Not too many times that we've opened the season at home. Only the fifth time in thirty-six years. Feels strange.

Coincidentally, the last time we opened the season at home was against the Penguins, in 1998-99 (a 3-4 loss).

I'm just going to put this out there, no need to blast me for it.

For anyone going to the game tomorrow and who is a Town of Hempstead resident, Democrat candidate Kristen McElroy will be speaking at 6 pm by the box office and Tom Suozzi will be dropping the puck.


Then of course, once th game starts Joel Rechlicz will be dropping the gloves with Eric Godard and I will be hiding under the table of the blog box.

I was only watching the 1:st period yesterday between Pitts and Rags. Nothing about their game that really impressed me then. Maybe they got things really going halfway through.
We know who to watch out for, just let's hope that's enough.

Absolutely!

It's hard to think of Pens as defending SC champions just looking at the first period. Islanders dominated big parts of 1st. Penguins only looked good on a couple of shifts.

yeah, I can't even get on Witt for losing track of Crosby on their goal cause that hit set up the goal and swung the momentum our way.

As others have posted, HUGE hit by Witt on Tank! Nothing to be pissed about except that he didn't pay attention enough to let Big Brendan have that opportunity. Glad the zebras saw it our way, too! Great work on the 5 on 3 PP!

Couple notes on the first period...

Bruno Gervais is back to his out of position self. That Pens goal...wtf was he doing? Witt was in the Pens zone with the puck and took a shot that was blocked and Bruno is STANDING FLAT FOOTED ON THE BLUELINE WHILE CROSBY MAKES A BREAK FOR IT? Then to make matters worse, Witt beats Bruno down the ice to try to catch Crosby?

Nice hustle Bruno. You made several crappy passes and were out of position and showed no hustle to make up for it on Pitts goal. Can't wait to watch more of that.

PP looks lost. No crispness and not urgency. They didn't move and the puck movement is terribly slow. I know it is only 1 period, but come on. WTF are Tamby and Hunter doing on the PP to begin with?

Great hit by Witt. It got McKee out of the game and gave us that 5 on 3 that we scored on.

Roloson hasn't been tested much but he seems to be moving well and following the puck. I like that the Pens shots are mostly from the outside but there are some gaping holes in front. Better watch that.

That was Gervais fault, not Witt's. Witter took the shot and was in the zone. Bruno needed to get off the blueline and never did. And what is worse is Witter beat him back into coverage. Bruno was brutal that first period.
