Title: Lighthouse Project Meeting 3/26/09 7 pm
7th Woman - March 18, 2009 05:41 PM (GMT)
Hey guys. Just met with Katrina from the Lighthouse project. We were talking about the upcoming community meeting at the Marriott on 3/26/09 at 7 pm in the Grand ballroom.
If you have any desire for this project to be built, or for the Islanders to stay firmly planted on Long Island, it would be in everyone's best interest if this is the ONE thing you showed support for.
It's not during the day. It's not at town hall. This is for the fans who can't take off work just to show they support the project and the team.
Local government officials have been invited and should be there.
Please check the LightPost blogspot for further details.
Tell any of your friends who do NOT read message boards and internet feeds about this meeting if you can.
See you there.
Thanks

THEY WANT A CROWD
OFFER NICKLE BEER NIGHT AT CHAMPIONS
THEN THE AERIAL VIEW WOULD LOOK LIKE THAT "i"M UGLY AS SIN BUT I WANNA BE A TOP MODEL" FIASCO
ARE THEY OFFERING TO DRIVE YOU THERE AND BRING YOU BACK HOME?
REFRESHMENTS BEING SERVED?
INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW

it's a question and answer session.
on the blog found here
http://www.lighthouseliblog.blogspot.com/they say the "Government leaders" are invited but no mention if they plan on attending.
To me, this is more of a rally for support and that's fine but I think it's already obvious
that most Isles fans WANT this thing to go forward but if the "Government leaders" aren't going to be there, what's the point?
Regurgitation.
I guess I don't really love the Islanders enough to make it then.
So much about this Lighthouse and more and more it bugs me for some reason.
We get it Charlie, you want profit. We get it TOH, there's red tape.
Come to a resolution so we can just watch our team, be it here or elsewhere.
All this blogapoloosa rally calling seems like regurgitated public awareness.
I just want to watch hockey, not have to work at it.
7th Woman - March 18, 2009 06:39 PM (GMT)
Steve
They have not received 100% confirmation WHICH politicos will attend, which is why there is no mention of the names.
I'm not going to argue with you.
Come if you can or if you want.
but I think it will annoy everyone more if Long Island loses it's only major sports franchise.

I know, it's obvious (reading the blog announcement) and not arguing.
Just expressing how all the regurgitation of this thing is wearing on me
and alot of other isles fans I know.
If Long Island loses the Islanders, so be it. I highly doubt that day will happen in our lifetime. HIGHLY doubt it.
I don't buy the posturing, negative-hype and Wang's recent transformation to the purveyor of fear
from his KC chucklefest with Howie Rose recently.
That comic, Larry the Cable Guy has that saying..
"get R done".
get r done, or don't.
There are other teams in worse shape. Problem is, TOH probably knows this too.
7th Woman - March 18, 2009 06:56 PM (GMT)
If they can't do this, he will probably sell the team.
if he sells the team, they will move the team.
It can happen. It will happen. No one will relocate this team within NY.
sorry you're tired of hearing it.
stevedepot - March 18, 2009 07:06 PM (GMT)
I don't know about that,
if he was foolish enough to sell the team to someone who moved them when the lease expired
that would ruin his legacy of being a pioneer in business among Long Islanders.
Possible yes, probable no is my guess and if I were a betting man I'd take that bet.
I wonder, if Wang ever did sell, would he then be required to make the books public?
Then we could see if he really is being bled yearly or if creativity extends beyond the current marketing initiatives.
:dontknow:
Webb20 - March 18, 2009 07:10 PM (GMT)
Why would he sell the team to someone who'll move them when the lease runs out? Why not just move the team to a profitable city himself when the lease runs out. It doesnt make sense. We know he's in it for the real estate and not to be a hockey team owner, maybe by 2015 some wealthy hockey lover on LI will step up to the plate and take it off his hands when he's denied for the 100th time to start construction.
7th Woman - March 18, 2009 07:16 PM (GMT)
If the team is sold, the NHL would not let them play in that arena the way it is.
And yes... he is losing money the way he says he is.
and...
I just lost another friend there as there have been more layoffs.
So.. no matter what you think. Everyone has a breaking point.
Many teams have been sold by owners who loved hockey, but just coudlnt' take it any more. Many teams have been BOUGHT by people who LOVE hockey but don't realize how difficult it is to make money at it.
We'll just have to wait and see.

You don't know that. The offers from Queens seem reasonable and hopefully 1 day feasible. You don't leave NY for KC or Vegas or Saskatoon etc. Ya leave NY for LA as the Dodgers did but NYI aren't going there.
I can appreciate the concern and all but they already know what Wang wants and they know what NYI fans want. What matters is what TOH citizens want. You're just preaching to the choir here.
Between STIC and now this it seems like more time is spent on the future of the franchise than the games themselves.

