Title: We Don't Want Zherdev, right?
clebo99 - August 4, 2009 12:31 AM (GMT)
I always thought that he was a good move for the Rangers last year.....Good be a good pickup. He's only 24, right?
timotime - August 4, 2009 12:40 AM (GMT)
on the contrary, he'd be a perfect fit; a pure scoring winger (who has already posted multiple 20+ goal seasons with 60 points) who can still grow with the young team. he'd be an ideal third guy to play with Tavares and Weight this season.

Depends upon which Zherdev shows up?
Will the real Nikolai Zherdev please stand up...

I just hope Okposo does for a little and see how it works out.
Shooter - August 4, 2009 12:30 PM (GMT)
Is he better than Tambellini? Is he better than the other jokers they bring up from Bridgeport?
Tavarizard - August 4, 2009 03:08 PM (GMT)
I wouldn't want him.
The guy's lazy, is nonexistent in his own end, and even then isn't that great of a scorer.
To me, his skills offensively are eclipsed by his lack of enthusiasm and hustle.
Just say "no".
robmneilson - August 4, 2009 05:40 PM (GMT)
He's got the skills, but he will never put them all together and probably won't backcheck if his life depended on it.
Especially if he wants 3.9 mil or above I'd say no....but if he could be signed for 2 million bucks I would be down.

never put them all together? he's already had two seasons of around 60 points, and would have been our best player last year by leaps and bounds.

as expected, the rangers declined zherdev's arbitration number, making him a UFA.

On a team with impressionable young kids battling for jobs.
The last thing you want to do is add any player (like Zherdev) who makes 4 million or more
for them to look up when that player has lazy tendencies.
Skilled guys like Comrie who don't work hard in all 3 zones are very poor examples on a rebuilding team.
Sign or develop someone who works hard on the ice and off and has great work habits.
Enjoy the KHL NZ.

Why should we bring another Alexei Yashin, do any of us remember he wanted a raise in Columbus or he'll go back to Russia.

I see what you are getting at Steve and part of me agrees
however , I think the core of our youth has so much good character/work ethic that it would actually rub any enigmatic player in a positive way .

AGREE with Steve. He is not a hustler. He has tremendous skill, but he's not as talented as a Yashin. He reminds me too much of a Kozlov. He has great O skill, but takes a ton of nights off, needs guys to get him the puck and he's only noticeable on certain nights below the opponents blueline. He's never shown up in center ice or his own end.
If the Isles sign him, it better not be for more than a 2 year deal, but I hope we steer clear of him.
but he's still better than Tamby.

I vote with Steve and Shooter too. I'd much rather see a Joensuu or DiBenedetto come up and grow before our eyes.
Tavarizard - August 10, 2009 11:18 PM (GMT)
A player who scores around 60 points, plays with no heart, and is nonexistent in his own end is not worth the 3.7(?) that he is asking for.
The guy is probably headed over to the KHL, hope he has a blast.
