Title: Isles do something RIGHT!!!
Description: Now get a REAL enforcer!

stevedepot - October 13, 2009 03:30 PM (GMT)
send Joel Rechlicz down to the bridge. (should have thrown him off it)

I hope no one complains that we need to be patient
and allow coughcough "The Wrecker" coughcough to develop.
He's awful and that nickname is a joke.

They cut operating costs but spend up the wazoo on anything LH propaganda related.
Good thing Wang is doing it right now by laying low on recent meeting.
See how long that lasts. As for our teams lack of toughness and a true fighting/hitting INTIMIDATING presence
on our bench to keep the likes of the Orrs, Brashear's and Prongers from laying out one of our kids...
well, lets be patient and hope they don't end up patients.

It's not like we have snipers that can make a team think twice about taking runs or penalties.
There's no deterrent like other teams who don't need a true enforcer.

Now, see if you can bring Chris Simon over or trade for someone who isn't going to "learn on the job".
Why we have enough personnel on this team from players on up to management doing that.

Rechlicz sent down

20 m ago By Mark Herrmann

Having spent more time in the penalty box (5 min, after an unsuccesful scrap) than on the ice (3:30) yesterday, Joel Rechlicz has been returned to Bridgeport, continuing his up-and-down pattern.

A handful of regulars (incl Josh Bailey) skating ths morning, looking for extra work

sybo - October 13, 2009 03:35 PM (GMT)
good...now all they need to do is leave him there.

ronski631 - October 13, 2009 03:51 PM (GMT)
next stop, getting rid of half our defense for more draft picks

Do not bring Simon back. He's an enforcer, but an embarrassment to the league after those two incidents. Let another team take that embarrassment. Good point about "The Wrecker."

3POTI - October 13, 2009 04:37 PM (GMT)
but stevedepot he needs to get used to the heavyweighters like tavares needs to get used to goalies in shootouts.. (just kidding)

bumpkin - October 13, 2009 04:49 PM (GMT)
In a related story, Chris Dey is hitting the gym, road, and sparring partners in the ring. Then, if time allows, he will learn how to skate.
He will be in the lineup(dressed as a hockey player) on October 31st against Buffalo.
Good luck, Chris!

I still say we should have kept Mitch Fritz...the guy couldn't skate, couldn't puck handle, couldn't do much of anything..but he's a freaking tree person and he carried a big bag of knuckles..

Fritz was terrible too. I would take Simon back in a heartbeat if his skills are still up to par.

fritz back...its was painful watching him try to skate. only the islanders seem to find these guys..

There were ample opportunities to pick up players who could fit the role and effectively. Instead, Mr. Wang continues to battle Queen Kate and until she grants him his billion dollar lottery ticket, we'll see the low of lows with this franchise. Yup, it really is better that he's the owner.

dragoneye - October 13, 2009 10:25 PM (GMT)
For all its worth, not knowing if you could take a stick to the face as retaliation for a misdoing might actually work in Simon's favor these days.

Go after JT, lose a few teeth...

stonedcold39 - October 13, 2009 11:26 PM (GMT)
I say trade Gervais and a crappy minor leaguer for Neil and a pick. He has a two year deal, is there a reason we couldnt?

DannyBinAtlanta - October 14, 2009 03:05 AM (GMT)
I too would support bringing back Chris Simon so long as he doesn't completely suck at the game of hockey. He definitely did some stupid things but to me at least he shows passion for the game still. Not to mention I'm certain he would relish the role of punisher to all that take runs at our future stars (or current stars as the case may be!).

In a perfect world I think any of us would sign for that, but here's two reasons why that can't happen:

1. The Sens just re-signed Neil this offseason, so obviously he fits with their team.

2. We would have to package Gervais with Tavares to get anybody to take him. He's the worst.

Why not just waive him then? Let's see if there's any takers.

It's far better than having Guerin (when he was here) and Weight as our stars.

rifleman22 - October 14, 2009 12:59 PM (GMT)
Sending Wrecker to the Bridge is fine. I cannot believe, however, that in the entire minor league system of the NHL there isn't a guy who can enforce, has average skating skills and is not a complete head case.

It would cost us a low round pick at best.

If Wrecker isn't the answer (and he isn't) how about Garth steps to the plate and finds someone that is?

I don't think it would be that difficult. You probably could swap Wrecker for someone in a heartbeat.

And think about it- we're not looking for anything more than a MARGINAL fourth liner that can simply stand up while he throws punches. Can't be hard to find.

Webb20 - October 14, 2009 01:46 PM (GMT)
Apparently it is.

Why don't we bring up Matt Martin. The guy can most definitely skate, is a heavyweight, and doesnt shy away as shown by him leading the Sting in PIMs by a wide margin.

Got to be better than the 'Wrecker'

the Wrecker....

Westfall18 - October 14, 2009 01:49 PM (GMT)
I don't think he's the answer but you gotta give wrecker credit..He rises to the bell every time he's gotta drop the gloves..punching bag or not...

Absolutely. Good point.

None of these guys are "bad guys". Question is, are they the right guys for this team.
We have too many learning on the job. Even when you rebuild something, you have to have a strong foundation. We don't have that yet.

Some good news to ponder. Read Botta's latest with Bergenheim clearing the air.

Maybe he's called the Wrecker because when he gets into fights, he gets his own face wrecked. Just a simple misunderstanding, I think. :dontknow:y

I thought of Martin before and I think its a good idea, not sure why they don't give him the same opportunity they have given "Self-Wrecker”.
