Title: Down with Kate Murray Thread
tonelli27 - September 24, 2009 05:09 PM (GMT)
Attention all New York Islanders fans
Lets start a grass root effort to prevent Kate Murray from being re-elected. Pass the word around the Town Of Hempstead. Talk to neighbors, friends, shop owners. . .etc explain how this is good for all of Long Island not just TOH and Islanders fans. With a strong effort maybe we the people can show our muscle and prevent this thick headed politician from being re-elected.
Webb20 - September 24, 2009 05:10 PM (GMT)
I doubt you're going to find the support to anticipate.

How about Charles Wang pays for this. You know, since he helped launch Isles games
being broadcast in Mandarin Chinese and Project Hope to spread Hockey to China.
Maybe he can get ALL the Chinese or Chinese American Islanders fans to do as he says and support the Lighthouse by leaving work early to be there for all his requests surrounding the Lighthouse.
This Islander fan has read enough over the last few months to know that through all the legaleze, one Kate Murrays stance (and those little speed bumps for Wang to make provisions to BUILD the Coliseum 1st) do more for our long term stability than Wang's greedy LH empire project demands and threats have.
Almost every Islander fan is slowly getting sick and tired of Wang's, it's my way approach.
We all know they'll continue discussions and eventually compromise (when Wang bends or scales down).
Would be funny if they're all in cahoots to simply make a huge public spectacle to garner as much federal/state stimulus money and support for this thing.

All the doubt sucks
You don't now until you try.
How many people on this board live in the TOH???
My parents are in the TOH and they are not voting for Murray, and so are their neighbors.
The way to make the politicians know that we are serious is to hit them where it hurts. The politicians that sit on that board have a holier than thou attitude. It is just the TOH board that is against it, Senator Schumer & Gov. Patterson are for it. But it Kate Murray can & will kill it.
Again I am not asking for people to hit the streets and riot. Start a conversation with your neighbor & shop owners and see what they think.
You never know unless you try.

Murray will be fine in the next election.
I'm with SteveDepot. I want the Islanders to stay, there should be no question of that. But I'm not willing to give Wang permission to build a mini "empire" or "megalopolis in the center of nassau" (terms I did not coin but fully agree with) either.
Wang needs to compromise. I did not like the whole plan since it was first unveiled and he resisted any criticism that it was too big from the onset and continues to resist scaling down so far.
This should not be a case of "It's Wang's World and we all just live in it." If he's willing to drop billions to do something, here's an idea: buy out the SMG contract that's been touted as being so cost prohibitive to do, revamp the Coliseum and some minor surrounding stuff and guess what? It'll be a heckuva lot cheaper than what he plans to drop on the LH. Had he done that he probably would've gotten full cooperation from the authorities to get more mass transit connectivity to the Coliseum area which would benefit everyone and make a big dent in the traffic congestion.
My two cents. I'm just tired of it all. I just want to see the Isles IN Nassau IN OUR ROYAL BLUE. Too much to ask I suppose.

From what he's been saying about Oct. 3. I got the impression that he wants a yes/no/what do I have to do answer. Meaning, tell me either yes as is, no altogether, or tell me how to change it to make it acceptable.
That's all he wants, I think he will be fine with a counter offer for a smaller plan, it's just a matter of getting an answer.
He's not going to change his proposal unless he's asked to by Murray, but he hasn't been asked to since he downgraded it once before.
DannyBinAtlanta - September 25, 2009 02:55 PM (GMT)
Yeah you may be right. Hopefully the pols are going to make a very good counter-offer and not just say "we don't like this this and this, so fix 'em." With all of Murray's connections, there's no way she (and others) don't have the resources to get knowledgeable insight on some possible ideas to move this thing forward.

Gee, I really really hope Chris Dey and Co read your post, Bill. Because if you're fed up with the Lighthouse dominating all Islander news that means 98% of ALL Islander fans are too. This management better get their heads out of their asses an realize they are now hurting themselves in the PR arena and understand their fans dont want the Lighthouse and the Islanders to be one in the same.

I think some of you better clue into the fact these people are tired of losing 20m a year because Nassau-TOH are minor league when it comes to pro sports. No PR in the world changes the fact this team could sell out every game and lose big money.
These things have to be one in the same because Nassau County and TOH refuse to buyout Smg, renovate their own building or construct a new one for Wang or any Islander owner.
How many times has Tom Suozzi said Nassau County has no money to do anything with the Nassau Coliseum. It's not like Wang showed up when he bought the club with LH plans like Milstein did shortly afterward.
Some of you folks really expect Wang to pay for a new Coliseum or a 400m dollar renovation so Smg and Nassau/TOH can keep all the revenue from it while not contributing anything to it and lose all this money on hockey players?
That's not realistic.
Wang asked for what every other team got when they constructed new buildings, greedy Nassau and the TOH would not give him what Mets, Yankees, Msg, Devils got.
This is why they came up with the Lighthouse.
I got a great idea, Islander fans should pay for a new Coliseum, Smg should get all the profits from every event with the concessions, parking and advertising with Nassau getting all the tax windfall.
If the club losses money you should pay even more.
Welcome to Wang's world.

