Wolkoff contends that the residents of his mini-town will have so many amenities within walking distance, they won't need cars. And with low-flow toilets, shower heads and washing machines, Wolkoff says residents will generate half as much wastewater as technical guidelines predict.

Developer Gerald Wolkoff has cleared a hurdle in his bid to build Heartland Town Square, a $4-billion mixed-use project on the Pilgrim State Psychiatric Center site in Brentwood.

In an unusual move that allows the public comment period to begin despite a long list of unresolved issues, the Islip Town board has approved the developer's draft generic environmental impact statement.

Negotiations on the project had stalled as the town and developer clashed over subjects ranging from traffic and parking to wastewater and outdoor recreational facilities for children.

The document approved by the board lists some 20 points on which the two parties still disagree.

This is pretty sad when politicians can't put politics aside and think about whats best for the people. They can make all the speeches and promises they want but at the end of the day most of them come up short as huge bull***t artists.

Would you vote for an honest man or the most captivating politician for office?

It's everyone's fault for voting these twits in. And it all dates back to Adams/Jefferson on the need for political parties in the United States. The best man doesn't win, just the flashiest.

that's funny about pilgrim state. i remember as a kid sneaking/exploring the site, going in the tunnels and houses and picturing a twilight zone moment.

then i heard they were eventually going to build an aquarium. would have been neat.

and the coliseum is...still in a sea of concrete :crying2:

Hours before those eye-catching finales, the Islanders announced that owner Charles Wang's Lighthouse Development group had provided needed responses for an environmental impact statement. That, the developers said, could lead to a public hearing in May, which could be a big step in getting the renovated Coliseum that could keep the franchise here. It was all a reminder that the Islanders' most major move of the season was scheduling a 2009 preseason game in Kansas City, a not-so-subtle hint.

OlTimeHockey - April 29, 2009 03:49 PM (GMT)
The renovated Coliseum did not need an environmental impact study and could have been done at any time, as approval was grandfathered in with the original approval done when originally built.

The new environmental study probably is oozing with questions. Sewage/infrastructure/traffic questions? Love to find the solutions posed on those.

And the KC game was the impetus for all things going in motion? How about it took as long as expected in spite of Wang holding his breath, having tantrums and putting an out clause in to finally allow him to move the team before 2015? This writer has the saavy grasp of the situation one might expect from Chris Day with this team.

The new environmental study probably is oozing with questions Kate Murray may be able to shed light on.

As the Lighthouse group did resubmit the DEGIS, public hearings should be scheduled by the Town of Hempstead.

I would like to emplore any Nassau County resident 18 years or older who is NOT registered to VOTE to do so!

The County and the TOWN are watching voter registrations carefully. IF this is a political battle, and we know it is, the simple of ACT of registering to vote may help the cause!

BESIDES -- it's your right and your duty especially in this economic and financial climate.

Check myblog. The link is there for the website. You can download the form and mail it in!
