Hey I was watching sportscenter this morning and I saw my all-time favorite hockey head Barry Melrose (insert dumptruck full of sarcasm) discussing outdoor hockey games the NHL would be participating in this year. I thought I heard them say Buffalo. In the background there was indeed some outdoor hockey goin on from I guess last year. I never heard/knew about this before. Can anyone fill me in? Looks pretty cool!

It's Philly @ Boston at Fenway this year. Melrose was referring to the Buff/Pitt one that may have confused you from 2 years ago.

ahhh Ok. Still cool, but I don't have any yearning to see any bostonians... :P
I think a road trip up to Buffalo would be cool tho. Road trip as in from LI, not ATL. I like the idea of an outside game, but not quite THAT much... :yea:

There was talk about having an outdoor game in New York but I guess
this kills any chance of that happening

Yea, it was the Isles idea to begin with.

No reason why they can't do both at the Stadium, just not the same day. Personally I'm glad they're starting to play college ball again in the Bronx. I used to wonder why they didn't do that back in the day too. Unfortunately, Army refuses to change height/weight requirements for their football players like Navy and Air Force have done (players have mere months to get into Army height and weight regulations compared to AF and Navy who allow far more time) so we will once again get slaughtered by nottie dame when we play in 2010. :angrier:
But why couldn't there be a scheduled NYI/NYR game in the bronx? Or any other teams from the eastern conference for that matter? February would be a good month for it since football season's over and everyone would enjoy a chance to get out and see some outdoor hockey, no?

How did you manage to avoid the hype machine that is the winter classic?

I dunno Snow. I don't remember much (if anything) about last season at all.
And yes Ron there's college football...

Isles to play outdoor game vs. the Long Island Jawz at North Shore Little League.

it takes a week to set up a rink .. so with the football at hestadium, it would have to be a week after the game...
