Title: Robbie Schremp Released
Description: should the Islanders give him a shot?
bringbackziggy - September 28, 2009 03:29 PM (GMT)
Robbie Schremp was released by the Oilers, do you guys think the Isles should take a shot on him to see if a change of scenery could do him some good?
I'm kind of on the fence on it, his defensive game isn't very good, and his skating is piss poor. I've also heard he has an attitude problem. But, it would cost us nothing more then a roster spot and if it doesnt work out we could just release him. His best qualities are his vision, stickhandling, and playmaking ability, which make me think he could be a good linemate for Tavares.

we have first dibs and I read on the bleacher report that they felt Snow should snatch him up ASAP.
Kid has great hands, been dicked around in Edmonton, needs a change of scenery.
Question is, would Gordon make same exception for Shcremp with his wackadoo system
he made for Tavares?

as for the enforcer position...Caps released Brandon Sugden.
Thoughts?

Didn't we try that last season? or did Fritz beat him out?
sybo - September 28, 2009 04:07 PM (GMT)
Sugden got a tryout w/ us last season

Sugden had no upside besides as a fighter. Do we need a buy out there who can't skate or shoot?
As for Schremp, aren't we done taking Edmonton rejects (Comrie)? He'd be a great pick-up for fans to start ripping Snow.

it be a good idea to sign him.. cant make the oiler line up but sure could make ours
ooops i read it wrong oilers didnt cut him just assigned him to the minors but he is unhappy in edmonton now prob could get him for cheap

Had this convo with my buddy about a half hour ago. Definitely worth a shot, kid has great talent and he's still young.

I believe he is on waivers, and could be grabbed for nothing. However is he better than any of our own prospects. He would have to play in The NHL because we'd have to put him back on waivers to send him down.

Do it in a second. Especially now.
Good upside, doesn't break the bank and cant be any worse than Tambs.
I think its worth a shot.

One of the reasons I would consider this move is because Franz could be out for quite awhile.
Schemp has a nice skillset but wasn't given much of a chance in Edmonton for SOME reason. I wonder what those reasons are. . . Lazy, doesn't backcheck, hrmm? Anyone watch this kid play at all?

I remember him being such a great prospect when he was drafted, but is he worth a roster spot? He was drafted 25th overall in '04. He only played four games with the Oilers last year. I don't see the Isles taking a flyer on him.
3POTI - September 28, 2009 11:54 PM (GMT)
okay, I now figure it out...if we want the islanders to do something..we have to say the exact opposite.
for example: enforcers????what enforcer? we don't need no sticken enforcers!

He's a kid with absolutly sick hands. I don't see any reason not to give em a shot. He is a skilled foward who could be used on a team with only about 2 already on the roster. If it doesn't cost anything but a roster spot then it would be a no brainer. He doesn't have a lot of speed but I think a tambellini schremp bergenheim line would look pretty good especially considering all 3 have a lot to prove to go along with a lot of talent. And can he be any worse than a younger cheaper Mike Comrie?
Like I said, a no brainer..............................now all we need is someone in management to grow one.

Watched an 8 minute video of him. Kid has an excellent shot. Has a twisted wrister and he can unload a big slap shot as well. But in the NHL, as we've seen with Tambellini, it's a matter of getting space to use that shot. Not sure if he has the ability or the sense to do that, but I think it's worth a chance.

we won't ... someone like toronto or philadelphia or the rags will, and it will turn out okay for them. next.

So, now he's an Islander. Did management grow a brain to satisfy all?
Bexlyspeed - September 29, 2009 07:54 PM (GMT)
Just reading the story on TSN and looked down at all the comments. now usually on TSN when somebody leaves a cnadian team they ripp them to shreds, but all the comments i read seem to think that the change of scenery and the opportunity to play with Tavarez will be just what Robbie needs to have a breakout year. fingers crossed!
