arounds, and in all honesty, it wasn't too difficult (even at 1:45 am drunk) to write a check for whatever the amount was. It might have been a little inconvenient, but nothing drastic. It would be nice, though, if the visitors would give you a stamp with the cash as token of thanks, but oh well.
Another thought is what a rival league does (or did, not sure anymore, I've been awake for 49 of the last 51 hours), which was pay half of the fees up front, and the other half at the midway point. I think this reduces the initial up front cost, give the league more money up front (because teams would still prepay the whole year), then you don't have to worry about money changing hands or any side stuff. Just mail in the scoresheet everyweek. I might have just opened up another can of worms, and for that I apologize, but I think we should consider all options.

Danny is right - we have discussed this topic before - from the last time - I think
it came down to - you know that you are responsible for the money when you are home - you signed on to be the captain and that is part of the duties of the captain.
I pre-pay my team - it is much easier for me every week to not have to worry about the money. Most of the Captins in my division pay with a check or are pre-paid themselves. If I do get cash, I just write the check. It would be nice if everyone pre-paid but, like Ian said some people just do not have it up front.
I think Danny commented that you can pay half of the season - you can pay upto
week 7 and then pay the rest that is fine also.
No matter what is decided you can never make everyone happy!

I think what dboy said and or sugested is a great idea for a thing to maybe be voted on in the future. Or maybe somthing to bring up at the captains meating to get some opinions of what the captains think about pay for 7 weeks at the begining and pay the rest befor the second half of the season.
Personaly i think that is probably the best solution to this matter.
dboy131 - December 19, 2007 01:49 PM (GMT)
Dianna brings up a good point. My goal was not to attempt to please everyone, because that would have failed miseribly. I was just throwing out some other options. The attempt is to make things a little easier.
I know it sometimes sucks, but to paraphrase one of my favorite cartoons, "You knew the job was dangerous when you took it."
SpungeBob - December 19, 2007 06:26 PM (GMT)
thats right you can't please everyone, because everyone see's things in differant ways. I was just looking for a common denominator that most everyone can agree on. Thats all.
