Title: Game Experience
Description: Rate how the Isles present the games

Webb20 - December 7, 2006 02:39 PM (GMT)
Tell the Islanders how you enjoy the Coliseum experience.

Please only rate what goes on in the coliseum and not the concourse such as food and bathrooms as they are not under the control of the NY Islanders.

Add you comments on what could make the experience more enjoyable between whistles and during intermission.

Didn't he tell you?

If he successfully completes 8 surveys and gets 10 friends to complete the surveys and then they get 10 friends to complete the surveys they're gonna send him a brand new Ipod :P

During the Sen game, that video with all the guys favorites was great! Kozlov said Madonna

stevedepot - December 7, 2006 03:18 PM (GMT)
I voted VERY POOR.

During the late 70's, early 80's it was a great thing to have SCORE-O betwen periods.
3 lucky fans would get an opportunity to take a shot from center ice or blue line to
score on a little 10 inch hole (no jokes please you dirty minded bastards) through a board placed over the hockey net.

The fun was seeing the guys who never picked up a hockey stick before. Just from their stance you could tell they were going to shoot waaaay wide to left.
Very rarely someone would get it real close or even get it in and that was very exciting since they'd win a car or trip.

The Young hostess going through the crowd with the bubbly voice is annoying.
Young men behave like idiots and it promotes the chauvenistic dark side of society.
The last time i saw some drunken idiot run up and kiss her on the cheek and she was not too pleased.

The girls shooting T-shirts from the Zambonis is great.
The between plays interviews and anouncements on the center ice screen are nice but you can never understand WTF anyone is saying. I'd love to JUST see highlights from around the NHL.
Big goals, big hits. Also, how about more kid friendly snippets?

A heck, the hell with those flying blimp advertisements...bring back Score-O!!!

islesdave - December 7, 2006 03:30 PM (GMT)
More highlights - big hits, great goals and great saves videos please. We can do without Radek trying to say something in English. The know your islanders stuff is funny.

Pete, I hear they finally remodeled the NYI store. How'd it come out? And how's the stock?

NYIsles84 - December 7, 2006 04:03 PM (GMT)
havent remodeled it yet...everything in the store is brand new stock though...there waiting for the remodel till after the holidays since it would close us down for 3-4 weeks and this season we do major sales. problem is we have enough sock and new merchandise to fill a store thats double to almost triple the size it is now...and there is nowhere to put it.

IslanderQueen - December 7, 2006 04:04 PM (GMT)
cant wait to go shopping.....

I think they are ok... The music peeves me sometimes, because they play stuff that is JUST NOT HOCKEY MUSIC!

Is it me, or is Dina growing? (will stop there - you do the math).

it is ok.

Hmmmm,
"Hockey Music"

"Let's Go Bang" - Jennifer Love Hewitt
"Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting" - Elton John
"The Save" - Jeff Lang

naaaah, the hard rock is great, fires em up...or should.

I think now that Dina has a uniform she wears a bra that works/supports that uniform. Before sometimes she'd be more larger then other nights based on the outfit. Just my $.02 and I'm sure one of the ladies of the board might be able to answer better then I.

I voted Very Good.

I'm a fan of the concept of mind that when you go to a sporting event, you should be there to watch that sporting event. Which is why I hate tons of restaurants, rock climbing walls, swimming pools and other ridiculous stuff that's popped up in pro sports over the years. One of the reasons Yankee Stadium always looks so packed. Camden yards sells a good amount of tickets but half the fans are out shopping in the outfield during the game to make noise or cheer.

So, I like that about Nassau Coliseum. I think they could do better on the jumbo tron. I think most of us prefer more big hits, saves, goals up there. I dont' mind most of the Islander stuff up there but I think we could get more creative. Constant hate-mongering about the rags is something we should definitely do. Get more of that going. I went to that last game against teh Capitals over Thanksgiving weekend. If I was in charge I would've had Dale Hunter's hit on Turgeon on the screen about 200 times before the game to enrage the fans into a bloodlust. Why the heck not? I think stuff like that is great. And it's not so bad to frighten children. All they'll know is the place where the New York Islanders play is really loud and they'll remember that.

I also like the pee wee hockey in between periods. I always get a kick out of that.

Music needs overhaul. I don't know how many times I heard people around me at the games saying "this is not hockey music" or "this song sucks/is gay" etc.

I remember a few games years ago that I went to where there was a live band up there performing between periods. I'm not against that, especially if they're a local LI band and they rock. Why not? It might foster some hometown pride.

Lastly, I want a dedicated beer vendor in my section so I don't have to miss the game and go to the counter anymore (sorry Webby I had to get that in there) :yea:

OK everyone.
In order to give my opinion on this subject, I’m going to reveal something that might draw some BOOs from the crowd.
Back during the days when I used to go to the old garden there were no flying blimps,
no loud irritating music during play stoppages, no mascots running around and no on ice circus acts. It was down and dirty HOCKEY. Intermission entertainment was that of organ music and only organ music. I know times have changed since I paid under 2 bucks with my GO Card (student organization) to get in. All we went to see was a hockey game. Today, I feel we see a hockey game in-between everything else going on.