Our interest lies in the TEAM...not the politics, land deal, finacial woes and regrets of the current MISmanagement. Oh yeah...they had us ALL on board for a while...none of want the team to leave...BUT...the LH is now overshadowing what brought us here in the first place. Let's not forget all the budget cuts and penny pinching we are seeing with the team...while millions are thrown at getting the land deal done.

Some of us have been around long before Wang.
We've supported this team and all we've asked in return was hard work from the players.
I've never asked players to leave work early to make a community hearing for my benefit.
Scrap that last sentence, let's get down to the nitty gritty.
Why is Wang using the Islanders and the fanbase as a vehicle for support to get this monstrous LH approved and NOT agree to provisions like REBUILDING the Coliseum FIRST and NOT selling off any portions of the project before completion???
Can YOU answer that?

sybo,
but but but but "butt"
we don't get it, like, Wang is like, "losing" millions every year!!!
20-30 million depending on the source. He cares about Long Island Hockey.
He's done everything to keep them here, we OWE him a favor of believing everything he says.
I think Nick said it best a while ago.
NEVER EVER have I had to work this hard to at being an Islanders fan.
It IS possible to want this project, on some level to go through.
But, what the PRO-WANG peanut gallery doesn't get is that some of us want him
to stop the veiled threats and negotiate and most of all, answer those 2 questions I posed in the previous entry.
At a time when we should be celebrating Tavares' 1st season and looking forward to
the maturation progress of guys like Bergenheim, Comeau and Bailey...
we have to look at that ominous cloud Charles Wang's greed has cast over all of us thanks to his long term dealings with one Alfonse D'Amato who benefits from this no matter what direction is taken.

Let's get down to the nitty gritty.
Why is Wang using the fanbase to get this approved? Because he would rather do that then have you do what you did a decade ago and blame Nassau-TOH for making it impossible for any Islander owner to break even if all the games were sold out by failing to pay for a new Coliseum themselves so Wang/whoever can let everyone focus on hockey.
It's not Wang's fault Nassau/TOH refuse to make that building profitable or sustainable for whoever owns the Isles while everyone else got ownership of their new buildings and tons of tax credits and bonds. It's also not Wang's fault Nassau and TOH will not clean up their Smg mess.
***************************************************
How many times has Wang said the Coliseum gets done first and put in in writing in the last few years? It's in the EIS, it was in countless Newsday interviews and articles and it was in his presentation this week as part of the official presentation.
http://www.lighthouseli.com/news/show/id/458• 831,500 square feet of a completely transformed Coliseum. This facility is over 400,000 square feet larger than the current facility. The transformed facility will have, among other improvements, multiple concourses (in contrast to today's heavily congested single concourse); new seats (in contrast to today's mix and match seats from the early 80s), the latest in technology advancements (in contrast to today's facility, where the roof can't support some of the entertainer's equipment), sufficient restrooms (in contrast to today's insufficient quantity and to obviate the need for the current outdoor facilities), and varied food options (in contrast to today's limited game or event offerings).
This transformation will take 2-3 years and will be the first building started. This is a man in his mid-sixties with tons of debt owing this team and it will be sold several times over 99 years, buyers were not lining up to take on the Coliseum problem in 2005, the idea is something gets built because that concrete parking lot is not making money for Nassau-TOH, Wang, any Islander owner.
Were just hockey fans and don't want to pay a lot for tickets, Wang's tired of taking it on the chin losing huge money in an impossible situation that he would lose if every game were sold out.
Smg takes eleven percent of the gate, forty percent of all advertising, all parking and concessions and Wang should not only lose all that money but pay to renovate Nassau and TOH building?
There is your answer.

You cannot point to a body of text and say, your answer lies in there. Look it up.
"first building started..." doesn't mean 1st building completed...
TOH wants assurances that it will be and no portions of the project will be sold off.

