Title: Double Minor Penalty Shot?
Description: What gives?

Doug Weight was high-sticked coming in on a breakaway vs the Sabres. My question is since it drew blood why did Weight not get

1. two penalty shots (ok I know that's far fetched)

or

2. a penalty shot and a 2 minute minor for the blood?

If this had been any other place but a breakaway we would've gotten 4 minutes of PP time for the blood, the ol' double minor. Yet on a breakaway we get just the penalty shot? Nothing for the additional infraction of drawing blood?

That's a legitimate NHL Officiating crew question. To the Top!

4 minutes of PP time

I agree.
Anything beyond that requires viagra.

this might be besides the point but I think that Doug received the wound on his face from crashing heads first into the boards as opposed to the stick

I didn't get that either.

If memory serves, I believe the penalty shot should not have even been an option. The call should have been a 5 min MAJOR for the slash and we should have had a 5 min PP, not a double minor.

Perhaps the ref thought the blood was caused by the collision with the boards, but I find that hard to believe. Plus, with 16 seconds left, the PS benefitted us most, but I didn't get the call at all.

That was some serious hockey. Weight taking the shot after getting slashed and going head first into the boards was what hockey used to be about.

I doubt it. No way you take a stick to the face but you get cut by the boards. I've never seen anyone get cut hitting the boards like that. Maybe hitting the top of the boards where it turns to meet the glass, but not going face first into a flat board.

He took the heel of the stick right about the lip and where was he bleeding...right above the lip.

The player should be fined for that. Slashing a guy in the face on a breakaway and drawing blood? Should be more than just a PS and then game on.
