Nepenthe Academy
because the world has seen enough of Hogwarts.

Nepenthe Academy is a progressive school nestled into the countryside of Switzerland. Our professors are the best in the region and they train our students to go beyond the words in textbooks. Our population is quite cosmopolitan with many of our professors and students coming from the farthest reaches of the world.

So, I am sure you are wondering why you have not heard of this place if its so spectacular. Propaganda, my friends - it is what keeps you from knowing only about select schools such as Hogwarts. It is the slandering words of the Ministry of Magic that keeps you from attending any other school.

But it is not all false accusations, Nepenthe has its dark secrets like anyone else - like everyone else. For one, our founders were foolish enough to build the school on the remains of a coal mine. A haunted one at that; the mine was flooded one day and the miners were trapped inside. The contractor thought it would be more expensive to dig the miners out than hire new ones. It took seven hours for them to die. Something the real estate agent tactfully left out and the construction of the castle commenced.

Even now the Ministry continues to fight to have the school closed down because of their belief that the Headmistress is unsuited to even be around students. It is no secret that the Headmistress is the estranged daughter of a particular dark lord that has been the bane of wizard and muggle existence. But note the term estranged - a word the Ministry always fail to hear. Seems fitting for a school that accepts the rest of the world's outcasts and leftovers to have it run by an outcast as well.

Regardless of our unflattering rumors, our doors are always open to welcome all those who are in need of refuge. So step through our doors and see what you make of us...

The Inquisition

With the recent deaths of students and muggles near the campus of Nepenthe Academy, it was the last straw for the Ministry. For years they had been keen on closing down the school for good, but all of their evidence prior had been built up entirely on just personal speculation, prejudice, and superstition. Now they have something solid to hold against the Academy's faculty. And without a moment's hesitation, not even a pause for mid-morning tea, they wrote up a loophole-proof order for the arrest of the school's Headmistress. A date for the preliminary hearings have yet to be set, but the charges have already been drawn up: (including, but not limited to) housing dangerous members of society, withholding such information about said dangerous person(s) from the Ministry of Magic, not investigating the rumors about a Deatheater settlement on school grounds (which will be investigated by the Ministry before the final trials), allowing students to be taught the forbidden arts of Necromancy and rites of ancient witchcraft, .. the list is likely to go on.

The Ministry has yet to actually carry through with her arrest and removal from the school, but will no doubt do so when a date is set for the preliminary hearings. A temporary Headmaster will be chosen to supervise the activities of the school during such a time.

Also, the Ministry has ordered that all professors and students will be investigated as well. Faculty and students are asked to have their papers ready and be able to prove themselves either human or certifiably safe members of society (must be proven through certificates obtained through psychological tests - if you do not have your certificate you will be processed through such psychological tests among others the Ministry has recently developed).

The Ministry regrets having to cause such a disruption in the learning atmosphere of the school and asks students to pay not much mind to them and carry on with their studies as best to their ability. The Ministry also thanks the Academy's residents in advance for their cooperation.

But there are things the Ministry should fear instead. A force is rising beneath the wizarding world, and it is beyond the comprehension of even the Dark Lord himself. Such a shadow that threatens to rip the thin veil between the wizard and muggle worlds, and crumble institutions away to dust. As the world we knew falls to rubble, another one rises up in its place. The only question is who will survive this cataclysm. The world over will hear the cry of a new evil. A new era...