So what would you like as an answer besides Charles Wang coming to your home and signing official documents in front of you as proof?
You are actually writing after years of saying the Coliseum will be done first after it being in the EIS which is an official document
http://www.lighthouseli.com/media/download and countless Newspaper articles and yesterday's presentation he's lying?
The MOU signed in 2006 promises the Coliseum would have been done by 2009 and has the lease agreement until 2025. By all means go to Nassau County government and look up the legal binding agreements with third party witnesses.
Suozzi cared more about his minor league baseball stadium then the Islanders with his agreement.
How do you know what assurances have or have not been given for some things?
All I know is Kate Murray when she was not hiring Westchester firms for a LI project and making sure daddy was getting his hundred grand knew four years ago Wang was offering only a ten year lease extension on the Coliseum because it's in the MOU from 2005-06.
She really needed four years to wake up and demand Wang change his agreement to thirty years after a renovation? I like the longer lease too but isn't she playing the fans here herself because four years ago I noticed that on day one and wondered why only ten years.
How can Wang-Rechler or any person sign a 99 year lease and not say no portions of the project will not be sold off, sooner or later that will happen for the entire project unless it's a long line of billion dollar families with kids to run the business?
What's next Larry Silverstein has to live to 160 years old.

Feel free to be as indifferent about a rich man's financial woes as you like but a decade ago no one with actual money was stepping up to buy this team after years of it being run at fourteen million until this man who never saw this team win anything did.
His second summer he spent 130 million dollars on player contracts and win or lose to date not one check bounced. He honored and brought back a lot of former players John Pickett did not look out for, he's been visible and taken the fan abuse every time he made a bad decision unlike past owners and when Roy Boe II again was headed for bankruptcy Charles Wang paid for him and gave us an AHL affiliate after years of nothing.
Charles Wang back in 2003 said this is not a church that will stay open forever and 200 million later the party is over whether you care or not.
Most things he does I don't like and think are bad hockey decisions but no one else cared enough to even try.
If he puts the team up for sale and they move after 2015 I hope you remember your indifference now because I guarantee as long as Smg, Nassau and TOH make it impossible for potential Islander owners and as long as Nassau/TOH don't fix up their own building no one is coming forward to put up with what Wang has.
Who's payroll are you on to ignore or be this indifferent to what Nassau County's and the TOH's record has been regarding this team for almost twenty years?
Seems to me everyone in Wang's pocket never criticizes Suozzi while I blame him even more than Kate Murray.
Enjoy your indifference.

His slogan has been, "Meet me at the Light House".
Just like Bill Clinton's slogan during his presidency was, "Blow me in the White House"
Too bad we can't vote to impeach Wang.

MAYBE THIS YEAR
INSTEAD OF HEARING "TRICK OR TREAT FOR UNICEF"
WE'LL HEAR "TRICK OR TREAT FOR CHARLES WANG"

Considering he regrets buying the team at this point no doubt he wishes he could impeach himself considering the crooks he is dealing with.
I would not even wish what Wang puts up with on James Dolan.
I don't know if I trust Wang but this is the same person demanding local construction who's looking out for Islander fans? LOL.
Let me borrow some funny faces, Steve.
http://www.newsday.com/long-island/politic...-time-1.1232340Hempstead chief's retired dad makes $40/hour part-time
Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray's 83-year-old father retired from his six-figure job in the town attorney's office on a Friday in November. He returned to work the following Monday, in the same office, as a part-time clerical aide, receiving $40 an hour. That's three times the average pay of about $13 to $14 per hour townwide for the part-time position, payroll records show. And it's more than double the average pay of $17 an hour for clerical aides in the town attorney's office. One retired town employee makes more than Norman Murray as a clerical aide, town officials said, being paid $45 an hour. "The town actively seeks to recruit retired employees," the supervisor said through town spokesman Michael Deery on Friday. "Their institutional knowledge is invaluable and they're cost-effective alternatives to full-time staffing. All of our returnees are paid according to their skill level and talent." The rehiring is legal, according to the New York State comptroller's office, because Norman Murray returned to a different position. A new pension reform law that went into effect Oct. 7, 2008, prohibits retirees from returning to work in the same or similar position for a period of one year following retirement. If you do return to work for the same employer, there are earnings limits until you turn 65, state officials said. Murray, of Levittown, retired from his job as a law assistant in the town attorney's office on Friday, Nov. 28, 2008. He was hired as one of seven part-time clerical aides in the same office on Monday, Dec. 1, 2008. And he'll be receiving an annual public pension of $49,188.

How about the crooks he's dealt and or still dealing with.

...how much they paying you these days anyway? I hope you didn't get hit with any of those team cut-backs. I guess it depends which end ur working on...if it's the team side...i'd say u took a pretty significant pay cut. If ur in the LH division...well I'm sure u got a sizable raise. |

UR one hell of a crusader I'll give ya that...I guess that's why they hired you...
Thanx for another long winded history lesson...it helps remind me why i am so indifferent.
Let me put it to you in more simple terms...then maybe you'll get it: When I read a book, I'm looking to be entertained by the story. ....who published it and where the paper was made are meaningless to me. Same goes w/ hockey... ;)
...if they move, he sells, so be it... I'll enjoy THE GAMES while I can...because that's what interests me.
