Like seriously what reporter doesn't interview Mess before a big gm without a recorder? Bingo! It was made up by the media. There was no guarantee. Messier said like all athletes say something along the lines of "if we play our game the way we can tonight we should win".

.......and the media blew it up like only NYC media can.

I think the whole notion of guarantees is stupid anyway. So what if a player guarantees that they are going to win? What's he supposed to say? That he thinks they're going to lose?

Also, they should make a rule that Messier's guarantee in the playoffs can't be mentioned unless his guarantee after he came back to the Rangers from Vancouver is as well. The one where he guaranteed they would make the playoffs. Still waiting for that one.
