| Kings, Penguins talking trade? TheFourthPeriod.com According to the Ottawa Sun, the Los Angeles Kings and Pittsburgh Penguins are discussing a trade that could involve Evgeni Malkin. The paper claims the Penguins have offered Malkin to the Kings for the second-overall pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft and a player believed to be Mike Cammalleri. The Penguins are trying to sign Marian Hossa, who can become an unrestricted free agent July 1, to a long-term contract extension that could cost the team upwards of $8 million per season. In order for the Penguins to accommodate Hossa's salary, they may be forced to trade Hossa, the Sun suggests. Kings GM Dean Lombardi has confirmed that he's received two offers for the No.2 pick, but as of last night, he expects to keep the pick. "I've had two legitimate offers," Lombardi told the Sun. "I've spoken with ownership and we've agreed that we're going to build here for the long term. To trade away that draft pick, we're going to have to get a lot of value. I'm not seeing things change a whole lot (before tomorrow)." Lombardi then admitted if the right deal came along, they could pull the trigger just before the start of the draft. |
