Title: Yashin and Dipietro contracts
Description: = 9 million off the cap
Snowday - October 23, 2009 02:24 PM (GMT)
Close to 9 mill off our salary cap because of these two scrubs until at least 2015. Close to 12 mill a year being handed out combined anual salary.
Don't ever question why we can't/won't sign FA's.

9 mil a year already taken and we're still at the floor...
I wouldn't write off Rick's 4.5 mil as a waste just yet, he's still on the team, and if he comes back to form he's still a bargain and will only become more of one as time goes on, the cap goes up, and inflation kicks in.

Your kidding me right? They are using Yashin's contract to get to the cap floor...without it they'd HAVE to spend 4.5 mil just to get to the floor.
Don't blame this on Yashin, it not like his contract is keeping them from getting a FA or two....actually I take that back it IS keeping them from getting a FA cause the would HAVE too just to reach the cap floor.

Next year is the big hit for Yashin right?
What is it 4.5-5m???
after that he has like 3-4 years of 2m and that's manageable.
DP contract (IMO) won't be a problem if:
DP comes back and lives up to expectations
or
DP is forced to retire and it comes off cap because he signed the contract before his 35th birthday.
:dontknow:

09-10 3.2mil
10-11 4.7mil
12-15 2.2mil
It is sort of nuts we're paying him for 5 more years but they had to get rid of them when they did.

They should bring him back!   for only the cost of what we're already paying him...

They should bring Yashin back and put him on the freaking 4th line. At least we'd get something for 4mil+

Haha, these contracts are definitely not keeping Wang from spending money on free agents.
"Alex Tanguay, will you sign this deal with the Islanders?"
"Not with that DP and Yashin contracts eating up all of the cap space!"
This team is in such a sad state.... :rotflmao:

I know I was in the minority on this one but didn't want to see him bought out (or at least not at that time). I would have given him one more year. If anything, he drew defenseman and gave others room to work. The problem was that we expected so much from the guy due to the contract that he could never have lived up to it short of breaking Gretzky's record.

yeah cause getting rid of him made it more likely for Ryan Smyth to resign with us
ooops , I said it :yea:

They should bring Yashin back, stick him in the goal and shoot pucks at him during practice. Good riddance to a player that got everything he wanted and seldom came through in the clutch or earned what he felt he deserved.

in the words of Seth Meyers...
REally? Are you really trying to blame the fact that we didn't sign a significant FA on the Yashin and DP contracts? Really?
Those two contracts have as much to do with the Isles not signing a big name FA this offseason as George Michael of Wham had to do with heterosexual sex.
No offense, but gimme a break.
We barely reached the league basement for salary cap. Charles W is waiting to see if we get a LH project and he isn't spending a dime over the basement until he gets his answer. It has nothing to do with DP or Yashin.
But by all means. Let me know when he can blame Yashin and DP for the failure to pass healthcare reform.
