Wow, LaFontaine said this? Disappointing. I still hate the shootout and the goalie trapazoid. I don't think I could handle a dumbarse change like that. I'd have to get satellite and watch Michigan and Minnesota college hockey instead of teh NHL! :fear:

I would say make it a judgement call for the refs, if a player takes an obvious penalty when up by 1 with :10 left in the third, then it should be a penalty shot.
Officials should have the ability to give either timed penalties or penalty shots at their discretion.

To go back and have ties in the NHL is absolutely ludicrous.
Continue with shootouts or play OT til someone drops. But decide an NHL game......and don't have ties.

All these years, throuh all the gimmicks and rule changes, if they just called the game consistently,
there'd be no reason for this crap.
I have a soft spot for LaFontaine because he visited a good friend of mine in the hospital who passed from Leukemia years ago. But he is out of his mind here.

I don't like the shootout, nor do I agree with Lafontaine. Next someone will suggest we bring back the glowing puck for fans who can't follow it... thank you Fox sports...
I think they should fix the power play, though. Instead of counting it as 1 power play opportunity even if you spend 15 seconds on it, they should count the time spent on the power play. That would be a more accurate stat when deciding who has the best and worst power play in the league. The way it works now interrupting penalties give a false impression of the team's overall performance. I think I heard this idea from Jaffe... it's not my original.

As for LaFontaine, I knew he took some time to recover from a few of those concussions, but I thought he was past them. Guess not based on that suggestion.
He came up with that suggestion, yet had a problem with Wang's "committee"? Shocking :o :rofl:
Just leave the game alone.
