ANYONE WORTH THEIR SALT SPENT MANY A SATURDAY NIGHT LISTENING TO CHADWICK AND GORDON
AND THEIR GREAT STORIES ABOUT MILLIE'S RECIPES ETC
AND EVERYONE REMEMBERS "SHOOT THE PUCK BARRY" BUT BILL CHIMING IN WITH "AND SHOOT THE PUCK HE DID JIM"
NEVER WILL FORGET BEING AT THE COLISEUM FOR A ISLES/RAGS GAME
AND CHADWICK COMES WALKING UP TO THE PRESS GATE ASKING IF ANYONE HAS A HANGER CAUSE HE LOCKED HIS KEYS IN HIS CAR
WELL HE APPRECIATED MY EFFORT WHEN I CAME BACK WITH A WOODEN HANGER... TILL THIS DAY I DONT KNOW IF HE WAS TOSSING IT BACK TO ME OR THROWING IT AT ME AS HE WAS STANDING THERE LAUGHING
Bill "The Big Whistle" Chadwick, the first U.S.-born official in NHL history who was later a television analyst for the New York Rangers, died Saturday. He was 94.
His death was announced by son Bill and confirmed by John Halligan, a family friend and hockey historian.
Chadwick had been in declining health for a number of years and died while in hospice care.
For 16 seasons, from 1939 to 1955, and despite being blind in one eye, Chadwick was one of the best officials the NHL.
He invented and perfected the system of hand signals to signify penalties, and the system is now used throughout the world.
Howie mentioned it during the broadcast last night.

Cupz............awesome story.
I loved listening to Chadwick and Gordon growing up.
I'll never ever forget this quote by Chadwick: "Rangers skating to the goal to our left, Islanders to the goal to our right as there are two goals in hockey one being in each end." Classic.
And who can ever forget the quote by Chadwick......"Gerry Hart who has a lot of it."
He was a big part of my hockey youth growing up.
I loved his interviews with King Clancy. I laughed so hard watching them discuss the old days. RIP.
