Title: Eklund's latest Nonsense
Description: Comrie going????

bringbackziggy - August 27, 2008 10:36 PM (GMT)
Apparently the Islanders are (e4) for Brett Hedican, (e3) for Parrish still, (e2) for Patrice Brisbois, and (e1) for Jim Dowd, Jeff Hamilton, and Martin Gelinas...

I guess it makes sense for a rebuilding team to be considering all these aging veterans...Eklund is a genius

Dark Helmet - August 28, 2008 03:19 AM (GMT)
I'd rather have Parrish than Hedican, good grief.

You wouldnt want to see Kristi Yamaghuchi here???

Considering we have 9 veterans over the age of 30, what kind of "rebuilding" is going on here any way?

There will be far less vets on this team next season. Having the vets on this team this year is merely window dressing to convince the season ticket holders they are really trying to make an attempt to make the playoffs.

They know full well that their options are limited and must build through the draft. And, UNFORTUNATELY, it means putting a team out there that isn't going to win many games.

Before the masses start crying over this philosophy, ask yourself this question: Do you really think this team can win with a string of fourth liners masquerading as second and third liners?

Absolutely not.
That would be a step backward from the 3rd liners masquerading as 1st & 2nd liners.

You are correct. The term "youth movement" pertains to a process that will infuse youth over the course of the next 2-3 years. This years team needs the vets like Guerin/Weight etc to help the guys management feels (Tambellini, Bergenheim, Comeau, Okposo etc) need the vet leadership till they themselves can assume those roles.

At least that is my take.

I think we all know this deep down inside no matter how optimistic, pessimistic or indifferent our feelings are about where this team, org is heading in terms of direction.

Mike Comrie to the Hawks (e2)

Sources are telling me that the Blackhawks continuing search for a second line center may have led to discussions regarding Mike Comrie who has been sort of stuck on the third line on the Island...

EDIT:

Ok, so I went to blackhawks boards and found this thread.
Could this be where rumor started?

For a first rounder?

I would do it.

sybo - October 17, 2008 05:32 PM (GMT)
funny this came up today...because last night I had the strong feeling minus mike will get traded at some point well before the deadline. How ironic.

IslandersWin86 - October 17, 2008 05:52 PM (GMT)
Now would be a great time, he's got 2 goals in 4 games...value is high.

For a first rounder of the B-Hawks, a team that with 2 key injuries could be in the tank I would absolutely do it.

bringbackziggy - October 17, 2008 06:13 PM (GMT)
I would only do it right now if we get a 1st rounder in return because most likely he will have greater value the deadline so the only way I do this is if I'm blown away by an offer right now.

EDIT:

Cam Barker is an intriguing prospects that I woud probably accept in a trade also.

Maybe. Or if you send him to Chicago with plenty of season left, the value might be more to the Blackhawks than at the deadline.

Andy - October 17, 2008 06:34 PM (GMT)
Ship him out if they're seriously offering a first rounder. Bad attitude won't last long here anyway. Get another building block!

for Khabib and a 1st rounder.

that way DP can take the extended rehab stint he obviously needs.

Andy - October 17, 2008 06:48 PM (GMT)
Haha on that Hawks message board they're talking about Yashin.

Webb20 - October 17, 2008 08:40 PM (GMT)
Stuck on the 3rd line on a team without a clear 1st or 2nd line, and with 2 goals and 3 points doesnt really sound "stuck" to me.

Rebuilding or not you just dont trade away Mike Comrie who provides to what little offense we have now. The guy can play, why not just enjoy him as an Islander and sign him for a few more years. He contributes on a regular basis, generally it's what you want on YOUR team. And regular contributors on the Islanders have become rare.

Keep him.

ronski631 - October 17, 2008 09:41 PM (GMT)
i'd like to see Sharp in exchange but doubful.

i'd say hang onto him until the trade deadline

I agree 100% you need vet players. You need a special kind of vet, one that knows what it takes to win and doesn't mind teaching kids, the Weights, Witts and the Guerins of the world are that type of vet.

You need them to instill on the young guys that losing is NOT ok and that loafing even for a shift is not acceptable. We didn't have that in the late 90's when we went only with kids and vets looking for a free ride, which is why it hasn't worked in the past. It didn't work for the rangers either.

Which brings us to Comrie...

works hard, has grit, but disappears for long stretches. Tough call, you need scoring so the kids aren't discouraged, but his loafing is not a trait you want to see taught to the youngins

For me, I would treat this trade as any other.....are we getting something solid in return? If not, don't make the deal. If they offer a player that fits our rebuilding model.....do it.
