Title: Mark Streit
bringbackziggy - October 27, 2009 02:04 AM (GMT)
Not only has he sucked this season, but tonight against Montreal was the worst game I've seen him play in an Islanders uniform. Discuss.
Shooter - October 27, 2009 02:05 AM (GMT)
The entire D sucks. Gervais played it poorly too, falling down like that. And Streit will only look worse with the quality of defensemen who he has to play with night in and night out.
bringbackziggy - October 27, 2009 02:07 AM (GMT)
Well to be honest I'm not only talking about all of his defensive zone gaffes. His play in the offensive zone and neutral zone was terrible, I lost count of the number of turn overs he committed.

He hasn't been sharp at all this year. I think handling shifts with Gervais and Meyer have worn him down.

I have to agree with shooter there...seriously, if goalies can worn down from too many shots (sorry rick) then obviously a semi good defenseman will get worn down also.
rifleman22 - October 27, 2009 01:59 PM (GMT)
Bullspit. This is a guy that said he would do whatever needed to prove to the Habs and the rest of the league that he should be a go to d-man and play big minutes to prove it.
So far that hasn't happened.
Don't care who he's paired with- top line D in this league produce two things- shut down defense and quarterbacking the point on the PP.
So far that hasn't happened either.
Time to step up, Mr. Streit.
bumpkin - October 27, 2009 02:05 PM (GMT)
Tough crowd. We could always trade him away if he is that bad.
Snowday - October 27, 2009 02:09 PM (GMT)
It's Garth Snow's fault. I'm blaming everything on him for now on.

I have finally started to see the light...when you have lack of talent the pressure is automatically given to the ones that have it. For so long, I beat up Rick, (some he deserved ofcourse). As fans we know it is pointless to get on someone with no talent that isn't going to be here in 3 years. A waste of energy. Get on the talented players, because if they were really good, they make players around them better. But like it has been mentioned, teams are focusing more on the talented players. But, thats too bad. Those players, yes, have to step up their game and force the opposition to cover them more, so it opens up the ice for the less talented. And with a prayer, and an Angel, the puck will bounce our way for those that are misguided, or suck. This is why, the money goes to talented players, and why he get so mad at them more. We expect more from them. And so do the medicore players. So in a sense, those players need to be treated like royalty. (Rick). But when they faulter, they get sh*t load of abuse. Is it fair? :dontknow: . But that's the meaning of teamwork. Everyone has to do what each and everyone is capable of doing for themselves. Not to try and do to much. Thats where I think a coach comes in, he needs to give players the confidence in themselves to just go out have fun and trust your teammates. They are brothers. Its only them. Stay in your position. Trust your teammates. Don't do too much. If their are players that continue to keep doing this, then they need to be benched, no matter whom they are. Seems like the only way to learn. That seems like its a job for a coach to do. To get each and evey player to respect each other, and be held accountable. Supposedly, we do have players down in bridge to call up, and replace those that are not getting it. I believe we can afford to do this, considering this is wash year anyway. Players need to have pressure. Need to know that they will lose their job, if they are not performing. Right now, only Tambellini is threatened. Bruno needs to be threatened.(besides seeing a puck comes his way). Call up a kohn or a macdonald for a few games or so. Wrecker needs to be threatened (besides being by his opponent). Bring up Matt Martin, lets if he can fight the big boys in the NHL. Right now, Mr. Martin only fights little boys.

Everyone looks bad so far, so picking on Streit isn't helpful. Tavares looks lost, Okposo can't hold the puck.... when Tambellini is knocking pucks in the net along with Andy Sutton and Radek Martinek, you know it's a team-wide disappointment.
Go-go needs to find a way to get them out of this OT slump.
bumpkin - October 28, 2009 06:26 AM (GMT)
OT is quicker than the game, with a lot more open ice. Perfect for the speed/skill teams. Okposo, Tavares, Streit-we need another Dman who can play both ends to compete. Then, when they get tired and we change lines, the odds will be against us.

And what a GREAT tie, Gorto! :disgraced:

You know as well as I do that my tongue was firmly planted in my cheek.
However, he needs to take the body more. The OT goal vs. Montreal is a classic example of a good hands Dman letting a guy get by him by going for the puck.

This new NHL is looking more and more like flag football/street hockey.

Radek Martinek did a nice job as the fourth guy last night against the Caps.
NOTE: I do not usually self reply. Just savoring the win.
