Bryan Berard finishing ahead of Jerome Iginla in the Rookie voting. Who would've thunk?

I loved Niklas Andersson!! He was one of our better scrubs. Like Jorgen Jonsson.

I remember this season well because two of my brothers bought separate season tickets and I was the seat-filler for every game they'd miss. This was the only losing season in the 90's that I actually felt there was some small glimmer of hope for us yet. They were a streaky team, lost a gillion games in a row over the holidays and just never were able to dig themselves out of that hole despite playing relatively well.

It was just a young team that was showing some signs of progress, but the moves that Milbury had made by the deadline really made this team a lot worse. Trading Green made no sense being that they had been suffering for goal scorers, and Milbury being so hellbent for Linden that he gave up Bryan McCabe, one of the young guys that proved he had heart and soul was a crime. I liked and respected Trevor Linden for making the best of it but he wasn't nearly the player he had been a few years earlier in Vancouver. The Isles were in a position where it was still plausible to say they could've made an honest run for the final playoff spot, instead Bowness was let go, the team was shaken up and faded into oblivion. If it hadn't been for the fact that the team didn't have real owners or someone with any hockey sense in a position of prominence Milbury would've been fired that off-season and rightfully so.

I believe the trade was, we got Linden and Gino Odjick for Bertuzzi McCabe Jason Strudwick & a pick in 98 which was Jarkko Ruutu. :puke:

I thought trading Green had everything to do with Green's salary issue? :dontknow:
I recall that he was very close to sit out the beginning of the season and when he was introduced at the Coliseum at the home opener he was booed by everyone.
I have that home opener vs. Maple Leafs on VHS. The intro was very cool with green laser beams projecting every players name on the ice. B)

1998-99 season, that was...

Tommy Salo...

I have an old newsday article, of a Quebec Nordiques goaltender beating the Islanders...the goalie, Garth Snow.

It was McCabe, Bertuzzi and a 3rd round pick (Ruutu) for Linden. Odjick was a different deal.
