The Islanders acquired the big-ticket goaltender Chris Osgood
at noon yesterday with the idea of keeping him for a long time.
Barely an hour later, Osgood said that at the very least,
his new team was capable of making the Stanley Cup playoffs.

:quiet:

SO MUCH FOR THEIR IDEA OF A LONG TIME

AND THANKS FOR MAKING ME GO "OHH WHAT NOW?"

What's funny is, when we shipped him to the Blues Osgood's career looked like it was near over.

Who would have thought that he'd outlast Justin Papineau, let alone become a high end player again?

i Disagree. his career was fine. he was going through a few injuries at that time, but he played extremely well for us and i don't care what anyone says he is the main reason we got back into the playoffs.
the problem was he didnt, at the time want to sign a long term deal with us, something he himself said almost immediately that he regretted. the guy was pure class with us and despite him being here for a short time he is one of my favorite Islanders ever

You must be talking about Justin Papsmear. He was the cant miss prospect that was going to push Justin Mapletoft off the team.

Osgood blew it. He was offered a nice deal by MM but got an inflated ego after a 1/2 of season of good work. He stunk in the playoffs too and then was a miserable bloke the next year. He had to go suck some humility with the Blues before he got back on track. Then again, as I've said before, a monkey could guard the net for the Red Wings and win.

In the end, I believe he ended signing the same deal with the Blues that he turned down from us. He thought he'd get more or deserved more and I'm pretty sure the deal he signed with the Blues was for the same years and $$ that MM offered.

No problem. Ozzy thought the market was bigger for him. He was mistaken. I'm sure the injury plagued 02-03 season hurt his marketability. Too bad because I always thought he was a good guy who was constantly underestimated by the Wings.

He "stunk" in the playoffs? Don't recall that.

How many Stanley cup final goaltenders have "stunk"? I'm scratching my head on that one.

He has won what?? 3 cups in his career? That hardly qualifies for the category of "stunk"

Years from now he'll be a grand Papi and tell his grandkids a different story.

Same with me! I was like "Holy crap DeePs is done", and then I read down the article a little bit and I saw "this move comes after aquaring (ok, that's misspelled) Alexi Yashin and Michael Peca. And then I was sad.

Oh, and they spelled Alexi "Aleksei".

I have to disagree with you shooter, he played hurt in that series against the Leafs, so you can't really get on him.
