Title: Jon Sim Tracker
Description: Sleeper Picks
dragoneye - October 3, 2009 08:26 PM (GMT)
I am starting this as my way to say that I think he will have a good year. I liked what I saw from him the last few days he was allowed to play with the big club. That, combined with this being his contract year and also being 2 years removed from his major knee surgery makes me feel he is one of those sleeper players where if he wakes up, will have a huge impact on the Isles and their standings.
You may have your own sleeper pick. Who is it? Let's have a competition to see who is this years sleeper. Sorry, no prizes.

One must be able to skate to score in the NHL. I say let's keep a tracker on how soon he pulls a groin.
dragoneye - October 3, 2009 09:00 PM (GMT)
Ha. :yea:
I wonder what the over under is in Vegas for Islander groin pulls this year.
stonedcold39 - October 3, 2009 09:30 PM (GMT)
Scored with him ni NHL 10 today...he's gona be amazing.

Jon Sim:
2 own goals? Debatable but possible. Not bad for his first game. heheh. I must have cursed him.
IronIslander77 - October 4, 2009 02:37 AM (GMT)
I like Jon Sim. Honestly I do.
He's no Bossy but he brings a gritty, sloppy, dirty goal element to the game. 15 goals from Sim wouldn't be a stretch.
He is a good agitator. Not sure exactly what he is yapping about out there, but the other team always seems to take penalties for attempting to decapitate him.
Interested to know what Jaffe was talking about at during the pregame about Sim letting outside influences effect his game last year...
Anyone hear anything about that?
Dr. Generosity - October 4, 2009 04:06 AM (GMT)
I'm no Jon Sim fan, that's for sure. But he did get some power play end toward the end of one of our power plays tonight. Glad to see the coach giving everyone an opportunity. Those who seize them belong, and those who fumble them belong someplace else.

Yeah. Tambellini on the point? That was a shocker.

To quote the person who I was sitting next toast night. "If you have John Sim on your first thrree line, you are not competing in the NHL"

I HATE JON SIM!!!
I'm embarrassed that hes an Islander every time he tries to be a pest and instigate something after the whistle and gets knocked on his ass by a small shove...which is just about every time hes on the ice...you would think a professional hockey player would have some sort of knowledge of how to balance on his skates
ronski631 - October 4, 2009 03:38 PM (GMT)
son jim will be sent down by November
dragoneye - October 4, 2009 05:02 PM (GMT)
It appears I have chosen a heartfelt fan favorite here. Hahah. I think what I like about him is that he seems to play the game the way they did before they pussified hockey. Players used to always keep it up after the play. Now as soon as the whistle blows it is like most are robots and power-down regardless of what is happening.
rifleman22 - October 5, 2009 08:05 PM (GMT)
To take some of the heat off of Sim, who I thought was aggressive in the game and didn't do anything foolish, this thread is for you to pick your "sleeper" this season, no?
So I'm picking Schremp. Fast, good hands, can put the biscuit in the basket.
And I'm stickin' to it.
Schremp in the basket?
Jumbo Schremp?
Put another Schremp on the barby?
C'm you little Schremp, drop 'em.
Ohhhhhh Myyyyyyyyy
The Schrempster.

I'm not thrilled that Jon Sim is still around, but I appreciate and recognize the fact that he can chip in about 15 goals and fill in on a Top 9 role when need be. I think he's too small and not tough or agitating enough to be counted on as a good 4th liner, especially when our small, young forwards need to be complemented with some size and protection on the 4th line. He's alright to keep around, but he should be one of the first guys slotted out of the Top 9 when most of the forwards are healthy.
dragoneye - October 6, 2009 12:19 AM (GMT)
He could be. Considering we know nothing at all about him I think any decent contribution from him would be considered a steal.

Son Jim didn't break up the team, no.
I do hope he can break up Nickelback and whoever else is behind the lame ass game music.
dragoneye - October 9, 2009 01:38 AM (GMT)
Sim was one of the best players on the ice tonight. Caused a few penalties against and had several decent chances on offense. Schremp: 2 straight penalties

Yes, but the second was a good one to take. Right on the heels of Neil running Bailey high...I've got no problem with what Schremp did. Ottawa brought the hits down afterwards.

jon sim is a joke of an nhl player, he can't skate to save his life let alone stand up on his skates.

Does Jon Sim ever get any of his shots on net ? All I heard 2nite was Sim...shot wide...Sim...missed the net

nah...he's just a 4th liner, playing on a team that has three of them.

4 shots from the slot were wide by him. As a team we had quite a few unforced shots wide. Hunter and Weight also had them.
Shooter - October 9, 2009 12:56 PM (GMT)
Jon Sim doesn't belong on this team, if they are indeed in a rebuilding process. Second, let's hope he pads his stats somehow and he can be ditched for a fifth rounder by the trade deadline.
puckhead - October 9, 2009 12:59 PM (GMT)
Look, there's a reason why this guy signed with us and was passed by other teams. He has no accuracy on shots whatsoever. Its too bad because he's very involved and works his ass off.

He does work hard. I'm sure Freddy Meyer works hard too but he's overmatched and doesn't belong on a team that would be serious about winning the Cup. Unfortunately, there's quite a few players like this on the roster.

Our whole roster Shoot, is made up of untalented guys who work very hard.
Hell, that's why we have the payroll we have.
dragoneye - October 9, 2009 02:25 PM (GMT)
If Sim keeps up what he is doing then why not be satisfied with that. Drawing penalties, generating chances, throwing opponents off their game... He was never meant to be more than a 3rd line player. If you look at him with expectations of scoring 25 goals and 50 points then you might get let down.
Hunter can't skate well either but it is all about positioning. And I trust that Bailey is trying but he is getting pounded out there.

I've put in about 4 garbage goals with Hunter in NHL 10.

Bailey too on semi breakaway.
Comeau as well on that semi 2 on one in the third with the Sens goalie, Leclaire coming
out to challenge. A more confident player with his skill would have pump faked,
gone right and had an open net to score on.
My hindsight is 20/20.
:dontknow:
dragoneye - October 9, 2009 07:35 PM (GMT)
I think we all need to remember that we are only 2 games deep into the season. I sure as hell forget it all of the time watching these guys miss the net or make stupid plays. Although I wish Bailey could be sent back to junior right now, I think that he will be ok in the long run here.
dragoneye - October 11, 2009 01:45 AM (GMT)
Sim - Posts a rebound with a nice shot short side for his first goal.
Schremp - Shootout goal.

I wish the Islanders would stop puttin him on the powerplay it makes it an instant 4v4 situation hes so worthless. Sadly, I don't mind all his ice time only because i figure the more icetime the better chance he gets injured and we don't have to see him anymore...JON SIM HAS NO BUSINESS BEING ON ANY NHL ROSTER

He's only here because he has a year left on his contract.
