Title: Jason Blake
Description: Do we want him on the Roster next year
Webb20 - May 8, 2007 03:21 PM (GMT)
Time to tell the Islanders if we should be aggressive in signing Jason Blake. Coming off a 40 goal season, his best yet.
But we must consider
He'll be 34 on Sept 2nd before the season starts, so how long do should sign him for?
Will he be able to match the goal production again or was that the peak for Blake?
How much will it take him to stay and what becomes too much.
Let Garth Snow know if you want to keep him, and for how long and cost.
stevedepot - May 8, 2007 03:31 PM (GMT)
Garth, please resign this NHL superpest, goal scorer.
Does he ever take a shift off?
His stats have improved each year despite the makeup of the team.
He proved that he could work with other players and PASS the puck
and it helped propel him into a 40 goal scorer and an All-Star.
I want him back. Put him on a line with the Spezza's-Heatley's and he'll surpass the 40 goal mark.
He played this year taking turns on different lines with the likes of Yashin, Asham, Simon, Robitaille, Park, Tambellini, Comeau and Smyth.
He scored 40 goals and was the heartbeat of this team with his passion.
IslanderQueen - May 8, 2007 03:46 PM (GMT)
there are certain players that are "islanders"
he's one of them
sign him already-- i'd take him over smyth :yea:
and well-there isnt enough wine in the world to make my girl feel better if you dont
puckhead - May 8, 2007 03:48 PM (GMT)
Gotta have him back-----that is if you like guys that hustle and play their ass off.
He has shown no signs of slowing down.
But at the same time, don't give him the ranch. He's 33....No more than a 3 year deal for 12 mill.
Doubt that will be enough however to keep him.
Webb20 - May 8, 2007 03:55 PM (GMT)
Even down the stretch when they moved Blake to the 3rd line, he continued to bring the hard work and continued to produce. 1st, 2nd, 3rd line doesnt matter to him, he comes to play.

aries44475 - May 8, 2007 04:03 PM (GMT)
The real question is will he sign for less for a longer deal. I'm sure he knows he's getting older and wants to cash in. Does he go long term with a less avg or big money upfront??
Hopefully they can find a way to get it done that doesn't hamper us on either end of the deal.

His work ethic and passion for the game are second to none and he has earned what should be coming to him...3.5-4 mil/year over 3-4 years. He only seems to get better with age.

Captain Smyth - May 15, 2007 12:09 AM (GMT)
As much as I dislike him, I say yes but smytty comes first.
EricN11 - May 15, 2007 12:12 AM (GMT)
i have a feeling he's a goner.
Islanderfan4life84 - May 15, 2007 02:20 AM (GMT)
Look Jason Blake is an Islander no matter where he goes next year. He belongs in a New York Islander jersey and I hope he knows that. He made his name on Long Island and the Islanders are the ones that gave him the chance. I hope Snow offers him a fair contract and he stays because taking a guy like Blake off our team is something very difficult to replace. Jason has become a fan favorite not because he scored 40 goals but he goes outthere and works his tail off every single night. If he leaves it's going to hurt big time. I just read something that the Sharks are interested in him. Even though it's a western conf. team I still don't like the fact that he is going to tear up the nhl on another team. Anyways I am just hoping Blake comes back and helps this team continue to go in the right direction.
IslanderQueen - May 15, 2007 02:28 AM (GMT)
sh!t
he's not done
it would be a shame to see him on the highlight reels wearing anything but the :isles:
Webb20 - May 15, 2007 12:39 PM (GMT)
I think he'll sign. I have to hope the Islanders are aware of how we, the fans, view the team, Yashin's contract affects, the importance of Smyth and Blake. And I'm pretty sure if we were able to talk to Snow in confidence he would feel the same way as us and I'm sure his workings are to accomplish these goals as top priorities. What he'll be able to do is a different story, but I believe the his objective is the same as ours.
puckhead - May 15, 2007 12:54 PM (GMT)
My gut feeling is that Blake and Smyth will command insane money on the open market........and we'll be able to resign one......but not both. Just a feeling I have.
IslanderQueen - May 15, 2007 04:16 PM (GMT)
awwww....
c'mon we can have it all!!!
isleschick39 - May 15, 2007 04:29 PM (GMT)
If Blake goes anywhere, i'd rather him be in the western conference. I couldn't see myself enjoying to watch Hunter or Kozlov go running after Blake and getting beat everytime. I'd probably cry.
IslanderQueen - May 15, 2007 04:37 PM (GMT)
that would be hard to swallow.....
and i know 7th would go to the other side for pre-game...

She wouldnt dare. :nono:
But then again, Blake might warm up to her being he'd only be at the coliseum once in a blue moon and she would be less threatening ominous. :D
IslanderQueen - May 15, 2007 06:54 PM (GMT)
oh we couldnt keep her from "the other side"
but she'd be by herself...
CapeBretonIslander - May 15, 2007 11:05 PM (GMT)

it just better be a jersey I look good in... that's all I've got to say.
Besides... that little bug can't get rid of me THAT easy...
I've got connections. I'd still keep tabs on him. But I tell you right now...
He'd miss me. Everyone misses their mother when they leave home.
Now... if you'll excuse me... I need a tissue...

YES..
Blake should stay at a fair and reasonable price and everyone will be happy, and all will be right with the world.

it would.

I'm thinking if Smyth signs, Blake will lower his demands.
It might (okay, a little wishful here) help with Bergie.
Otherwise, I can see Bergie getting traded.

I see a chance for both - but my instincts tell me Blake will be more inclined to sign if Ryan is here than not.
Bergie, well, he needs to fire his agent.
Both of them not here next year? Possible, though I think it is 50-50.
Right now, I care about Hunter. I see him as a Betruzzi in the making and I love how he plays.
I'd like to see Jason back, even finish his career here, but I'm not him and I don't know what he wants.

He has ups and downs, but he never lets up on the D and checking.
