Last year we played with an impromptu AHL team and a system meant for veterans... of course it wasn't going to happen...
At least this year there's a kid-friendly system and a more cohesive younger unit.

I dont know if I have enough patience for 'gradual'.
And where was the mention of Comeau or Bailey?

The future is now! Too bad we missed FILATOV! Worried he wouldn't be able to get to the US! BS! They were hoping he'd drop as low as the Russian the Rags grabbed and the geniuses probably thought that they could get him at 17, trading down and getting more picks along the way. Well in 2 preseason games he had 2 goals and a shootout goal! Top of the line talent!
Management has a better plan. They had their eye on Bailey from jump. They know more than eveyone else! Super Geniuses!
Craving_the_Cup_Since_1992 - October 7, 2008 08:19 PM (GMT)
TWO preseason goals?! We should trade everything for him now because clearly he will be the next Ovechkin, or Gretzky. Forget Filatov. Sometimes the people who are pulling the trigger actually do know more about what they're doing than those of us who are watching.

LETS TALK SUNDAY
WHY KNOCK 2 PRE-SEASON GOALS
HOW MANY DID WONDERCHILD POT???
I KNOW I KNOW

Craving_the_Cup_Since_1992 - October 7, 2008 08:27 PM (GMT)
It's friggin' preseason. A time when most teams aren't playing their full NHL rosters. Take it with a grain of salt. Now show me some good numbers DURING the season and then we can revisit this. Filatov's TWO preseason goals don't prove anything about Bailey, just as this "excuse" won't prove anything to some posters.
Drop the damn puck, and let's talk in December over which was the wrong move.
4CUPZ - October 7, 2008 09:30 PM (GMT)
WASNT TALKING ABOUT BAILEY
Webb20 - October 7, 2008 10:13 PM (GMT)
I know who you're talking about. :P
If I were a bettin' man, and I am (think I have a $20 riding on something with Puckhead), I'd put money on Bailey having more NHL games played than Filatov come March.
And Craving, you're absolutely right, pre-season is just that and NOT the season, otherwise Frans Nielsen would be on pace for 35 goals and 75 points and be tied for team lead with Trevor Smith, who didnt make the team out of camp (now there is an injustice).

Isn't saying much for the National Hockey League's talent pool if that's the case...
Numbers65 - October 8, 2008 02:18 AM (GMT)
I hope Bailey is a star and he can produce in the NHL like he did in Juniors. BUT the reason that at his age he may play more games at this level this year than Filatov is because for the first time since their inception, the Jackets are WAY more talent laden than the Isles. Bailey will play because we have a spot for him due to our lack of depth, especially at center. We definately need Silly back though, because our face off stats are horrible! Joe Vas was the next best faceoff guy we had and he is gone.
Let's hope with some good coaching and chemistry we can see some miracles.
Let's go Islanders!!! :isles:

CBJ has PLENTY of room on that roster for Filatov. If he were healthy, he'd have a spot on that roster and would be on the same line as Nash...no problem.
His issue is a broken leg which might keep him out for a significant amount of time.

If Nikita Filatov does not make the Columbus Blue Jackets, he may have to start the season in the American Hockey League instead of the Ontario Hockey League. The OHL Sudbury Wolves are trying to secure a release from the Russian Hockey Federation, but they have not been successful in doing so. The Canadian Hockey League, which oversees the OHL, does not want to risk hurting it's relationship with the International Ice Hockey Federation by allowing Filatov to play without Russia's permission. Filatov is still in the hunt for the Blue Jackets final roster spot and this would all be moot if he makes their opening day roster |
So I guess he'll make the NHL roster. I thought at 18 you cant go to the AHL.

Excatly...I thought you had to be 20, which is why Bailey couldn't go to the AHL and has to go to his junior team if they don't see what they want on an NHL level.

This article has to be wrong. It doesn't make sense.

Isn't it different in Filitov's case because technically he played professional hockey in Russia?
As opposed to Bailey who still has junior eligibility here in NA?
I think the exception is players overseas who've played in pro leagues.
The NHL created these rules to protect north american junior teams.
