Title: Sound Tigers sporting White Retros
Andy - October 5, 2009 09:06 PM (GMT)
Check it out... looks like what the Isles will probably have as road jerseys next year:

Thumbs up.

Also noteworthy: NYI stops using the navy blue logo on their promo stuff... latest example:

Also the Adventureland thing had the new logo, too.

Sweet, but I wish they would go back to the white jerseys at home. :isles:

I love it . . . but PLEASE FIX THE SOCKS if they're going to use this design in the Isles' uniform next year.
As with the introduction of the current Isles' 3d jersey/uniform last season, which featured a bizarre, vertical blue stripe on the back of the sock, the socks on the Sound Tigers' uniform have an unusual feature not seen in the original NYI organization jerseys---the entire bottom half of the sock is orange.
On the Island, it's supposed to be an orange stripe, not an orange sock.
It seems unnecessary to state this, but we're looking for the classic Islanders uniform to return---just as we remember it.
And I agree, I'd love to see those jerseys return at home. For my money, the greatest jersey and uniform in history: The Islanders in their home whites.
Thanks for listening.

Can't wait till the Tigers auction those bad boys off..gotta get my hands on one of those jerseys..
DannyBinAtlanta - October 6, 2009 05:45 PM (GMT)
Good stuff. I have been looking for a vintage white Isles jersey for years to go with my royal Gillies jersey, with no luck. I'm so getting one of these when they come out. I'm with you all -- home whites need to return. We should've left the orange numbers on this current third jersey we have now and brought back the old royal jerseys. Oh well. I'll give it a few more days til my next jersey complaint outburst. :isles:

The home and away switch was an NHL decision, obviously to market more jerseys. I think fans for all teams want the home whites back. Maybe the Islanders could lead the way...especially if they are bringing back the dynasty whites...

WASNT THE NHL EXCUSE AT THE TIME
THAT THE ROAD TEAMS DIDNT KNOW WHICH JERSEYS THE HOME TEAM WOULD WEAR SO THEY HAD TO BRING BOTH THEIR JERSEYS
SO MAKING THE AWAY TEAM WHITE HELP REDUCE THE BAGGAGE
OR SOMETHING STUPID LIKE THAT
AND OF COURSE MAKING US FOOLS GO OUT AND BUY THE RIGHT COLOR JERSEYS WASNT IN THE PLAN AT ALL
Dark Helmet - October 7, 2009 02:47 AM (GMT)
Wow, those look fantastic. Hope the big club follow suit.
ronski631 - October 7, 2009 04:40 AM (GMT)
i can't wait until they finally get rid of the awful clown suits
BRING BACK THE WHITE OUT! :punk:

Yup, there was actually talk a year or two ago that it was close to going back to home whites.
I hope we will, white at home is just the way to go.
DannyBinAtlanta - October 7, 2009 01:12 PM (GMT)
Yes CUPZ I remember that too. And of course I agree, lame-o argument for changing the colors up. I think the introduction of third jerseys messed everything up since they're all solid colors and home teams would sometimes wear them.
I think the NHL could market the jersey thing into a mini-gimmick that would make most of us happy (those of us that want home whites back). Make home whites the standard again and have designated weekends where, league-wide, all teams wear road colors (and/or third jerseys) on home ice. That way fans get a chance to see their full colors every once in awhile. What do you all think? If that works, then maybe we can start lobbying to bring back the old division names! ;)
Besides, why is it that the NHL does this but the NFL allows the friggin cowboys to wear white at home ALL the time when dark colors are SUPPOSED to be the home uniform?

I didn't know this about the Cowboys. Not fair, but the logistics between travelling in the NHL and NFL make it kind of a moot point.

REally? I think they're rather similar. Plenty of pads, equipment to cart around in both sports.
Gloobenberg - October 7, 2009 02:02 PM (GMT)
I wanna keep the blues at home, thanks.

What I meant was that you don't have "road trips" in football, if you're going away, you go away and then come home, and only have to carry your pads. In hockey, you can hit 3, 4, or 5 game trips, and if one of those teams is wearing a dark and the others white, you have to carry both uniforms (and equipment).

Home team have the option of wearing the whites. They usually choose to do so when it early in the season on hot days. The darker jerseys obviously might be hotter than the white ones. Chargers did that for the Ravens, making the Ravens wear the dark ones on the road. Didn't tire them out like they had hoped. Chargers still lost.

I actually like the colored home jerseys... more colorful = more team-like... more unique. I think the current situation is good... though those NYI royal-whites are fantastic.
stonedcold39 - October 8, 2009 09:40 PM (GMT)
Love those jerseys. What I didn't like is that when they did the Al Arbour 1500 game, they wore the new white ones. It looked so dumb, they should have done a retro thing.
DannyBinAtlanta - October 8, 2009 11:38 PM (GMT)
I look at it like this: I know what my team colors are. I'd like to see the opposing teams colors too. Then make wearing our full color uniforms at home a unique event-type thing. I grew up on home whites, so I'm partial to it. I'd like them back. I haven't experienced a positive change in the NHL after 1994.
Dr. Generosity - October 11, 2009 04:50 PM (GMT)
White jerseys are home jerseys. Dark colors means you're in somebody else's rink. That's 35 years of NHL hockey speaking. (Yes, I know that the rules were less clear before 1970.) Time to get back to basics!
The NHL had one season where teams switched from white at home to dark colors at home....1991-92, the 75th anniversary season for the league. At the halfway mark, all teams switched to dark colors at home. That was the first time I saw the Islanders in dark blue (I *never* traveled in those days, so different from now) and it did make quite an impression.
So I don't mind occasionally seeing the dark colors at home, but I really, really miss seeing white jerseys consistently at home. (Oh, yes, that and playoff wins.)
