Title: Fall Thursday League

eastsidertony - August 22, 2007 02:07 PM (GMT)
Here's our list so far for Fall Thursday Singles League.

Dan Boyce
Craig Day
Mike Dobish
Craig Lemponen
Ian Miller
Tony Neal
Tom Samolis
Jason Griffin
Tim Pittsenbarger
Chris Baus
John Polz
Mark Ventresca
Phil Klug
Eugene Ciasulo (probable)

I'm looking for 1, maybe 2 more players, depending on Eugene.

Craig - August 22, 2007 08:02 PM (GMT)
Any more thought on 2 divisions? Same format? Every time we mention we'll talk about on Thursday, somehow it gets skipped over.

MikeD - August 24, 2007 10:37 AM (GMT)
I'm with Craig on playing people twice. What if we split into 2 divisions (how, I don't know) with a last week championship for the winners of each division. If I'm correct, 14 weeks gets us to December 13th (skipping Thanksgiving). That leaves December 20th as an extra week before Christmas. What do you guys think?

dboy131 - August 24, 2007 02:08 PM (GMT)
I'm not opposed to it, though I think that it adds a little bit of intrigue if you only get one crack at someone.

Craig - August 24, 2007 03:42 PM (GMT)
This may not make sense as far as what we are doing but... If you have 2 divisions of 7 players in each division. Can you treat it like the NFL and make the one division the nfc and the other afc? You would play your division players twice then have the the winners of the the two divisions play for the overall?

Maybe I'm making this more than what it should be. I will do whatever I'm told!! If you do play everyone twice this would make for a real long season. The only other thing would be to shorten the legs to best of 11 or something. Then play twice in one night.

The pros don't start out in the tourny's playing the best of 19 do they? I thought they worked up to the larger numbers.

dboy131 - August 24, 2007 05:22 PM (GMT)
The tournaments vary. The World Matchplay goes best of 19, then 25, 31, 33, and 35 for the final. The World Grand Prix plays double start/double finish, and plays a best of 3 sets for the first round, then progresses. The Desert Classic seems to change every year. The World Championship starts out with a best of 7 sets, and increases to best of 13 for the final. The sets are all 3 out of 5.

However we want to do it we can. If we do 2 7-player divisions, then we get 2 players with byes every week.

spiderman - August 25, 2007 05:43 AM (GMT)
if there is one player from each side with a bye why not have those two play each week. we would play everyone from our own "conference" twice and one time each for the other "conference". this should not add any more weeks to the season. i"m sure danny can figure the schedule out, sorry danny.

dboy131 - August 25, 2007 02:48 PM (GMT)
Don't be sorry, I live for these challenges.

MikeD - August 25, 2007 03:01 PM (GMT)
Good one Spidey!

dboy131 - August 25, 2007 04:27 PM (GMT)
I can definitely set something up. You would play 12 matches within your division, and 2 (the "bye weeks") against the other conference, 2 different opponents. This means that week 1 and week 8 would be different, unlike the way the leagues normally work. This is what the schedule would look like:

Week 1 Week 8
American 1 vs. American 3 American 1 vs. American 3
American 2 vs. American 5 American 2 vs. American 5
American 6 vs. American 4 American 6 vs. American 4
National 1 vs. National 3 National 1 vs. National 2
National 2 vs. National 5 National 3 vs. National 4
National 6 vs. National 4 National 6 vs. National 7
American 7 vs. National 7 American 7 vs. National 5

Week 2 Week 9
American 5 vs. American 6 American 5 vs. American 1
American 2 vs. American 4 American 4 vs. American 7
American 1 vs. American 7 American 3 vs. American 6
National 5 vs. National 6 National 2 vs. National 7
National 2 vs. National 4 National 5 vs. National 3
National 1 vs. National 7 National 1 vs. National 6
American 3 vs. National 3 American 2 vs. National 4

Week 3 Week 10
American 1 vs. American 2 American 5 vs. American 6
American 3 vs. American 4 American 2 vs. American 4
American 6 vs. American 7 American 1 vs. American 7
National 1 vs. National 2 National 1 vs. National 3
National 3 vs. National 4 National 2 vs. National 5
National 6 vs. National 7 National 6 vs. National 4
American 5 vs. National 5 American 3 vs. National 7

Week 4 Week 11
American 5 vs. American 1 American 4 vs. American 1
American 4 vs. American 7 American 5 vs. American 7
American 3 vs. American 6 American 2 vs. American 3
National 5 vs. National 1 National 4 vs. National 5
National 4 vs. National 7 National 6 vs. National 2
National 3 vs. National 6 National 3 vs. National 7
American 2 vs. National 2 American 6 vs. National 1

Week 5 Week 12
American 2 vs. American 7 American 1 vs. American 2
American 5 vs. American 3 American 3 vs. American 4
American 1 vs. American 6 American 6 vs. American 7
National 2 vs. National 7 National 5 vs. National 6
National 5 vs. National 3 National 2 vs. National 4
National 1 vs. National 6 National 1 vs. National 7
American 4 vs. National 4 American 5 vs. National 3

