Title: And So the Bidding for the Isles Begins

Rather Queens than KC...

LEDZEP - October 6, 2009 01:37 AM (GMT)
The Islanders' lease with Nassau County stipulates that they must play their homes games through 2015,
so the team is still six seasons from a potential move.
============
IN 2016 ISLES WILL BE IN SAME LOCATION

I hope like hell Wanger gets on the phone and pursues this.

F the TOH.

Mulefan - October 6, 2009 06:30 AM (GMT)
Sounds good to me. That would give me the train or drive option. Queens is just as much LI as NYC. On the map it looks like it's still LI. If after all of this time the TOH keep dragging their feet Wang should take this guy up. He will get his project without uprooting the team and everyone is happy. :isles:

Shooter - October 6, 2009 10:34 AM (GMT)
Will Wang control the land? Not likely. "it's all about the land..."

Has been since day one and will be when Wang finally compromises with the TOH and keeps the Islanders here. Come back to this post when the deal is finally reached.

Bossy22 - October 6, 2009 11:10 AM (GMT)
I thought if the new lease was approved that the Islanders had an out within a certain period of time. Can someone clarify this. If this is indeed the case, the Isles may not be subject to playing here until 2015.

MNIslander13 - October 6, 2009 12:16 PM (GMT)
:dontknow:

So "if" they move to Queens, do they change the name? I don't think I could handle the NY Queens.

(it's the name I use to give crap to my Viking pals --- Vi-queens)

and a :isles: logo change would really suck. It's the main reason I fell in  with this team when I was little.

I hope they stay on the island.

Webb20 - October 6, 2009 12:32 PM (GMT)
The logo would most certainly have to change as only Nassau and Suffolk are represented. Let's hear what Suffolk plans to offer them before we jump the gun on a move to Queens.

JakeStone - October 6, 2009 12:46 PM (GMT)
Better to stay in NYC than go anywhere else.

Western Suffolk would be fine by me.

BRENTWOOD!

Wang going anywhere shows his true colors since from MY little view, he's got everything he NEEDS (not wants) right now in the new lease agreement. No love for the guy. He's all about the $$$$ and nothing else.

dragoneye - October 6, 2009 12:52 PM (GMT)
Queens is still on Long Island while be part of NYC. Everything theoretically should be the same except they'd be playing in a new arena with mass transit. I say they should say F the TOH and move to queens anyway.

Totally agree...The Logo would maybe change slightly but I think it would stay. They would still be "The Islanders" in Queens. Hell, the Giants/Jets PLAY IN NJ and they are called New York. Same goes for the Red Bulls. It's better in Queens that in Suffolk due to access to the arena. Put it near a subway/train and we can get good crowds even if/when we suck.

And for Wang and the land issue. I don't think he's ever really hidden that so I'm not so upset with him about that too much. All team owners have a big picture. Dolan's empire isn't the Rangers but his media pieces.

Is Suffolk even in the picture? I don't recall reading anything about that.

The TOH has dragged its feet too long with this - enough already. If I were Wang, Queens would be given 1st priority now and as was said before with public access to transportation, crowds to games are likely to be better.

Hell, I'd be talking to them today.....maybe even talk about moving CA HQ into Queens as well. Tell TOH "Thanks but no thanks".

Craving_the_Cup_Since_1992 - October 6, 2009 02:14 PM (GMT)
Even if talking to Queens is another ploy (it probably is), Wang needs to do it. The TOH plays games, Wang has to continue playing games. It's a sick and sad cycle of reality. We as children are taught to share and when we have differences with our friends or siblings, our parents sat us down and made us talk it out, then shake and that was that. Done. Then as adults we learn that what we really have to do is game the other side to not appear weak and to consolidate power. What a world. :moon:

IronIslander77 - October 6, 2009 02:23 PM (GMT)
Suffolk would be a move further into obscurity. With all due repect to DannyBinAtlanta - Brentwood would be a huge mistake for a shrinking fan base.

Queens can offer a larger fan base, better visibility (Put a huge Islanders Logo on the New Arean right Next to the Mets - you'll see it in the back ground on every Mets broadcast!) and still provide an accessible location for the exsisting fans. There is so much land just waiting for developement in Willets Pt. The LIE is right there. The LIRR and NY Subway... Parking is not an issue. Lack of public transportation. Though a lot of fans coming from suffolk may not like the extra half hour on the drive to the arena, they will have an alternative if they can stomach public transport.

