Title: Murray throws more gas into the Fire
Description: and pisses off Suozi now...
Ziggy16 - September 11, 2009 02:50 AM (GMT)
Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray sent a letter to Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi Thursday saying she and the other town board members "will be looking for" specific provisions in the county's lease with the developers of the Lighthouse project before the board approves zoning for the site.
The letter was met with surprise and anger by Suozzi and Lighthouse principal investor Charles Wang.
But Murray, in an interview Thursday night, said the provisions should come as no surprise. "There are no new issues," she said. "Both Suozzi and Wang have talked about them for years."
She said the board is "just trying to crystallize the points that have been talked about ad nauseam." And she said as the final hearing, on Sept. 22, approaches, "this is exactly the time to make sure all the t's are crossed and the i's dotted.
The Lighthouse project calls for a mixed-use development on 150 county-owned acres surrounding Nassau Coliseum.
Murray's letter calls for measures such as requiring renovation of Nassau Coliseum first to prevent the developer from selling his development rights or seeking tax breaks once the project is approved.
Wang said Thursday he was "disappointed and frustrated" by the town's latest move. In recent months he has accused the town of slowing the approval process.
Wang, the owner of the New York Islanders, has said if he doesn't have the go-ahead by Oct. 3 - the start of the hockey season - he will "explore all other options."
"After nearly eight years, Kate Murray has decided to unleash multiple demands to once again delay and jeopardize the Lighthouse project with only a few weeks before the October 3rd certainty date," he said. "This project, with all its benefits in this tough economic climate, constantly falls into political roadblocks."
Suozzi, who has said the lease is "99 percent complete" and ready to be presented to the Nassau County Legislature, said Thursday he hopes Murray's letter "doesn't chase the Islanders out of town."
"It's hard to imagine that with only 23 days until the hockey season begins, Supervisor Murray would bring up 10 new issues that could have been discussed at any time during the past three years," he said.
Lighthouse principals have said the development would create thousands of construction jobs and generate millions of dollars in tax revenue. Murray said Thursday she wants those measures in writing.
Her letter said the provisions are necessary to protect town residents "against the possibility of an Islanders departure after the real estate is rezoned," a move that would permit "a significant intensification of use."
It also said the town expects the county not to complete a lease until the town board reaches a consensus about the Lighthouse proposal after the Sept. 22 zoning hearing.

Murray isn't helping her bid for re-election. It's ok, let her dig her grave a few feet deeper. Fine by my helmet.

Just another 20-something days and this seemingly endless process will finally come to an end.
Is it hockey season yet?

Ya know what, good for Kate. I don't trust Wang or her as far as I could throw them and yes this is all politics and games for delay but I like that she wants something in writing about developing the Coliseum first. Screw Cholly and his league low payroll, GM and coach and no radio or sponsored blog. Put it in writing Chuck.

AGAIN, no one sees what is happening?
Murray is protecting Isles fans from Cholly and Suozzi and Rexlercorpler....whatever the screwup son calls it.
THE ISLES cannot leave if she gets her way. No Isles, no deal.
No Coliseum first, ensuring the Isles stay and thrive, NO DEAL.
Murray is becoming our best friend. Cholly (league low payroll below the cap if Tavares doesn't hit bonuses) can sell the team right now and move them with his county assisted loophole he created.
Murray gets her way, Cholly has to keep the team here and do the Coliseum before any other BS.
And Suozzi and Wang are upset.
Very telling.

I'm holding back judgement until I read the full list of Stipulations.
The article goes in to a few points which makes the TOH seem reasonable, but let's not forget Eden Laiken is Murray's fluffer after all.

THAT IS NOT THE POINT!!!
Of course all Isles fans should be encouraged Big Bertha wants some guarantees the Isles stay and the Coliseum will get renovated first. Sounds great.
Why is this coming out now? With all of the inactivity over the past several years, you really think she cares about these provisions? Why wouldn't they have been addressed by her office previously? This is politicking at its finest (and I mean that genuinely). She is now trying to restore some credibility with Isles fans while challenging Cholly's self imposed arbitrary deadline.
She know exactly what she is doing. She is playing an impressive game of one-upmanship with Cholly through the press.
But if she gets those guarantees in writing...I will be happy! Could have been done sooner.
But it must be Chris Dey's fault, along with Cholly's grandfather and second niece.
Shooter - September 11, 2009 12:22 PM (GMT)
She wants it in writing. Good for her. If the county is going to put a good deal of taxpayer money to work, the Isles must stay. To be honest, after Wang's comments about regretting buying the Islanders, he lost me. If they go, so be it. I'll find other ways to spend my hard earned money. Peace.

I have no problem with Murray's writing demand whatsoever. None.
Maybe she is indeed on board here. She wants guarantees this team won't move......every Isles fan should be rejoicing with that demand.

Bingo!
I don't need to read anymore. At first, like most I was swayed and bought everything Wang said.
Then I realized there was plenty of blame to go around and these "New provisions" are NOTHING new, just what Wang and Suozzi are spinning for public consumption.
Good for Murray. Wang wants his cake, wants to eat it and at the precise time too.

