Title: Hatcher?

Hmmm....maybe not a bad option for 1 year?

COURIER POST ONLINE: Chuck Gormley reports the Flyers re-signing of Jeff Carter pushed their payroll over $51 million, meaning GM Paul Holmgren will have to pare down payroll if he's to re-sign Randy Jone, Riley Cote and Steve Eminger and still bolster his blueline. To do so would mean removing Derian Hatcher's salary and trading a veteran forward like Mike Knuble, although Hatcher is committed to returning next season and Holmgren won't buy out his contract.

SPECTOR'S NOTE: Knuble would have value on the trade market as would Joffrey Lupul. Trading Hatcher appears out of the question given his age, contract, and injury history.

But would it still be out of the question if some picks were included?

He has 1 year left at 3.5 million. Not so bad.

My apologies if this thought has been posted elsewhere. The heat has melted the hard drive in my cortex.

Just say no. The defense is slow enough. The Islanders have to start thinking about how this team will be in two years.

Just say Tavares!

Ouch! Yeah, he's not the most fleet-footed fella out there. He is a big body in front of the net and (I could be wrong) but didn't his play improve once Philly got things sorted out last season?

But maybe he's a bit too much like the worst of Sean Hill (minus the 'roids).

We have enough big bodies in front of the net...we need fleet footed skaters.

True. The question is can we get those types of players in here in a way that doesn't disrupt the youth movement? If so, great...if not...bide your time and build for the future (i.e., "the plan").

Lupol would be nice. He can fly

well if you want to guarantee an early 1st round pick next year why not make the D slower? i wonder how many 2nd and third round picks garth can get for a # 1 overall?

I bet that he can get the entire 7th round.

I'd rather bring in a guy like Jim Vandermeer as a free agent who can do a bit of everything on the back end -pretty good at dropping the mits to boot

He would be a logical pickup. Nice choice.

Add .5 to DP's GAA if we sign this huge immobile screen.
