how can we be underdogs when we have the Tank -Vas -Hunter line.
These guys are really good together.....the 3 guys who have struggled a lot this season to produce are a powerhouse together. Let's Go Islanders and let's beat these punks and get ourselves back into contention.

I agree.

I am sort of disappointed that it is happening now... we're playing well enough to sneak in again - but I don't want another 1st round exit. :(

Cain are you serious man? Happening now??? We just won ONE game. ONE win. It is un-real what one win OUT OF 8 games is, now we can sneak in?

We would have to pass at least 5 teams! We just got our first 2 points at home in 2008!!!

If they win three in a row are we back to having a shot at the cup? I want the boys to play great and get in and win everything, but to say after we just got our first win in 8 games that is a ridiculious comment. I mean sure we played okay versus Minnesota and Pittsburgh but let's be a little objective. While most rankings mean very little, we are in the bottom 5 AND we deserve to be.

We are 13th in our conference, with us having to OUT play ALL five teams ahead of us, while we still can't score, and have a good amount of injuries.

OKay, okay - I understand what you are saying.

Being somewhat optimistic, I see that we are putting forth a consistent effort again (last three games.)

My statement could be read like this:

If they continue to play this way, they have a chance to get back in.

We have two games against the Rangers yet - their in. We make up a point or two on them in the last 25 games and everyone stays relatively on their same pace, we have a chance.

The trade deadline is not the end of the season.

On injuries, and the announcement of them</font><BR><BR>

After a meeting at the Plainview office this morning, I got word that Garth would like me to get over to Iceworks for practice as soon as possible. I already knew about Chris Simon, but figured maybe it was related to that. Nope. Maybe it was news on Brendan Witt. No. (Should have an update Thursday). As usual, it was what I least expected.
<BR><BR>
Turns out the league was looking into the matter of us not properly disclosing an injury. When I heard this, I was shocked. I didn't even know what player the league could have been talking about. Garth said it had something to do with Bruno Gervais.
<BR><BR>
Now, I love Bruno. I always say it: if I had a daughter, she could marry him. Incredible kid. Real good young defenseman who's going to get even better. But what possibly could be controversial about Bruno Gervais? Was it THAT slow a day at the NHL office? (Just kidding).
<BR><BR>
I spoke with the league and cleared up the misunderstanding. The league thought we "refused to disclose" Gervais' injury on Tuesday. What went wrong is they only saw a report from yesterday morning and didn't know that we officially announced what was ailing Bruno around 6:00 pm, an hour before faceoff.
<BR><BR>
It's important I share with the fans what I told the league today. More than anyone, you are owed an explanation of how, when and why we announce injuries.
<BR><BR>
I completely agree with the NHL's recent move to strictly enforce the proper dissemination of injuries and prognoses. The whole "upper body" and "lower body" thing was getting silly - and this is from the organization that brought you last year's classic, "general body soreness." (!)
<BR><BR>
That said, I will always believe that the media is owed a detailed injury report on a player only when that player MISSES A GAME. Let me explain.
<BR><BR>
We all know about the guts these players have. Hockey players play hurt all the time. Let's say Freddy Meyer was kept out of practice today, but we knew he was determined to play in Thursday's game in Toronto. Does it make any sense at all to tell reporters - and by extension, the fans, yes, but also the TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS - what's ailing Freddy? Why would we put a bulls-eye on a wrist, his back or his shoulder?
<BR><BR>
Why give the Leafs even the slightest competitive advantage?
<BR><BR>
More than that, why put Freddy unnecessarily in harm's way?
<BR><BR>
I'm using Freddy as an example. He's not hurt and is playing tomorrow. As some of you know, he did gut out a big chunk of the second half of last season with a finger as twisted as an Auntie Anne's pretzel.
<BR><BR>
Bruno is injured. Heading into yesterday's game, Ted Nolan told reporters he would be a "game-time decision." At 5:00 pm yesterday, when I realized Bruno wasn't at the rink, I informed Garth it was time to go public with an injury announcement. Our trainer Garrett Timms confirmed it was a strained oblique and by 6:00 pm, everyone reporting on the game had an accurate update. Bruno is day-to-day.
<BR><BR>
As Keith Olbermann used to say, aren't we all?
<BR><BR>

No disrespect to Witt, but I'm curious to see how well the puck movement in our zone is with him out of the lineup.
Yeah, I'm saying it, perhaps I'm getting tired of his trying to block every shot while screening his goalie.
Losing Bruno stinks but that's life.

Leafs are just as big of a Jeckyl and Hyde team as us.

Should be a good one.

Well I just read on IM that its a sprained ACL and that Witt will be out 2-4 weeks....which sounds about right... I always double what Ted says as he seems to down play the length of an injury.

I assume The Rick is in the pipes as I ahven't heard anything different...

truthfully, when I watch the leafs play other teams... they LOOK like the Islanders. They should just be called the Islanders North.

CANADA - February 14, 2008 09:47 PM (GMT)
If we're gonna get back in this, the balance of February's schedule is there for the taking.
Leaf's
Atlanta
SanJose
Washington
Tampa
Jersey
Pitt
Atlanta
Then we'll have the momentum of the core of the four weekend to kick off March.
It's gotta start tonight though !!!

stevedepot - February 14, 2008 09:52 PM (GMT)
Good points Canada.

For me personally...if Tambellini can find some confidence and consistancy
to go along with the way Comeau and Bergenheim's been playing,
it may just take some pressure off our vets who are really all teams have probably had to worry about
when preparing for us.

Bergie's been hot, Comeau's been playing well (slight mean streak too).

Heck, imagine if Guerin, Satan and co. get on a streak.
Could do wonders.
