Description: Pittsburgh Penguins Launch HD Radio Chan

The HD channel will feature Pittsburgh area native Steve Mears as host of a daily show, “Penguins Live,” from 9:30 a.m.- 12 noon each weekday during the season. Mears, 29, spent the last three seasons as the radio play-by-play voice for the New York Islanders. A native of Murrysville and a graduate of Franklin Regional High School, Mears grew up as a Penguins fan, idolizing Mario Lemieux and Mike Lange.
“As a lifelong Penguins fan, the opportunity to come home, work for the organization and help create this new HD channel is a dream come true,” Mears said.
Mears will be joined by Pittsburgh radio personality Tom Grimm, who also will produce “Penguins Live.” |
Talk about an upgrade

He should still be working for us, he was very good.

Another asinine move by Dey. I think somewhere I read that Asinine was his middle name.

He shouldn't be THERE in the first place. Damn Chris Dey.

You forgot "Damn budget cuts." Because that's what it boiled down to. It's not like Dey walks around saying "You! I don't like your shoes. You're fired."
The organization is given a budget and told make it work. LOTS of things got cut, you know that.
I don't know how the lack of radio team coverage will work. I'm waiting for Billy Jaffe to be back in town to talk to him about it.
And yes, I wish they could have kept Steve. He really did the Islanders proud while he was here. So did Kinger.

Oh please. From what I was told by Dey the entire radio ops cost as much as an one entry level player. 1/2 of what Tambellini earns and they were at the top of their game every game.
It comes down to the ISLANDERS ARE CHEAP.