EXACTLY.
Wang is no saint (FRAUD). Suozzi is a Nassau Politician (kiss your baby and take his blanket then charge you with indecency?). Murray is fasttracking a KNOWN long term process (as per state law) while Wang and Suozzi cry foul.
Wang wants Murray to break state law, in other words, like he broke federal law by redesigning the calender to lie to shareholders and profit. Does this just make one believe he'll be honest about spending on a decent team once he gets his small city? Or do you think his character as shown could make it possible he sells the Isles off and demands he be able to develop the Coliseum property into something else since there's no professional sports team anymore?
Murray LEGALLY ENSURES this won't happen and Jackace and many other Kool Aid imbibers are angry. I'm thrilled now.
Wang angry he has to keep the team? Says a LOT!

The goal is Islander hockey remaining on LI to us......it seems Wang's project is yours? Murray just made it a point to ensure the Islanders stay or NO PROJECT. Or did you read the quoted article?

So he has a letter telling him he better stick to his word or else. And Wang's angry he has to deal with this? He should sign right away and alleviate the 'delay' instantly and there WOULD BE NO DELAY if he's true to his word (self financed, about the Isles and not real estate).
Again, Wang's reaction is telling.
And ignoring the facts in that state law prohibits the fasttracking Wang demands? Funny. A law breaker like Wang showing more disdain for the law and we shouldn't be cautious as we witnessed Wang defraud his shareholders? :letssee:

Isn't the lease what is in writing? Didn't Suozzi say that a lease is near complete, and ready to go to Nassau? What more do Murray, and some of Islander fans want in writing? Should the lease be signed with Cholly's blood like poor, deluded Dr. Faustus?

I am confused here. The town expects the county not to complete the lease, but she wants a promise in writing that if the re-zone happens the Isles won't seek another home. If the town and county work together to get the area re-zoned with a lease that protects the TOH.... everything should be fine. Maybe the lease shouldn't be finalized until the re-zoning hearing, but a complete lease would be beneficial for the re-zone hearing because you would see exactly what the county, and the Isles expect of the property, and can make changes, or re-zone accordingly. I don't understand politics. No one operates in good faith, or in honesty. Everything is a game to one-up someone, and fans, or citizens get caught in the middle. I bet an ordinary citizen could write a lease, and re-zone the land faster with less bull.

| Murray is fasttracking a KNOWN long term process (as per state law) |
This had me laughing too because I think it is safe to say that after umpteen years, nothing in this project has been "fasttracked". When the gov. even says he wants to get a member of his staff involved to expedite matter, I don't think its been fasttracked by those previously.
Jack... wow. Let me know when you call Jim Rome. I'll tune in. That was awesome.
Bottom line, OTH can see all the conspiracies and black helicopters that are no doubt owned by Wang that he wants. Jack can take the opposite tact all he wants. All fine by me. Yes, the "Wang is Satan" act gets old quick. So does the "Lighthouse exactly has Wang wants it" bit.
What concerns me, and why I give Murray absolutely NO CREDIBILITY (sorry OTH) is that with Nassau Co and the Governor's office on board, some form of project was going to get done eventually IMHO. There is too much against the TOH in the form of the County, Governor and Wang for K.M. to stop it. It is obviously her only realistic position will be to get a scaled back version of the plan...but I've seen nor heard nothing from the TOH to see what will need to be cut back or scaled down for them to give the go ahead. And for those who think "that will come once the hearing happens", there isn't enough time between the hearing and Wang's drop dead date for that to happen, but there has been plenty of time this summer for Murray to come out with what she thinks need to be removed from the plan.
No one is infalable and, unless you are talking about chainmurders, Bernie Madoff or STalin and Hitler, no one is Satan. But I choose to paint Murray with the black hat in this senario. Wangs is more a touch of gray. JMHO. I usually don't side with owners, especially if public money gets involved, but he's rennovating a public facility and after having seen other facilities on the east coast, something MUST be done. It is my belief that if nothing gets done by Oct 3, not only will the Isles be gone within 5 years, but there will be no ice capades, concerts or anything else at NVMC because it will close. It is that bad and outdated.
So in the end, it is what it is I guess...

on a side note...
Where is all the outrage from Yankees fans? Wang gets raked over the coals by some for spending issues and the Lighthouse plan...ok fine.
But the Yankees & NYC DEFRAUDED the United States government in gaining federal funds and tax breaks to get the new stadium done. The Yankess and NYC reported the property the land they would use for the current new stadium as equal in value to property in mid-town Manhattan (its not even close) and that overestimation by 4-5x the value brought in Federal tax breaks and federal monies to build the stadium.
And when that happened...the Yankees jacked up ticket prices so many of their fans couldn't renew and only corporations could by field level seats...some of the same corporations that caused the financial meltdown in the first place.
And when the Yankees make it to the playoffs, the ticket prices will ACTUALLY LOWER because MLB controls the cost of playoff tickets, not the individual teams.
I'm just curious if those who have been critical of the Lighthouse in any version and are Yankees fans have been critical of the Yankees for defrauding the nation's coffers? Congress is already holding hearings on it.
