Title: Rate the Islanders - Alexei Yashin

Webb20 - April 26, 2007 01:48 PM (GMT)
We all have our opinion about Alexei Yashin. Let the management know how you feel about him. It's your chance to voice what you think.

You think his pre-injury play was good? You think he finished strong? You think he wasnt the leader he should have been?

Lets rate him since he's been the topic of conversation of late with talk of Buyout.

I voted C.

The first half of the season Alexei Yashin was a LEADER and earned that C on his jersey.
His timely goals, body checks, backchecking and hunger for getting to loose pucks was refreshing to see and all of us were on the bandwagon.

The last half of the season and short postseason he seemed to be skating with a deployed parachute harnessed to him that slowed him up.
He looked like a dark haired righty shooting Mikko Makela out there.

he wore the C this year and for some of the season on the ice he did it proud and then he
simply could not regain that fire.

C it is and I hope he's not a C rating next as well as wearing it.

Sorry Alexei, the time has come.

C+ == The first 2 months were great. The only problem: THE SEASON IS 6 MONTHS, NOT 2.

$7.6 mil for a C+. Not good enough. Bye Bye.

puckhead - April 26, 2007 02:53 PM (GMT)
I agree........I give him a C+ only because he got hurt.

However a man with his talent and ability should be able to notch an 'A' with no problem. This guy has never even come close to that grade.

Goodbye Alexei.

Keep Yashin but strip the C away from him. Everyone knows if the Islanders do buy him out, he'll go out and have a breakout year and probably become an Islander killer. I know he hasn't done much but maybe he has to much on his plate with him being looked at as the captain. If we do resign smyth, give it to him and let yashin play his game. Good things will come. I remember every Islander fan I know was all pumped when he came here and its funny how people turn there back on him once things go wrong. Yash is a world class player and happens to be a nice guy also but he is not a captain. Give him 1 more year and see what happens when he does not have the C. He wants to win just as badly as us so lets see what happens. I know he has not earned the money he is getting but it's not like he doesn't care. Yashin was having a big season until he got hurt which hurt his numbers. Who knows if he was even good to go when he came back. Lets stick behind him because he puts on the jersey that we have all grown to love.

Once things go wrong?

I've defended him for 6 seasons and this year I've had enough.
I completely understand the injury this year but why is it that so many
hockey players can turn up the intensity despite being hampered by an injury
and Alexei just can't muster anything?

I understand why people are upset with him but look what Nolan has done with this team. He has gotten the most out of everyone on this team. If Yashin never got hurt, think about the numbers. Of course he could have gone cold but look what he did. Unless we can trade him, then I want to see him back next year. Think about this. If he came back and had a big year, would you go back to liking him? or would you still want him off the team? i think deep down most of us would miss him if he left. remember he is one of the guys that really turned this team around from the terrible 00-01 team to the 01-02. that 01 summer was one of the most exciting summers I can remember. Yashin, Peca, Snow, Osgood ect.

Before injury A
After injury C

If he can sustain himself like he did before injury keep him. If he is gonna give us after injury preformance, goodbye. If he does stay remove the "C" and give it to Ryan Smyth.

Sal

uh....yea

Is he they type of players that will lead us to a Conference championship and get us into the Cup finals? I asked myself that question and drew my conclusions from my answer.

Yeah that summer was five summers ago.......its time to move on WITHOUT this guy.

Islanderfan4life84 - April 26, 2007 03:27 PM (GMT)
sorry you feel that way. in the end we all know Wang loves this guy and he'll be on the team next year.

CapeBretonIslander - April 26, 2007 03:48 PM (GMT)
Even though he did put some points on the board at the first half of the season he was far from being great.
At 7.6 mill a season he better be great every time he steps on the ice and he wasnt, far from it!
He is not and never was a captain, I can't understand why the C was never taken away from the man or why it was even given to him!

Now a guy like Yashin is good to have on your team and wouldnt hurt your team if he was payed 2 million a year but at 7.6 million, his effort and play is a disgrace and an emberassment.

The damage is somewhat done but the organization can salvage a little bit buying him out and moving on.

I gave him a c+ because Yashin is a C+ hockey player that should be payed a C+ salary

Captain Smyth - April 28, 2007 02:00 AM (GMT)
I had to give him a C, if he wasn't so good before the injury I would of gave him an F.

With or without the injury Yashin needs to go, and come playoff time, he's a better magician than David Blaine, just seems to disappear the face of the earth.