We would no longer be a small market team.

Regarding the logo change, Queens is geographically long island. Hell, I grew up in the rockaways and the local paper still calls itself "The Wave of Long Island". I doubt they change the logo.

Let me go down as saying I'd prefer Queens over an overly conjested downtown Brooklyn. Sharing an arena with the Russian Owned Nets doesn't seem like a good deal.

Westfall18 - October 6, 2009 02:30 PM (GMT)
It would make my commute to Islanders games much much easier..wouldn't have to jump on 495. No more Northern Parkway and Meadowbrook traffic...I think it would take close to 40 minutes off my trip from the lower Hudson Valley, but you know what? The Islanders are long island's team. They should remain on Long Island no matter what. I wish the TOH would wake up and see what there about to lose.. I wanna know whats going to happen when the Islanders abandon Nassau Coliseum, what are they gonna put there? Whats it gonna turn into when there are no more concerts, no more trade shows, no more festivals...it's gonna be a ruin and it'll be all Kate Murray's fault.

Maybe this will also help grease the skids to SNY from MSG as well. I know the contract is long term, but once this current contract expires, maybe we can get MSG's paws off of us.

It'll end up being a housing development with 5 or 6 strip malls. Just like any other neighborhood on LI. Why do something spectacular when you can do something safe?

The logo and the name would not have to change at all if we move to Queens. Brooklyn or anywhere else yes, but not Queens. On the map Quenns looks more like a part of LI than NYC.

There would be much, much more access for people with train, subway, airport, and major highways all right there. That spot would actually be better than Nassau IMO and the infrastructure would probably cost much less with everything that's already there. Small inconveniences such as 15 to 20 minutes more in the car for those who drive from LI but so what. Attendance would increase just from the location alone IMO.

The Islanders would stay close and keep their name and Wang would get his project and everyone could be satisfied. Or we can just keep spinning our wheels with the TOH. I told you all that it wouldn't get approved by the deadline and I still don't think it will ever happen there unless Wang is willing to scale back big time which I don't see. There is major opposition to the lite rail system that would travel through Garden City and without that the traffic would be a nightmare. You wouldn't have to worry about such infrastructure problems in Queens because it's all already there.

Wang will not move unless he controls the land. The Islanders are only a portion of his obsession to make billions. So all the talk about Queens will be just that -- talk, unless they give Sir Charles his big billion dollar payoff.

I think Shooter's take is interesting. I can't claim to know exactly what's on Wanger's mind, but I suspect shooter's right. And if he's right, there's NO way Queens gives Wang the land with full control (and for good reason). Just like that back to where we started.

Wang should start negotiotians with queens..and make sure the press hears about it..really get the fans going into it..lighthouse blog should vote on the matter with the fans..queens or hempstead? I live in suffolk. but i don't want the team out here. I wouldn't drive to see them in queens, probably take the train..might even be more fun...who knows? heck, I probably won't even being going to anymore games after this year. All comes down to money...Not just with wang and developers..How much can one afford? And is it all worth it just to go to a game only to be aggravated?

It appears Queens would welcome our team with open arms (and open wallet). If I'm Wang I use this as leverage against the TOH and get them to move on his plans.

It's all positioning at this point, andd Wang now has room to move (no pun intended).

Look, Queens is closer for me from NJ, but I would still like them to stay in Hempstead.

Submit plans, albeit just a shell, to Queens and meet with them. Watch how fast the TOH gets off its arse and how even her cronies start turning on Kate.

There is nothing more fun to watch than a politician that knows they're in the crosshairs of ruin. They run around like chickens without heads. It's hilarious.

Let the show begin.

Has been since day one and will be when Wang finally compromises with the TOH and keeps the Islanders here. Come back to this post when the deal is finally reached.

Hit the nail right on the head shooter. Interesting that Suozzi's proposed lease deal for Wang gives him the option of eventually buying all the land surrounding the coliseum for $1.

Even with all the grandstanding, this deal will get done. It's all R vs. D politics and everyone looking to get their ring kissed. Wang is to close to getting what he wants to walk away from it. I think in the end Rechler will be the bigger man and set Wang strait about what's to be gained and lost if Wang refuses to work through some of the amendment process.
