Not the first time I've heard his grandness utter those words. Save yourselves the aggravation and don't read the rag fan comments at the bottom.

I maintain though, if the Islanders were kickin' A$$ and taking names, the media would portray the die hard Islander fans (who would come to watch the great play) and their beloved dump of a building that they love (because WINNERS LIVE IN IT). The mistakes made by many in this team's front office have made the Islanders into what they are now: broke, locked in stupid debt to SMG, 938392 crappy uniforms since 95, laughing stock in the league, and worst of all a losing team. The LH will not correct all this but instead may add a host of new problems.

Sorry for the rant. Question though, does anyone know of anyone lobbying the County to help renovate NVMC after the county cried poverty (meanwhile every other city on the face of the earth manages to come up with LOTS of cash to help its local sports team with new venues) with real power? I don't recall Bettman lobbying for that (just the LH).

Another question for you legal beagles, what, if anything could anyone do about the SMG contract that drains tons of cash from the Isles each year? Contracts are broken and/or amended all the time, why isn't this one? Or HAS it?

How much does the County earn from the Islanders each year? How much of a hit will it take if/when the Islanders leave?

And why hasn't an effort been made to petition rock concerts and other events to not use NVMC the rest of the year? This would at least stick it to the County and perhaps force them to help renovate the place IF they do indeed reap decent earnings from events there.

I love NVMC. Maybe I'm not seeing what Bettman sees. But all the pretty eateries inside and gizmos and gadgets don't mean one dime to me. It's the team, the sight lines, the friends you have in your section, and the history.

The county can't renovate the coliseum without raising taxes. That would never go over. They are already over-extended to other county necessities.

Don't fault Bettman for his comments. Yes, he's said this before because the Coliseum isn't up to the technology standards of the other arenas. According to the county, it isn't even up to the state and federal standards.

I swear, I was in a meeting where a county representative said he was surprised they haven't had to shut it down yet.

I totally understand the love of the barn. It was absolutely built for hockey and it's one of the loudest buildings in the league.

But it isn't meeting building codes. Which is why he said if the team came to him now for the franchise, they would not let them play in that building.

I understand the need to upgrade the facility...I know why the commissioner said what he said...I hope reasonable people work this out...if it doesn't work out, I'll be sad but life will go on since more important things fill it out.

Sports Illustrated, as well as Bettman, say NVMC is the worst arena in sports too. SI also has Cholly listed as the 3rd worst owner in hockey and the 4th worst owner in all sports.
