Title: BD, where'd you go?
Isles5 - March 3, 2009 12:59 PM (GMT)
Whatever happened to BD Gallof's blog on hockeybuzz? It was the only good reason to check out Eklund's site.

I think he took a voluntary leave of absence due to some anonymous blogging on another website that got out of hand or something. I read about it on HFboards. I'll try to find the link for you.
ronski631 - March 3, 2009 03:33 PM (GMT)
BD is out for the season with an undisclosed blogging injury :dontknow:

STATEMENT:
Before the rumors get out of hand, I asked Ek to take the rest of the season off. Yes, I stirred up a hornet's nest with some blogging antics elsewhere...but the choice to take the season off is my own. I'm working on another project, have a first child due at the end of Feb, and am newly promoted at work. So, before the NHL gets their panties in a knot, I am making it easier for everyone, especially myself.
I appreciate the support.

All the best.
ps: I am recommending a replacement myself. So Isles fans be assured that you will get someone good |

Just cause I'm a gossip hound, where did he create such a stir?
Isles5 - March 3, 2009 09:19 PM (GMT)
Thanks Kaspar. Anyone know what type of "hornets nest" he stirred up?
Ziggy16 - March 3, 2009 09:26 PM (GMT)
something along the lines of bob mckenzie being a drunk...
7th Woman - March 3, 2009 09:30 PM (GMT)
check Mirtle's blog. You'll find the problem.

Thanks...I had been wondering where he went.
IslandersWin86 - March 3, 2009 11:52 PM (GMT)
Hahaha, what a meathead. He totally left himself out to dry. Why use your real email address?
7th Woman - March 4, 2009 02:23 AM (GMT)
it doesn't matter. You can be found by your IP address pretty easy.
IslandersWin86 - March 4, 2009 02:34 AM (GMT)
There's ways around that too. Not too difficult, but I wouldn't take the time to do it.

Nuff respect dude....please come around NYIC more often. Ur blog, at times, has been nothing short of pure hilarity

Thanks for the insight. I'll make room for you on the front page. And like sybo said, stop by more often.

BD is alive!!
:P
Welcome aboard. Seriously.
Hey, I just read a great piece on there by a guest writer Tony Stabile doing a mock draft.
Great read. Refreshing to read compared to what's out there.
Gooch - June 7, 2009 08:49 PM (GMT)
Thanks.
Yeah, we are running with a few now. But of course, it's offseason, so it's hard to get everyone to hit it regularly. Jon Jordan ha a mock draft waiting to go, we've just been having Lighthouse stuff come up more often lately. hopefully things will quiet down and get civil for the long haul now that they shook hands. Though myself, and others like Dee, just don't buy it wholesale.
It's like a tiger promising to go vegetarian. Eventually that carnivore will come out again.
Jut thought my post on thing in hindsight would provide a bit of clarity.
Actually, this place seems pretty swell. Anyplace that has a long time membership and close-knit community is a good thing. I, myself, cut my teeth on HFboards since 2002. Both here and there seem to have no powertrip issues. Always good.
So far going "solo" has been good. Once I left Eklund, a lot of people have asked to join me. And they ain't just from NY or Isles bloggers. I opened uo RangersIndependent.com, which my brother and several NYR bloggers run on. We'll be doing a lot of Islanders/Rangers Rivalry stuff down the line.
Devils might be next.
I didn't quite expect the "blog-network" thing to really go so fast. So, should be a fun ride.
Thank again and I'll be around.
Cheers!

If anyone hasn't read BD's latest entry, I urge you to.
It's a draft primer and damn good one.
I'd like to submit this quote from his ranking on Matt Duchene.
| QUOTE |
Weaknesses: There are a few, and this is why he has dropped to #5.
Sure, he's a great prospect. But he also has not been THE GUY. The target. The one with the name on his back that players need to bring down. Due to that, he's thrived and been able to capitalize while teams have had to worry about Evgeny Grachev and Cody Hodgson. |
Scouts have mentioned this for the last few months but NOT in such a direct way as BD did.
By the way, BD ranks Duchene 5th, while he has Cowen tied for 2nd with Hedman (which makes sense had Cowen not got injured this year).
Great read.
:WORSHIP:
For all the toilet bowl worthy blogs out there it's nice to read people who know hockey.
stevedepot - August 17, 2009 02:22 PM (GMT)
yet another great entry from BD Gallof.

A BLOGGING COMMENTARY: The Dark Side?
Every-so-often, I am reminded of the darker side of these efforts. That somewhere between being a fan, being a writer, blogging about the goings-on, and such...there are fair reminders that there are business and promotional mechanics at work. The NHL is a business. These hockey teams are a business.
They are not there for your cheers and jeers primarily. Sure that might keep them going, but they are there for the fundamental reason to -
make money.
We who love this sports so much that we divvy precious time from our complex, busy and sometimes scattered lives to blog about it are sometimes forgetful to this frozen, hard, almost concrete-hard reality.
There is one thing about the advent of sports opinion in blogosphere and even messageboards that I have been concerned about. That is the emergence of the VIP fan. The fan who uses the blogs and social media to create more social status instead of write something informative, of value, or just opinion. Instead, it is a muddied river of emotional discourse all bent for the heavenly glow of being closer to a team. Or perhaps escapism from dull lives? Who is to say.
Either way, the VIP fan route is a disturbing trend that the teams, PR flacks, and other business avenues seem to be pushing for. Even encouraging these suck-ups.
Both sides, by doing-so, blurs and denigrates the strong lines drawn by those working hard on their craft...making great strides.
For if it is the teams and their media groups who think we bloggers or messageboards are merely a good press route, they have misconstrued the entire movement and denigrated it. They clearly attempt, ham-handedly, to use us.
It is in this USE, that they then destroy the partnership.
Bloggers and educated fans are not digits to some sales/promotion arm to be pulled like a marionette’s. Nor controlled. Nor should those bloggers and fans allow themselves to be used so.
Blogs, whether you like one or another, are providers of ideas, insight, and information that is meeting the needs of an interested base which is not getting their fair share from their local media, teams and national news. In partnership, we are all in it together. But once you start trying to manipulate, control the message or play games, it destroys credibility of what many of us are working so hard for.
Perhaps these lines I speak of are the spirit of journalistic tradition that has become so hamstrung these days in many press capacities besides just sports. But, somewhere, there has to be accountability, commitment, and responsibility. Hell, I even learned the hard way about that.
At least, that is my take. Call it ego. Call it silly. Hell, call it what you want, but I just think there are deeper notions than just kissing ass in bloggerville NHL.

An excellent article. Absolutely fueled by the team with the Blog box and 'official message boards'.

If it was, it would never be this board.
I hope everyone has had a chance to check out www.HockeyIndependent.com
I really would like feedback on it from Isles fans. Isles part is not fully rolling just yet. Couple of bloggers need to get going. But it's also important for me to do a NHL-wide site right or not at all. So please drop me a line bd@hockeyindependent.com
