Title: Wade Dubielewicz-should the Islanders re-sign him?
Webb20 - March 31, 2008 12:34 PM (GMT)
Dubie is certainly an Islander fan's favorite and has proven to be very reliable in the backup role. He becomes a FA on July 1st. Do you think the Islanders should try to sign him and if so, do you think Dubie will signed before July 1st.
or
Should Wade Dublielewicz should try to make a name for himself, test the FA market and land a position where he'll see more work.

Dube is starting to show that he CAN be a starting netminder......Garth/Ted need to sit DP down and get him to buy into the "tandem" idea a-la Smitty/Chico, Smitty/Rollie, etc.

Undoubtedly and unequivocally...............sign this guy.
But he could be a goner if he gets more on the open market. Its gonna depend on how much dough he wants.
But clearly he has done the job when needed.
Next year, if the team plays DP less, Dubie is a fine option.

Pay him to stay. A solid back up is a HUGE asset. If Ricky shut it down after the ASG injury I'm thinking we might have been in the top 8. At first I thought it might be Shawn Bates syndrome (keep him cuz of one great moment) but the way Dubie has played lately...I'm a believer.

Let him walk and see how much he gets elsewhere, we need a vet to backup DP.
Thanks for the few weeks last year Dubie, continue those ME-ME-ME interviews,
now go make your money.

I like Dubie a lot, and would be fine if he is resigned...HOWEVER, I think it might be better for the team as a whole if we were able to get a backup with some puck handling ability. This would compliment DP's style, and add some consistency for the defenders. At times, it seemed to completly throw the "D" off, switching from Rick to Dubie.
Knight of Cups - March 31, 2008 02:22 PM (GMT)
He wants to be here and he has proven to be better than expected in certain situations. I think he has gotten better and he would be an asset.
Besides, what back up can be gotten for what he will likely be offered. He will probably take less to stay an Islander than the price an uncertain free agency would command.
:letssee:
Sign with with a raise.

I think Dubie has shown he can be a strong #2 -- sign him for a fair increase, based on what's going on in league for guys who play 15-20 games.
He's an upgrade over many "NHL experienced" keepers (remember last year?), and he seems to have the temperament to hold down the fort in #2 role. Great to see him ask to go to Bridgeport to keep the rust off -- he seems like a good team player.
If he plays 20 games next year and wins 15 of them, then we'll have a different issue.
Sign him for 2 years, $850 per, then see what comes up via BRI or FA, based on how DiPietro is holding up.

I'd sign him for a modest increase, pencil him in for 20+ games and allow DP to force Dubie into less games only if he's having a great year.

I cannot reveal my source but I'm hearing that Garth's hand was forced to replace Dunham( his buddy ) with Dubielewicz and that Garth has never believed in Wade and possibly doesn't even like the guy. Whether this has any bearing on Wade's future as an Islander is left to be seen but I thought it worthy of mentioning.
You know I never put stuff like this out there but this comes from a very reliable source with strong contacts on the team.
Take it for what it's worth. :bag:

I hope the same person that forced Garth's hand once is willing to do it again. :ph43r:

I think Dubie is a true #2 goalie. I don't think he is a true #1 goalie at the NHL level. He can give you quality minutes whenever needed. I'd offer him a slight increase but wouldn't over pay. The Isles can't ride DP as much as they have and the increase in games played would justify the increase in salary for Dubie. I agree that Dubie should get at least 20 - 25 games next year.
SPARADISO8116 - March 31, 2008 11:27 PM (GMT)
Sign him so long as the price is not outrageous.
3POTI - April 1, 2008 12:09 AM (GMT)
sign dubie for a marginal increase.
couldn't careless if snow likes him or not...how many championship teams have anyone ever really like anyone?

Uhhh...no. The Smitty-Chico tandem played 40 games each. Same with Rollie and Smitty. No offense, but there is no way Dubie is a 40 start goalie...not with Rick on the bench. No way should they get the same amount of starts.
I'll be the first to admit that Rick shouldn't be trying to start 70 games a season, not with the amount of rubber an Isles goalie faces. I think there is no reason why Dubie shouldn't get 25 starts and Rick take the rest of them. Put Rick on a 60-65 game pace and give Dubie more consistent work. The idea of letting Dubie go 2 months without a start is nonsense. No goalie, not even Broduer, would hold for 70 starts a season facing the amount of shots and defensive zone time an Isles goalie has to face.
I want the Isles to resign Dubie. In my mind he should get a raise from the 500K he's making...maybe to 750K...it's what Garth made as a backup...and try to pencil in Dubie for 20-25 starts next season.
