you know, throw mccabe into the mix on D, and this "rebuilding" team might have some real potential.
It wouldn't exactly be depriving a young'n of a spot.

Really? How do you figure that? Oh they won't sit Campy or Gervis right...they'll sit Witt, Martinek, Sutton or maybe our new 4mil a yr guy Striet?

I don't exactly see Bruno Gervais as a player we're going to build around.
Just because he's young doesn't mean he has real potential. He'll likely be gone by the time this rebuilding mold is over.

I would guess your in the minority as far as the org goes....the guy is going into his 3rd season and just signed a 3 year deal, so while I might agree that he hasn't done anything to prove he's a building block. The team thinks he is so unless they are including Campy or Gervis in this trade, there is no room at the inn for McCabe.

Let Gervais sit in the press box. This would only make our team better in my opinion. Let Campoli and Gervais fight it out in camp.
This isn't the same as sitting one of our young scoring forwards. With McCabe we get good defense with him ALSO putting up numbers. Gervais is good in the defensive end and can move the puck but McCabe is just better.
And for freddy IV and a 4th rounder? No brainer in my opinion. You take that deal. This could all be BS but it would be a good trade for us. We have the cap space.

McCabe is better than almost all of our defensemen. If there's cap room and by gosh, there is, do the trade.

How many wins does having McCabe in over say Campy or Gervis and the extra 12 goals he'll provide? maybe 4-6 wins? Improving the team by 4-6 wins this season isn't my goal. If these McCabe of 5yrs ago and he was going tobe here for hte next 5-6 years...then yes trade for him at that price and sit Sutton/Gervis or Campy but too get McCabe for 2 yr's does not make this team that much better IMO.

I don't dispute that...I prefer to go with what we have, grab Tavares, and then get serious about the following year...this year's team is no better than last year's...and anyone who thinks otherwise, I got a big bridge here on LI to sell them

While I agree this team isn't that much better then last years, although the PP should be better....I have a bridge on LI to sell you if you think we'll be in the running for Trvares unless we have as many guys out do to injury. this team was still in contention in January and if DP and the Defense doesn't go down we'd have been 8-11 last year.

you know what? this bothers me. there's being realistic about the isles chanes this year (incredibly slim), and then there's being defeatist.
Even though the W/L record will most likely be poor, that still doesn't mean I don't expect to see exciting hockey.

I'm with you there Timo. We'll see some great hockey. It's gonna be like watching your kids grow up and get better at the sport they play. They may need the practice early on but as long as the effort is there you can be proud, then as their skills develop they become good. I was impatient when my sons were young, now I have one of the best college roller hockey players around and a fine developing High School ice hockey player. It's quite rewarding watching them play and worth the wait. I hope and expect the same from this young Islanders club that will show more and more promise as our draft picks start to gain experience.

I read somewhere that mccabe gets a 2 mil bonus of some type on sept 1st
therefore , any team trading for him will want to wait until sept 2nd to aquire him so they are not on the hook for the 2 mil bonus
they would get him for 4 ish as opposed to 6 ish for 08-09

I'm with you 100% timo. Gervais is nothing special and anybody who thinks that he's better than McCabe should have their head examined. Bruno Gervais is a zero offensively and he's okay defensively. I'm sick of hearing about him he's not a core player.
