HOW LONG HAVE I BEEN AN ISLE FAN: 12 YEARS GOING ON 13 (As far as i can remember)
FAV. ISLES PLAYER CURRENT: TRENT HUNTER/ MIRO SATAN
FAV. ISLES PLAYER ALL TIME AND WHY: ZIGGY PALFFY! Simple, i first started watching isle hockey in 1993, i was old enough to understand that turegeon got cheap shotted by hunter and then everyone was gone. when i really knew the team person by person, ziggy was the person that stood out of all the rest, even w/ the likes of WENDAL CLARK, MATTEAU SNIEDER,and TREVER LINDEN, BERTUZZI, McCABE, BERARD, FICHAUD.
you knew when ziggy touched the puck he was going to score! or atleast the goalie would have to make a terrific save or he'd hit the post!
First isles game attented: sens vs isles...dec. 1996! two highlights: ziggy scores w/ .17 left in the second on an awesome deak and one of our chump players got put through the glass... we lost 4-1
Best islander moment: watching volek pass to farrero for the win in 1993 on a saturday afternon w/ gary thorne on commentary! bye-bye pens! and when the isles made it back into the playoffs for the first time in 7 years officially w/ a home win over philly to end the season.
#2) GAME in tampa in march 16,2004..win 3-1 coming back from 1-0. it was my third isle game over all.. awesome team effort..my current record in seeing the isles play= 2-4!
#3)GAME 2 of this year's playoffs...my first playoff game ever (unfortuantely it was away) but they shutout the bolts 3-0 on blakes 2 and a ninnima PP goal! just great to watch the bolt fans leave w/ 8 minutes left in the game
Least current islander: YASH
Least fav. alltime islander: muller
second team: aves (except barnaby) ANY TEAM VS THE RAGS!
fav. non-islander player: JEROME IGINLA (ziggy palffy)
FAVORITE NON HOCKEY TEAMS: METS (baseball) JAGUARS(football) GATORS(college football/baseball) Lake Wier Hurricanes (highschool ALMA MATA baseball team) Tony Stewart (nascar)

WOW!!!!
Now that is some good sh!t right there!!!
I was born in Lisbon too..and actually went back a few years ago and ran into Eusebio at the stadium. I see him pretty often here in Newark (I live in a BIG Portuguese community) and Eusebio is usually here 4-5 times a year...especially over the summer.
So I'm guessing you probably still keep up with it?
BIG GAME this week: Benfica vs. Sporting with both teams tied for the top spot, and Porto right behind them. BENFICA HAS TO WIN THIS GAME DAMN IT!!!!
gypsy - May 11, 2005 12:59 AM (GMT)
I try to keep up with it, but it's hard. Not too many Portuguese where I live, so I go into Mineola to get the papers and see how Benfica is doing. Is there a webb site where we can go to check on soccer over there?
SigEpStyles - May 11, 2005 01:01 AM (GMT)
There are a few good websites...but here's my favorite:
SL-BENFICA.netIt's a message board, and the posters really do a good job of recapping games and updating the standings. Pretty active site.

LOCATION: Ca-Na-Da!
AGE: 21
FAVORITE CURRENT ISLANDER: Gotta be Adrian Aucoin, with DP as a close 2nd. From what I hear he was incredible in the came today, though unfortunately it wasn't televised here. <_<
FAVORITE ALLTIME ISLANDER: Well, since I'm kinda new to the Islanders scene I'll go with Pfalffy.
FAVORITE NON HOCKEY SPORTS TEAMS: Non-hockey, or just non-Islanders, because I'm not ashamed to admit I'm a fan of the Leafs! :P And my local boys, the Kitchener Rangers. But the only sport I watch other than hockey, is football, and my love for the Tampa Bay Bucs, I have to admit, has been forced on me, but it's there! ;)
FAVORITE ISLANDER YEAR: Well I'm a new fan, only really started to follow them this year, but lemme tell you I watched every single playoff game and I damn near cried at the last one. But it was a great season.
FAVORITE NON ISLANDER PLAYER: Jerome Iginla... love him.
MOST MEMORABLE SPORTS MOMENT: I was a kid, and my mum let me stay up late to watch the Toronto Blue Jays game, when they won their first of two-in-a-row World Series'. Now I can't stand the sport.
Webb20 - May 12, 2005 10:31 PM (GMT)
So Mel let me get this straight. You became an Islander fan (even if it's your second favorite team) AFTER the '01 series, and being a Leaf fan. Wow I think that is unprecedented.
melbatoasty - May 13, 2005 06:24 AM (GMT)
Well, let's get one thing straight... Peca's a bitch in my books! I can't stand the guy... it's the rest of the team I support! Ditch Peca (alright, alright, Yashin too) and you'll have a real team.
If it weren't for fantasy hockey, I probably wouldn't have given the Isles a chance. But I'll be damned if last season team Melbatoasty didn't draft Kvasha, Aucoin, Dipietro, Yashin, and Hamrlik. It was damn near half of my team! I watched a couple of Islanders games and I was hooked. ^_^ I ended up ditching Yashin and Hamrlik and later picked up Czercawski and Hunter (the later was smart, the former was probably not) and held on to a few others in between. But I must say, the team really evolved a lot while I was watching and I grew to love (all but one) of 'em! Aucoin's my man though. I love that guy. Everything a defenceman should be.

Trent Hunter was the first pick in my draft SERIOUSLY!
melbatoasty - May 13, 2005 06:38 AM (GMT)
No way!! That's amazing!! I mean, I wouldn't say he's "first-pick" worthy, but certainly not a disappointment. My first pick was Dany Heatley. That was an unfortunate oversight on my part... Who the hell forgets to remove Dany Heatley from their draft list???? The guy was practically in a full body cast at the beginning of last season. I'm never gonna let myself live that down.
drivefor5 - May 13, 2005 06:42 AM (GMT)
Ok well maybe im exadurating(sp) but I did pick him in my draft...I knew that he was gonna have a big year especially playing in Bridgeport the year before and watching him play in the Toronto series! So I know that he had the skills too bad Stirling had him in and out of the lineup for the first 4-6 weeks of the season!