IslanderQueen - December 7, 2006 05:25 PM (GMT)
no boo's

i kinda agree

sad to say...i dont think its as high quality as it could be but thats part of my feelings on the building too...i'd like to be able to walk to my seats without worrying if i am going to trip on a broken brick in the middle of the walk way or set my purse down and have (beer-mustard-ketchup...I could go on and on) on my purse or my coat if it hits the floor...

its fun but its not my favorite part of the game...sometimes i watch the "acts" off the ice and just laugh....

I'm with you signguy. However, those times are gone. People want this "family environment" and so on and so forth. If we didn't do it, we'd be lacking compared to all the other teams, so we have to do it. It's not a matter of should we or shouldn't we have all this intermission stuff, it's WHAT do we have as our intermission stuff.

I can live with all the dumbsh*t that we do during games just so long as we win. Besides the uniform changing bs is far more of a concern of mine.

I put down good for these reasons...

Our PA announcer sucks. He seems like he has no energy when he announces a goal. Remember back in the day when the Isles had Turgeon and Co. He used to be like Isllander goal scored by Piiiieeerrree Tuurrrrrrrrggeoonnnnn he used to have energy. This guy sucks. He has no energy in his voice it seems like he is there to collect the paycheck.

Unless they start playing the chicken dance again get rid of the Organ, that thing is useless. I hate it.

Even though the animation is good, get a different "pre game" video. I like how the video shows the day in the life of a Long Islander. Wake up at 6 catch the train into the city and then 500 rolls around, time to goto the Islander game. I feel that could be a little better. Something inspiring. If I had a choice, use the video they had on opening nite going through the Islander history.

DannyBinTennessee - December 8, 2006 04:00 PM (GMT)
I dig the organ. Played by Eddie Leyton, the same guy that plays at yankee stadium for the past 40+ years or so.

Other things can change, but the organ? That just seems sacriligous to me

isleschick39 - December 8, 2006 04:28 PM (GMT)
alright...well, i've been going to games for years & years and i've seen a downfall to the "entertainment" between whistles.

dina is obnoxious and an airhead who shouldnt have that job...the ice girls are a waste of time (the players did just fine back in the day with ice left by teh goals) and its degrading to them, whether they realize it or not.

also, what is with this no chicken dance or happy and you know it not being played anymore? its a long time tradition to play those songs and get all the fans riled up. stupid wang banished the chicken dance because "kids arent supposed to be hearing that stuff" well guess what wang...then maybe your kids shouldnt go to professional sports games. it happens, idiot.

what else? what else? oh yes, i feel like all the promotions and billboards and all the other junk is too geared towards children. thats fine, i understand that maybe on a saturday there are more kids likely to watch teh game and thats fine, but why dont they gear stuff towards college aged students, who are potentially buying tickets, and promote things they like?

im 22 and i feel like i'm stuck watching the 1980's highlights (which i unfortunately wasnt around for and cant really appreciate) or watching little kids bouncing around on the board. i just think that puts a damper on my game experience that i never have anything to relate to.

Who should have Dina's job if not her? As for the cleaning of the ice..that was mandated by the league a few years back and teams took this as an avenue to make it more marketable then have 4 shmoes go out there and do it. I like that the ice girls this year seem to be enjoying there skating time on the ice by doing moves and highlighting there skills. They are our version of cheerleaders...if your against them in football as well then I guess we can agree to disagree. But its not like the islanders said hey lets put 6 girls on the ice to clean the ice because more people will show up for it, league mandated and they added there own twist to a job that needed to be done.

Webb20 - December 8, 2006 06:13 PM (GMT)
The Isles were the first to bring in Ice Girls. And judging by the fact that most if not all the teams have some version of them, I'd say it was a pretty successful idea.

QUOTE
its degrading to them
In your mind it may be degrading to them, but they certainly know what the story is when they try out for the job. Is it possible that some woman celebrate their femininity and good looks and have pride in it? Possible?

Signguy - December 8, 2006 07:42 PM (GMT)
The Ice Girls are a joke.
Especially during a long TV time out when the players huddle over at their respective
benches. The players actually have to move out of the way for these kids to scrape
away no more ice than it takes to make a popsicle.
Ridiculous!
Bring back Hard Core Hockey!!!

How bout you don't try to have giveaways at the game then right? Someone has to do it why not have someone who's easy on the eyes. Dina and the ice girls aren't the problem.....They don't hold up the game, its done during TV timeouts. If you want to listen, listen but if you don't care then tune them out.

Again this is mandated by the league....if the girls didn't do it Roberto and his crew would be doing it. If your against it fine but don't pin it on the ice girls.

Signguy - December 8, 2006 08:06 PM (GMT)
At least in football they’re not on the field.
The Panthers have Cheerleaders that are positioned
on a platform at one end of the arena.
They never step foot on the ice.
My objection is interrupting the players at the bench.
Does the ice really need cleaning at almost every break?

Totally agree with you there....They shouldn't be made to go out after they were just out there 3-5 "game" minutes ago...just cause TV needs to get some commericals in.

isleschick39 - December 8, 2006 08:41 PM (GMT)
i think CJ Papa did better than Dina. I dunno, i just feel like you have to look at her boobs when she talks lol

as for the ice girls, yeah i know its not their fault because the league mandated it but still...i feel like its just a waste of time.

dont get me wrong...i still enjoy going to the games, i even have season tickets but theres just a few things that irk me.