Week 6 Week 13
American 4 vs. American 1 American 4 vs. American 5
American 5 vs. American 7 American 6 vs. American 2
American 2 vs. American 3 American 3 vs. American 7
National 4 vs. National 1 National 5 vs. National 1
National 5 vs. National 7 National 4 vs. National 7
National 2 vs. National 3 National 3 vs. National 6
American 6 vs. National 6 American 1 vs. National 2

Week 7 Week 14
American 4 vs. American 5 American 2 vs. American 7
American 6 vs. American 2 American 5 vs. American 3
American 3 vs. American 7 American 1 vs. American 6
National 4 vs. National 5 National 4 vs. National 1
National 6 vs. National 2 National 5 vs. National 7
National 3 vs. National 7 National 2 vs. National 3
American 1 vs. National 1 American 4 vs. National 6

It adds some variety.

dboy131 - August 25, 2007 05:37 PM (GMT)
Another idea under the 2-division format, the division champs playoff for the overall championship, the remaining 12 players playoff that night in a mini tournament for a few extra bucks, seedings based on division records, a shorter, best-of-5 format. It was also brought up earlier this year that we include an extra dollar on top of the 3 we do for the weekly high out, but to use that for the highest out of the season. Let me know if you have any other suggestions.

dboy131 - August 25, 2007 05:46 PM (GMT)
I was also thinking about additional playouts for best match average and lowest game. Anything else anyone can think of?

Craig - August 25, 2007 07:06 PM (GMT)
We keep going with all the payouts, we might have to hire an accountant. :D

I like everything mentioned. You're doing a fine job dboy!

dboy131 - August 26, 2007 08:46 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the vote of confidence. Mike brought up that the High out for the year might be a little high, so I'm thinking of factoring in most 180's, and other things like that. Lino also said that he is going to kick in a few bucks, too. He also mentioned that he'll find a way to get board 7 up. I'm looking forward to seeing what the place looks like with all those singles matches going. Just incredible.

Jim I - August 27, 2007 03:10 AM (GMT)
I am not exactly sure how this league runs. But I am interested, I just need a little more info.

Thanks,

Jim Inman.

dboy131 - August 27, 2007 06:43 PM (GMT)
Since we have 14 guys, and we've discussed a few things, I would like to have everyone meet up at Lino's sometime over the next couple of weeks, so that we can go over everything. Tony, please get a hold of people like John Polz, since I don't have his number, and Phil Klug, since I have no idea who he is. Nothing personal, Phil, if you are reading this, but I haven't met you yet.

To those new to the league, I think you'll enjoy it. It allows you to recover from early slip ups, where in a usual 2-out-of-3 format you're in trouble. You have to be prepared for a longer match, and it consistency is a must. The best part is that you are guaranteed 10 games a night. There are a bunch of very good players and very good competitors, and you can't take anyone for granted. Well, except for maybe Tom (Ha Ha!). In all seriousness, the average final score this summer was 10-4, while the the loser of the leg had an average of 78 left. More than half the time, the loser had 60 or less left (55.67%). That was over the course of 661 legs. For guys like Phil who don't know me, yes, I actually track this stuff. Excel, the greatest thing to happen on a computer other than fantasy leagues. I can't begin to tell you the number of tales all 8 of us had about struggling to get out and it costing us a few legs or even a match.

eastsidertony - August 27, 2007 06:44 PM (GMT)
Jim, hit us up for Winter session. We have a full roster for Fall as far as I know. If someone backs out we'll let you know.

eastsidertony - August 27, 2007 06:51 PM (GMT)
How does this sound for payouts?

1st - $300
2nd- $150
3rd- $ 80
4th- $ 40

This only pulls $10 from Lino's add ins and leaves money to pay out anything else you want to pay out for. Just an idea.

Craig - August 27, 2007 07:29 PM (GMT)
Dan, we need to set a date for the meeting. Me personally, if I don't have a date set, I probably will have something come up, and not be able to make it. We probably will not be able to get everyone there as well. Maybe the first night we can get everyone there an hour or so early to go over everything.

Tony, the pay outs look good to me. I just hope that it matters. :D

dboy131 - August 27, 2007 08:11 PM (GMT)
Can everyone make it this Saturday at Lino's? I'd like to get it done. Or even this Thursday, though I know it's short notice. Tony I'll call you and let you know my payout breakdown idea.

timmyp - August 28, 2007 01:02 AM (GMT)

I think Tom perked up at the movie promo.

dboy131 - September 4, 2007 04:21 PM (GMT)
Something like that. To those that I didn't see at the LEDA captains meeting, the schedules are set and we will start September 13th. Good luck to all and thank you for participating. Hope everyone enjoys themselves and plays well. It makes for fun matches.

Dboy

Lisa and Michelle are working Thursdays now. Kristin quit Lino's from what I hear.
