Title: Your Non-Dynasty All-Favorites NYI Team
Description: It's August ...
5-9-19-22-23-31 - August 15, 2008 05:12 PM (GMT)
I'd like to hear from posters who their all-time non-dynasty Islanders are. You can pick your favorites, or pick your all stars, or whatever, but pick two forward lines, two pair of defensemen, and two goalies. None of your picks should have won a ring with the Islanders.
For me:
C: Pat LaFontaine, Michael Peca (sorry, Cliff Ronning and Ray Ferraro)
LW: JP Parise, Billy Harris
RW: Ziggy Palffy, Pat Flatley
D: Bert Marshall, Dave Lewis, Adrian Aucoin, Darius Kasparitis
G: Kelly Hrudey, Rick DiPietro
MMingE - August 15, 2008 06:16 PM (GMT)
C: Pierre Turgeon, Ray Ferraro
LW: Derek King, Steve Thomas
RW: Zigmund Palffy, Ed Westfall
D: Kenny Jonsson, Rich Pilon, Scott Lachance, Brendan Witt
G: Glenn Healy, Chris Osgood

R Palffy, Westfall
L JP Parise, Wendell Clark--too bad we got him 10 years too late
D Kurvers, Kasper, Norton, Witt
G Fitzpatrick, Hrudey

1975 thru 1979 :isles: were not to shabby
gdprof27 - August 15, 2008 11:08 PM (GMT)
I was always impressed with Doug Crossman in the 89-90 season. He provided the veteran leadership on that team, helping guys like Norton and Pilon develop into the players that they were in '93, was 3rd in scoring and helped us make the playoffs that year...albeit with a below .500 record.
Had to love that old divisional playoff system!
Dr. Generosity - August 16, 2008 12:46 AM (GMT)
At center (no way I can limit it to two here):
Sneaky Pete
Huuubie!
Scatch
Lappy
On the port side:
Woody
Ben-wah Hogue!
Wendel Clark
Allier droit:
Bobby Bassen
Stumpy
On the backline:
Bergevin
Kaspar
Vlad
Aucoin
Witt
Backstop:
Hrudey
Salo!

Jesus Christ, I loved Wendel Clark
He was one tough sonavabitch and could put the puck in the net and Hit, Hit, Hit

:isles: Center Turgeon Lafontaine
RW Flatley Palffy
LW Thomas King
D Aucoin Jonsson Krupp Kasparitis

Other favorite forwards were Webb, Thomas and Hogue
defense....Jonsson and Vaske
goalie would have to be Hrudey
LEDZEP - August 17, 2008 01:54 PM (GMT)
Hrudey, "He's on ya, he's on Ya"
That was a regular part of his game
As much as DP letting in that one easy goal per game. :isles:

I never understood the love of Flats. He would lose a race with a Zamboni he's so slow. He was always behind the rush. Was good in the corners, but only if he could get there in time. He had a great first 1/4 of a season and playoff for us in 84, but I felt he never lived up to the hype.

I agree 100%. Never thought he was very good. You see what happens when you score on your very first shot in the NHL. You get a lifetime job and become captain.

Well, my mom liked him, and he was at Wisconsin when I was there.
In our household, I was for Trottier, my sister was for LaFontaine, and my mom was for Flatley. We'd tease her about how slow he was.
My father was for duck and cover when these discussions took place.

HMMMM MY HOUSEHOLD
LETS SEE
DAD WAS SMITH AND GILLIES
HE LOVED GUYS WHO COULD WALK THE WALK AND BACK UP THE TALK
MOM LOVED AL
SHE DIDNT HAVE TO SEE THE SCORE SHE'D WATCH HIM AND KNEW IF IT WAS A GOOD NIGHT OR A TOUGH NIGHT. THE MORE HE TUGGED AT HIS GLASSES THE MORE PISSED HE WAS GETTING.
MY MIDDLE SISTER LOVED BOBBY CLARKE AFTER THAT HAD NO USE FOR HOCKEY
MY YOUNGEST SISTER STARTED OUT LOVING STEVE VICKERS AND PHIL ESPOSITO
THEN SHE CAME OVER FROM THE DARK SIDE
FIRST SHE LIKED TONELLI AND LIKE ALL TEENS WENT GAGA OVER LAFONTAINE
ME I LIKE ANYONE IN OUR COLORS
SOME MORE THAN OTHERS
WHEN I GAVE BILLY MCMILLAN A RIDE ON MY BIKE FROM RTE 110 TO RACQUET AND RINK
AFTER HE SCORED A GOAL THE NIGHT BEFORE
AND AS WE ARRIVED TORREY WAS OUTSIDE
AND YELLS AT HIM "IF YOU HAVE A LIMO I'M PAYING YOU TOO MUCH"
WAS ALWAYS A CHICO FAN TILL HIS CHOKING STARTED TURNING ME OFF AND WHEN HE PULLED THE PLAY ME OR TRADE ME IT WAS ADIOS AFTER CUP 1
THEN BACKED THE MAN WITH THE BLACK STICK AND ALL THE BLING

:isles: Flats was o.k., but teamates seemed to rally around him. Hell Nystrom wasnt very good he made a living off of one goal.

Randy Wood, Stumpy, Pilon and LaPointe too. Played his heart out every game.

6 20 goal seasons for Nystrom and one 30 goal season (77) and one all star appearance (77). That is all far superior to Flats and more than a guy "living off one goal".
BTW- he scored twice in game 6.

Wendell had 20+ (28?) goals for that horrid isles team by the time he was traded back to TO, despite missing at least 10 games to Injury, what a warrior he was.

Right on.
Nystrom scored MANY big goals…
OT game 4 vs. Rangers 1979
OT game 2 vs. Sabres 1980
OT game 6 vs. Flyers 1980-cup winning goal
…and played a key part in MANY big Islanders play-off goals along this career.