If Charles gets his way, call it "Wang's World."

since that building belongs to Nassau County, I don't know what they can do about naming it.

The team sold, the team plays at the NVMC as they are obligated to (until Wang gets his out clause).
The NHL has no say as to where the team can remain and the building passes muster so it's good. They CAN ask the owner of said asset to spend money not belonging to the league on a venue not belonging to the league to improve it for the league image, but that'd be ridiculous expecting such. Maybe they'll remove the Islanders from the NHL (the extent of their power, I believe)?
Whatever Bettman says, as per the arena being outdated.....a new owner can come in and overhaul it day one and remain on LI.
Moving because the NHL won't allow the team to remain there.....that's why I can't get behind the fearmongering side of the debate.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if Wang sells, he sells an asset that is legally obligated to be held at a specified location until 2015, correct?
I wonder when Wang decides he has to buy out SMG and make the missing 1/3 of the ticket revenue and other revenues he could have gotten from day one? Poor guy! It's not his fault he didn't buy his buddy D'Amato's company out some years ago.....it was the building's fault.:P
Hope he sells for a huge loss and ends this hostage crisis. Someone once was trying hard as hades to buy this team and redo the arena without the pork projects. He was meeting with SMG the day Wang "saved us." Truly a nightmare of epic proportions.

I believe once Wang gets the right to lease all of the land and buildings in the LH Project, he has naming rights and full control of leased property.
I believe they'd have to actually include a rider clause to ensure it stays for the veterans and not for Computer Associates or Enron or Worldcom or whoever Chuck is paid by.

Oddly, if everyone has questions of this magnatude, they should go to the meeting and ask the people who can legitmately answer.

Its not gonna belong to Nassau County after the Lighthouse Project......At least I don't think it will. Isn't Wang footing the bill for the whole project?
7th Woman - March 19, 2009 02:17 PM (GMT)
they are only LEASING the building and the land.
they will OWN the structures on the property.

what do you mean?
what has Cred?
it's a meeting. same meeting as you posted yesterday.
same people, same agenda. those of us who have a certain feeling about Wang ( I won't repeat the same crap over) still feel the same way Dee.
Just because Botta posted it doesn't mean Wang is losing big bucks, cares for the Isles more
than he does his own real estate holdings and future revenue etc etc.
:dontknow:
I'm happy that they resigned Jackman. This off ice battle for money using scare tactics is a load of poop. A NY area team will not be relocated to a small market but you guys/gals can keep on believing that. It will work out in the end. Even if Wangalamadingdong has to bite the bullet and go to plan B, C, D, E and F like Garth did.
This team will not be moved.
;)
7th Woman - March 19, 2009 08:19 PM (GMT)
what I mean is...
are you going to go fight with him in comments the same way you fight with me?
;)
stevedepot - March 19, 2009 08:28 PM (GMT)
fight? I get it now.
Dee, I disagree with you here and not fighting with you or trying to.
I try not to post too much on Botta's site.
Too many pom pom wavers there. The team could sell a damn bridge to many fans.
You'd think everyone is a trained seal.
Also, the trolling from Ranger fans takes away from any good debate.
I usually just read Botta's blog and skim over some comments.
Besides, I think everyone would rather "fight" with you.
:P
hang in there, represent. Us Archie Bunkers of the world are actually harmless.

:cheer:
i want the damn project to go through because I've seen Columbus and I've seen St. Paul.
With luck, I'll get to see Phoenix and a few others that have renovated little cities surrounding beautiful NHL arenas.
A renovated coliseum don't mean jack without the rest of it.
Just renovating the building surrounded by nothing but a freakin' parking lot doesn't make it a contender with the rest of the league.
The restaurants, the walkways, the skating rink along with an arena is what I came home from that World Cup in 2004 hoping for.
They can't build it in Manhattan.
They didn't build that in freakin' Newark.
But they can build it in Uniondale.
:ok:

No more tailgating.
parking garages. There'll be $9 hotdogs and $14 Bratwursts inside.
But don't worry, you'll get free napkins with Islanders logos. A wider concourse, more bathrooms,
flat panels everywhere a full NHL experience off the ice.

No. That isn't automatic. He only gets naming rights if it is specifically stated in the deal with NC. As of now since he and NC don't have anything official signed since they are waiting on TOH, nothing has been decided.
He COULD get it IF the county decides to make that part of the deal. I doubt they will.
Though after seeing all your posts, I'm sure Wang will get the naming rights and sell them so it will be named the COMPUTER ASSOCIATES COLISEUM for the next 15 years, just to tweak you. ;)

WANG, RECHLER, SUOZZI CONFIRMED. MURRAY?Sounds like this should be an interesting night. And what's wrong Kate Murray? IMO, she's really not winning many people over by no-showing events like this one and the other meeting when she was supposedly on vacation.
